As shadows lengthen and darkness falls across Peldrin, everyone has a score to settle.
Headstrong and impatient, the young, exiled lord, Revan Teutevar, has his heart set on returning to Athelon. Between him and his ruined homeland, however, lies Vhaleons: a city ruled by corruption and greed. Chasing the threads of a dangerous conspiracy, Revan and his friends soon find themselves entrapped in a game of power and deceit. One false move and the lives of the three drifters are forfeit.
Captain Nikoma is a young woman desperate to prove her worth in a man’s world. She’s a loner, an outsider even amongst her fellow Simarru riders no matter how well she swings a sword. But war with the Imperium League is at hand, and with it, the chance to step out of her father’s shadow…if she can stay alive long enough to change her stars.
With war looming, the west has forgotten about Arund. Even so, the one-time Hero of the Republic and would-be high king hasn't been idle. East of the Heimwall, he’s rebuilding his capital and amassing a motley horde to stake his claim in the growing chaos. If he can hold them all together — fierce Jotun, barbaric Periwaneth and treacherous Emorans — the White Knight could very well make good on his vow to rule all of Peldrin.

This massive tome of a book is one of the best epic sagas I have ever read, it is intricate and full of sword and sorcery battle scenes, heroic and traitorous characters, a great story line and massive world building. I would rank this series next to The Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan and am really into it and since this book ended on a cliffhanger I am now dying to continue reading the story of Revan the exiled heir of Athel, the last in the Teutevar line. He and his two companions Shamus the leprechaun and Brinhold the skard just cannot keep themselves out of trouble whether in the city or in the wilds. Revan is hell bent on making his way to Athel to his home, from which he had been exiled since he was just a babe. During their travels they encounter a lot of danger and are often on the brink of being killed but they somehow manage to always escape almost intact. On another front the Imperial League is still waging war with everyone else whilst Arund, the White Knight is taking his followers through the Withered Redlands. Lady Guinevere married King Garrid and when he went off to battle he left her in charge of the Simarron but there are traitors in their midst who take the first opportunity to take power into their hands. Sylas is a greedy opportunist with quite a few surprises to his name and he will stop at nothing to exploit an opportunity such as Athel. I just wish to see Revan get a grip, forget his conceit and his arrogance and become the man he is meant to be if he ever is to be found worthy of re-building the ruins of Athel before others steal what is rightfully his. The old man who keeps on turning up everywhere to help Revan and his friends is still a mystery even though we now know he was the Councillor to Matthew Teutevar. The scope of this saga is immense and I just don't know how the author manages to keep all the many thread lines of the plot going without getting entangled. This saga is just massive and I need the following book in my hands now! I highly recommend this saga to all fans of high epic fantasy.
