Remember Braita? She wasn’t the only human sent to live on an alien planet. Madeline has been chosen to go to the planet Kireg and she thought the only thing she had to fear was their ability to read and control minds. Feisty, brilliant and trained to be a scientist, she is far more curious than most. You know what they say, “Curiosity killed the cat…” – or in Madeline’s case – puts her on the radar of one very angry and foreboding rebel leader. Hey, who knew he was reading her every thought and he knew exactly what she thought of him? Thought I wasn’t going to get to the line –“ …and satisfaction brought it back?” Trust me, in a case of oil-meet-water or “she thinks, he listens in,” these two discover that everything they may dislike about each other is exactly what creates a chemical explosion of lustful proportions!

Geo is a warrior, a rebel leader, trying to find peace for his world, by overthrowing the current regime. He never expected what he got with Madeline, or that she would become more than a thorn in his muscular side. What is happening between these two? Is it the stress of the moment? Fate’s idea of a practical joke? Grab your spacesuits, a fan and some smelling salts because Scarlett Dawn has taken control once again with Moon Mark and trust me, this one is filled with hot aliens, Ms. Dawn’s signature snark and attitude, as well those priceless gems of humor! All I can say is “Beam me up, Scarlett, fly me to the moon and beyond!!”

Quick, intense and filled with high octane writing, I loved it!

Every story this author writes I enjoy. Her books always have decent plots, sexual tension, banter, amusing dialogue, hot sex, action and side characters that could easily have their own books.

When we met Madeline in Cold Mark, I was sure she wouldn't be as likeable as Braita, but I needn't have worried; I enjoyed this book just as much as the first and it was all wrapped up in one instalment rather than having to wait weeks for the whole package.

Plus this had NO drama from other women or men what so ever and I was bloody thankful for that.

I loved it.

Disappointing after the first book in this series.
In this book there was no romance. None. There was sex and it was mildly steamy towards the end. The heroine is lied to and mistreated.
She is an absolute DOORMAT.
The one person who should be on her side is pretty ambivalent about her presence. Hero just wants to get laid if he doesn't have to work for it.
He wants her to apologize for not wanting to live forever-after with him once she initially realizes they are mates.
They don't even have good flirty conversations.
Not Recommended.

Once again Dawn sweeps us away to the worlds of Joyal, Kireg and Mian with Moon Mark, a novella length standalone that coincides with the Mark series.

Madeline is a young human scientist/inventor that is sent off to live on the planet Kireg. A planet inhabited by beings with superior strength and the ability to read and control minds. Madeline is fearful but inquisitive, making her stand out from the other humans taken to Kireg.

Madeline quickly discovers that there was more to fear than just the Kireg’s ability for mind control. Kireg is currently in the midst of a civil war and she is caught smack dab in the middle…on the rebel side.

Madeline’s wit and spunk will only get her so far, but becoming someone’s mate was never part of the plan. Don’t forget to strap yourself in for this ride, it is about to get bumpy. Madeline’s and Geo’s relationship is all but pushed upon them and neither is going down without a fight.

Holy hotness alien man, Dawn brings the heat in this world hopping novella and as always she left us wanting more. I am seriously hoping we are going to get a Braita/Madeline reunion...with their guys this time.

I received this copy of Moon Mark from Scarlett Dawn in exchange for a honest review.

If you know me then you know I don't like novellas and I was so disappointed when Ms. Dawn announced that Moon Mark wouldn't be a full length novel.

So. Damn. Disappointed.

Also if you know me then you know even though it aggravates me that Dawn writes so many novellas, I still adore her writing. Her Forever Evermore series will always be a favorite. So I've been dying for another full length novel from her and I thought Moon Mark would be it.... obviously it wasn't.

So it's also not a surprise that my biggest complaint with the story was it just wasn't long enough. Too many things were rushed or just skipped and there just simply wasn't enough story for my liking.

BUT.

I did like the story! I really did. This is rare for me but this is probably one of the best novellas I've read. Even though whole scenes were missing and certain ones cut short, I still by the end enjoyed this short but sweet ride!

It just stings that this novel had the potential to be totally badass if it was slowed down and more scenes added. I really would've liked war scenes or battle scenes and more of a slow build up with the h and H. There was so much emphasis on the civil war and then the h leaves the planet and a few pages later she returns to the planet and the war is pretty much over.

Kind of a let down.

But whatever. For a novella this was a nice little story.
If you like short scifi romance stories, then I highly recommend!

**FULL REVIEW**

"I believe your life is your own. And how you decide to handle life's gifts is all up to you."

In this story we finally meet Madeline. She had a brief meeting with Briata in the Cold Mark series, but this book begins her story.

And it's fascinating!

Dawn never fails to suck me into her words. Her characters have depth and her storylines are complex, but in the most amazing ways. There are multiple layers to each installment, plenty of action (both kinds), and still enough for the hopeless romantic to swoon over. Finding a book that covers all of that criteria, especially one in the Sci-Fi/Urban Fantasy genre, is difficult. So, if you're looking for a ride unlike any other, check this book (and the entire Mark series) out.

"Keep talking like that, and I'll steal the stars for you."

This book had a lot of potential. I think my main complaint would be the length. I enjoyed the characters and the action packed story, but both would have benefited from some more development and depth. I'll still check out more of this writers work.

Copy received from author for an honest review

I am not going to lie, it did take me a little bit to get into Moon Mark - but that could just have been my mood at the time.

But once I got started, I needed to know where Madeline's story would go.

It has been a while since I have been in the world of the Joyal, Kireg and Mian.

Madeline is a feisty woman, who really is a thorn in the side of those around her. And I love her for it.

Geo is the rebellion leader of the Kireg, and there is a fine line between love and hate for these two. But when they are thrown together, sparks fly.

Moon Mark is full of adventure, drama and a whole lot of hot.

I LOVED that we got a little bit of Braita again too.

Can't wait to see what comes next.

I received an eARC of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of this review.

Moon Mark
by Scarlett Dawn is a standalone in the Mark series and possibly my favorite of the two novellas. Madeline Faire is training as a scientist when the tidal wave hits Joyal, wiping out a good portion of their population. She is then pulled from Joyal in a lottery and given to the Kireg who are in the middle of a civil war. Out of her element, Madeline must find a way to keep herself and the other humans alive.

Madeline is a great character! She is smart and her intellect and natural curiosity get her into all kinds of trouble with the mind-reading Kiregs. Her curiosity rules her thoughts and well these thoughts aren’t always pleasant to the eavesdropping mind-readers. Like Braita, she’s innocent and naive when it comes to relations but her curiosity in how relations work endear her to others.

Geo, the Kireg rebellion leader, is a tough one to like in the beginning, but he quickly grew on me. He is powerful, calculated, and intimidating, yet he is gentle and his cause is good. He’s fighting the Dynasty for the freedom of all people on Kireg. How could you not like that?!

The novella centers around Madeline and Geo, their relationship, and the dangers of the rebellion. I found myself intrigued by the political aspects and just as curious about the Kireg as Madeline is. I loved the love/hate relationship between Geo and Madeline and how they each sacrifice for the other. And the world-building….PERFECT! I was fully immersed in the story, unable to tear myself away.

Overall, I think Moon Mark may be my favorite Scarlett Dawn book! It was steamy, the world was amazing, and the plot intriguing. If you enjoy science fiction with a little dystopia and a lot of romance, I highly suggest you pick up a copy. While this is the second novella in the series, it can still be enjoyed as a standalone, though I do recommend reading Cold Mark as well.

Great story with a few typos

I've eagerly awaited this book and was happy that it is a complete story not a serial.
There are low points and high points with a satisfying romance. There are more sex scenes in this book than the first.
I found a few typos that were wrong words used (are for our) and an odd sentence that uses a name for someone not in the story--King Jordan.

EEKKK!! Love this book! I was hooked from the start up to the last! Moon Mark is Madeline and Geo's story. Geo is an alien, a rebellion leader, who will meet his match in Madeline. LOL. Anyway, when Madeline was chosen things get interesting. What I love about this book is that it's full of surprises and I was easily hooked on the story. The characters are also good, love them. I also love the surprises the story entails! Ms. Scarlett nailed nailed it!

Totally 5 Stars

Love the creativity of the author and her writing. Her book had humor, action, adventure, passion, and steamy love scenes with awesome characters. I love reading a book that brings the characters from her previous book. Highly recommended and keep them coming.

First book was good, but this was just a screw fest

In the first book at least the main character stood up for herself, kicked butt, and there was somewhat of a plot. The second book was nothing like that. The main character just got captured or ran away/stayed out of the action nearly the whole book. Besides for a little bit of hacking (which we saw her do in the first book) and making bombs (which we didn't even see her do, just skipped to when she finished them), there was nothing else to show her big brains that the author went on about in the beginning. The romance wasn't even great, just another instant mates trope without real bonding or getting to know one another. Not to mention the coerced conscent/basically a rape scene. Slight spoiler: evil scientists give them the option to have sex or die. They both push the "consent" button but that was not an enthusiastic yes on either of their parts so I consider it a conscent violation.

Book 2 of this Sci-fi series

So in book 1 of the Coldmark series we were introduced to Braita and Jax. After a natural disaster forces their world (the people of Joyal) to fulfill a contract with their neighbors the Mianese and the Kerig for help, Braita meets Madeline at the beginning of the "culling" where Madeline is sent to Kerig.

This book 2 (Moon Mark) is the story about Madeline as meets her destined mate in the form of Georan (Geo), the Kerig rebel leader, as she finds herself in deeper hot water than when she left her home world.

Even though this was more a novella compared to multiple books in Cold Mark, Moon Mark's characters are immediately endearing and thrusted into action from the start. This was one of my favorite books in the series.

I really loved this book. I couldn't wait to read about Madaline and Geo when they both made an appearance in Cold Mark. If you haven't read Cold Mark I recommend reading it first but it isn't a must, but it will definitely give you more of the background information. The story didn't lag at any point and definitely offers it all from Sci-fi, suspense and a steamy romance that will leave you wanting the next book in the series. I hope to possibly see more of Madaline and Geo in the future.

Madeline is sent to a planet of mind reading aliens and ends up imprisoned wth the rebel leader. They are forced to have sex for some reason and they "bond". They escape the rebellion continues and they start to like each other.

This wasn't terrible but it just seemed like it was missing chapters. It moved too quickly and seemed to jump around. For instance, Geo went from broody and intimidating to sweet and flirty in what seems like minutes. It just didn't flow well.

Scarlett Dawn is one of my top favorite authors.... but I think this is quite possibly the worst book I’ve read from her. I understand this was a novella but my goodness... there was so much missing from this story. There was so much jumping around between scenes, I feel like there were no actual details.

Moon Mark was another interesting book in the "Mark" series. Rather than a continuation of book 1, Moon Mark was a story with a different set of characters which ran concurrently to the first book, overlapping at times. I didn't find this book as fast paced, but I liked the dynamics between the two main protagonists. A fun read.

Love this author and whilst I liked this book (ie storyline) I feel it’s not as well written as some of her others. Grammatical errors throughout and the story jumped so you often lost track of what was happening until you picked up the thread again. Having said that I did enjoy the story.

Awesome book. Just like the others by Scarlett.

My only problem with this book is that it seemed so rushed... And like it was missing bits :(

The main characters are pretty amazing... Strong, intelligent women and strong men *sigh*

I liked this book better that the first, because this one, unlike the first, included hot sexy times. The reason that I did not give it 5 stars was because there was no love but rather lust and affection between the hero and the heroine. I need to feel like the characters really love each other and that did not happen here. They did not even exchange "l love yous."

Started lazy but ended a little better... Kinda

I really enjoyed Cold Mark. I found it was fluidly written and well developed... Which is why I am so disappointed with Moon Mark.

First, positives. I liked Madeline, for the most part. She was pretty witty and comical. I liked the plot idea. Ms. Dawn did a good job of giving each character a different personality.

Okay, now negatives. I felt like chapters were missing between each chapter. The storyline was rushed and choppy. I felt like Ms. Dawn just wasn't sure how to describe things so she skipped over it... So chunks of the story were missing and went unexplained. For example, (SPOILER ALERT... Sorta) how long was Madeline out between her capture and regaining consciousness/awareness (this was referenced but no time actually given)? What happened when Madeline was mind controlled? What happened to Corza when everyone was captured? And why the heck would the Dynasty want Geo and Madeline to have sex? What was the point of those experiments? Why not kill or torture the rebellion leader and get information to put an end to the rebellion? How was everyone else saved and what happened? How and when did Geo kill the scientists? Who really was the enemy besides the Dynasty? How the heck did she survive on the other planet? How did she steal the car without the Kreig knowing? I'd also like to know a bit more about the rebellion. Who are the hunters? Why did Madeline want to sit in on the conference... Like, what was her purpose and did she have any valid input? She did, after all, bring stuff with her and it seemed like she was ready to present something. And what the heck happened during that conference? These are just a few of the many holes in the story.

I also felt like the reason Madeline left the planet and wanted to return was underdeveloped. The world building was not as strong as in Cold Mark... It was actually pretty weak. Ms. Dawn pretty much relied on Cold Mark in terms of world building, which did not really work especially since this was a different planet. The enemy Dynasty was just too conceptual. There was no mention of who the king was (leader of Dynasty presumably).

Additionally, the relationship between Geo and Madeline just felt fake and forced... Or at least it did through the majority of the story. Like, when Madeline ran away, she decided to return for Geo but you have no idea how she arrived to that decision. Also, Geo apparently hated to be away from Madeline but like... Why? He has no feelings for her. And he was just angry that after finding out they were supposed to be mates, Madeline ran away. But at that point, no feelings were developed between the two. The growth of their feelings just did not come across until maybe the last few chapters, but even then, it was weak. It was hard to feel any connection with the characters since you really don't get a chance to form any bond with the characters. And, I felt like we really were missing out on Madeline's ability. Lastly, I feel like Geo's character needed better character development. Maybe even some of the supporting characters. You don't really get to "experience" her ability.

I was really excited about this book so this was a huge disappointment and the cost way too high for such underdeveloped and not well thought out work. I honestly feel like Ms. Dawn just wanted to get something out and forced the writing rather than let the story flow. And I know Ms. Dawn can write so much better since she did it in the first book, Cold Mark. I really would love for an update in this book to really flush out this story. Maybe even get a Geo perspective between many of the chapters to help fill in the holes. If that ever happens, I would gladly re-review.

Firstly I would like to give a HUGE thanks to the lovely Scarlett Dawn for kindly providing me with a copy of Moon Mark to read and review.

Once again Dawn sweeps us away to the worlds of Joyal and Kireg with Moon Mark, a novella standalone that coincides within the Mark series.

Madeline Faire is training as a scientist when the tidal wave hits Joyal, wiping out a good portion of their population. She is then pulled from Joyal in a lottery and given to the Kireg who are in the middle of a civil war. A planet inhabited by beings with superior strength and the ability to read and control minds. Madeline is fearful but inquisitive, making her stand out from the other humans taken to Kireg.

Madeline’s wit and spunk will only get her so far, but becoming someone’s mate was never part of the plan. Like Braita, she’s innocent and naive when it comes to relationships but her curiosity in how relationships work endear her to others.

Geo, the Kireg rebellion leader, up and coming King, is a tough one to like in the beginning. He is powerful, calculated, and intimidating, yet he is gentle. He’s fighting the Dynasty for the freedom of all people on Kireg. How could you not like that?!

"I attempted to calm my hatred of him, pressing my thoughts to turn logical. To look at the Kireg's position in life the authority he held with a firm hand. This man was a powerful individual every Kireg and Human would need on their side if we ever got out of here. He had the experience in battle and warfare. This Kireg knew how to win a war. He knew how to exact revenge without his emotions getting in the way. And the civil war would continue if we escaped this hell hole. My jaw clenched, and my eyes stung with unshed tears. The decision was eay. While I wanted to save my own life...this bastard was the person I was actually saving. A man I hated with every fiber of my being. And I was going to save him. Save Him" ~ Madeline

Dawns' characters have depth and her storylines are complex, but in the most incredible way.

There is several layers to each installment, and certainly plenty of action.

Moon Mark is full of adventure, drama and a whole lot of hot.

*** Gifted in exchange for my honest review ***

I enjoyed this book, the story was interesting but it being a novella means that there is just not enough time/ word count for the storyline to be full enough to give the story Arc justice.

This is Book 2 but it is sold as a standalone so as such you should be given enough information to get the reader involved.

There are 3 worlds Joyal which is where the descendants of Earth live, Kireg where the white haired skinned inhabitants can mind read/ manipulate and Mian - not sure what they did other than attack Joyal at some point of the story.

Madeline the main character is sent off as a tribute to the feared Kireg, but when she arrives she finds a Civil war and although at first she is 'rescued by the rebels' they are then captured by the Dynasty, the current rulers... experimented on and paired with the leader Geo of the rebels has some unexpected revelations.

The first part up to chapter 10 had me turning the pages gripped into what Madaline would do to survive, she was a gutsy character that managed to deal with a lot considering Joyal do not touch/embrace or have sex anymore ( Yeah shudder lol) but then at chapter 10 it just Skipped into the future... Was I confused - yes, I went back a few pages and nope I didn't miss anything, we just skip to where she is escaping Kireg...

She is helped by Braita what I am assuming is the character from book 1 by the looks of some of the reviews I have read.

This is where writing a novella can sometimes be a hindrance to a story, if this book had a little more background information it would have made more sense for me, and would have more than likely gotten a higher score.
But in the end, I did enjoy the read, but personally I think you would be better reading book 1 in this Mark Series.

I will have to go check out book 1 as I did enjoy this world, the characters and the fast paced action.
