Cora Leighton is a woman on the run. Fleeing a bad relationship and an ex who’s blatantly stalking her, Cora enters the shifter state of Cascadia with one thing on her mind: freedom. Love is the last thing she’s looking for, no matter how sexy the men of Cascadia turn out to be.
Rugged, sexy bear shifters Ash and Hunter are mates. Their peaceful lives in Granite Valley are perfect, except for one thing: they need a woman to complete their triad.
When Ash looks up from his seat in his police cruiser to see Cora speeding by, he has no idea that he’s about to find just the right woman. A speeding ticket turns into a hell of a lot more, and fast. Ash can’t explain the pull he feels toward the feisty, curvy reporter, but Hunter feels it too.
When Cora’s deranged stalker shows up and sets out to kill their only chance at true happiness, Ash and Hunter will do whatever it takes to protect her.
But can their brute bear strength take on the cunning of a deranged man who’s lost his grip on reality?
A Bear's Protection is a steamy romance, complete with two sexy men in love, a threesome, and more heat than a bonfire in August.
Cora is having no luck getting rid of a stalker using legal methods so she leaves town and gets a job in a shifter state. Immediately after arriving, she meets Sheriff’s Deputy Ash and his Mate Hunter, who owns a veterinary clinic. The two Bear shifters have been waiting for a woman to form their mating triad. As soon as they meet Cora they know she is the one, but they know she is running from something. The story is quite sexy and a nice quick read. There is MM and MFM action, so if you don’t like that, you’ve been warned.
Spoiler Ahead This was a short quick read that was good. Cora Leighton is a woman on the run. Fleeing a bad relationship and an ex who’s blatantly stalking her so she moves across the country to a shifter state where shifter's have two mates. Ash is sitting in his police cruiser when a speeding car goes by he never thought that he would meet his other mate and when he and his mate Hunter sees her in a pizza place he feels the same way. Ash and his mate Hunter are hot sexy were-bears and meeting their third has them both in a lust induced frenzy and they have hot male on male sex Hunter's SUV in the parking lot of the pizza place. When someone throws a rock through her car window Cora calls Ash for help when Hunter comes along he ask her out on a date. Cora feels free from looking over her shoulder she has been stalked for six months and she feels safe with the sexy shifter's. This was a good book this was my first time reading this author's work and not my last. This was the first book in a new series to me the book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series
I liked the idea of this book, but Ash, Cora and Hunter’s relationship wasn’t developed enough.
Cora goes to a new town, she has two short interactions with Ash and one with Hunter before their date. Then things get very rushed with the stalker and then it’s the epilogue which is Cora moving in with Ash and Hunter. I wanted to see more scenes where Ash, Cora and Hunter get to know each other and spend some time together.
There were some other characters that were mentioned but they never become anything more than a name.
This book was fine, but it was very rushed and kind of dramatic.
Quickshot Review -Freebie start to series -Hot sex scenes -interesting setup to Cascadia, one of three shifter states and the uneasiness between full humans and shifters. -Well written -wished for more time spent developing the romance, but did I mention hot? Still hot, so I’ll keep reading
Hunter, Ash and Cora find that there is no fighting animal magnetism and attraction. It’s the Dateline/Nightmare scenario, Cora cannot believe that she the obsessive desire of man she went on two poor dates with. Nevertheless Neill’s fixation on her has lead her to packing up and heading cross country to escape him. She heard stories about Shifter Country and their population, but she still wasn’t prepared for reality of coming face to face to face with the Tall, Dark, Handsome and Alpha men that claim these lands. Ash and Hunter have been patiently waiting for their mate to come and make their duo into the triad they crave. When Cora shows up and sparks fly, they know they cannot let this woman get away. Especially once they learn that she not only is everything they have been looking for, but needs their help. Classic Noir with a feisty animal twist, you won’t be disappointed with your trip into the wild.
I voluntarily read an advance reader copy of this book
A quick and spicy read, though a little light on the details.
So Ash and Hunters are mates, bear shifter mates, and they are looking for their third to complete their happy little triad. Cora fits the bill and once they all meet, sparks fly.
Cora is running from an obsessed stalker who won’t quit. Of course Ash and Hunter protect her and they all live happily ever after.
I will say this, I am so happy this author didn’t shy away from writing an intimate scene between Ash and Hunter. Because that was absolute fire. But I was disappointed that we didn’t get any details about Ash and Hunter’s life pre-Cora. They got together at 15. So did they pick up random ladies to bring home, had they ever been with ladies at all? Would have been a nice detail to know.
Overall, an okay read that was definitely spicy but needed a dash of something extra to round it out.
This is a short shifted read with Bears and Humans? Amazing read with a few twist and turns along the way. Cora is moving across the country to get away from a stalker when she meets Ash and Hunter bear shifted mates and as things heat up for them there is someone out to put a stop to it. Will Ash and Hunter be able to protect Cora or will they be to late? This book pulls you in and don't let go till the end. Has a lotof feels and a few twist that will keep reading. Can't wait to read the next one.
Don’t ask me how I got here. Don’t ask me why I did it. Don’t ask me my thoughts. All I have to say is that I wish the drama was that they are a throuple and less about a stalker dude
So here we have Cora who is literally trying to outrun the crazy. As in her ex, though they only went on a couple of dates and never even kissed. No, I'm not kidding. Two dates, no lip locking, and he's all about her being the one and he'll make her see that he's the one for her. See, told you, he's screwy. Cora leaves her sister and her life behind and travels to the state of Cascadia, the shifter state. She's accepted a job, with some fudged job experience information, and is feeling the weight of uncertainty and fear leave her a little more with each mile she gets farther away. Phew.
Well, that is until those flashing lights pop on and Cora realizes she's getting pulled over. It seems Ash caught her speeding and once he starts talking to her, he realizes two things. She's obviously scared and his bear is very intrigued. After letting her go with only a warning, wow, was she lucky, Ash later meets up with his mate, Hunter, a veterinarian. Ash is all set to tell Hunter about the woman he met and his suspicions about what she'll be to them, when the lady herself walks into the same establishment. I'm mentally picturing fate here and it's thinking "I refuse to let you men mess this up. I'm going to make sure you both notice her and do something about it." LOL
The chemistry flying around the three is so strong it's a wonder the other patrons aren't walking into it. Once she leaves, Ash and Hunter are flustered in more ways than one and need to *ahem* blow off some steam. *wink*
So Hudson, because Ash moves a little slow to his way of thinking, asks Cora out, she says yes, and away we go. Woohoo! The date is going great, flirting is happening, the attraction is strengthening, life tidbits (I said life tidbits, not those kind of bits you dirty bird. LOL Yeah okay, that could possibly happen later. Ooh la la.) are being given, and dances are being shared. Let's continue this date in a more private setting. *bow chick a wow wow* So close. Jerk face stalker decides to send a little message to Cora, through an innocent errand boy, that bluntly lets Ash, Hunter, and Cora know he's there, he saw their show, and he's not happy about Cora leaving without telling him. You know, because every woman that's running away from a stalker leaves a forwarding address. Geez, what a doofus.
Everyone keep calm. Let's think rationally and...yeah, too late. Ash has shifted and gone sniffing around for you know who. Unfortunately for them, he's unable to find him and now Ash and Hunter activate Operation Keep Cora Safe. This plan involves Cora staying with them and they'll keep her safe. Yeah, that's pretty much the plan. LOL Well yeah, there's some sexy times to be had during the plan's implementation and fun is had by all three. *eye waggle*
But Neil is a little more clever than they gave him credit for and he's able to get Cora away from the guys and decides there's only one way for them to be together like they should be. He wants to Thelma and Louise it. No, not the part involving Brad Pitt. Goofball. The whole cliff scene. Yeah, that'll leave a mark. LOL
Can Ash and Hunter track down Cora in time to save her from Neil and his plan? Will Ash, Hunter, and Cora have a chance to fully complete their triad and start their HEA? What about the sister and life that Cora left behind? Read now and find out. I know once you start this series, you'll want to read all five of these books. I highly recommend that you follow that instinct and get to reading. LOL
**I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.**
Hot hunky bear shifters are all a girl could ask for.
What would you do if you had some crazy stalker dogging you and the police can’t or simply won’t do anything about it? Would you pack up and move across the country to live in shifter territory? Well, that’s exactly what journalist, Cora decides to do. She gives up her career and leaves the sister she loves for a life on the wild side sans her ex. But can you really call a two date wonder an ex? Neil might have more money than she could shake a stick at, but the dude was totally deranged. Fearing just how deranged he might be, sends Cora packing to a place she figures he won’t follow. Or will he? Always looking over your shoulder isn’t a way to live.
Running speed traps for unwary motorists crossing into shifter territory isn’t the most thrilling part of Ash’s job as a deputy sheriff. That is until Cora comes racing around the corner and into his life. This stalwart and just a bit above the boards bear has met the last in their triad and its pretty obvious to the protective bear that she’s running from trouble. He has no clue what that trouble is but he’s determined he’ll get to the bottom of it, just as soon as he’s off duty. Because you know you can’t mix business and pleasure. Whatever would the town folk think if he stepped outside the lines?
Stepping outside the lines is exactly what his mate Hunter is apt to do. Eternally the prankster and happy go lucky bad boy of the two, Hunter has his serious side when it comes to rescuing injured wildlife. When it comes to his mate, though, this is one seriously wicked boy with a penchant for skating the edges of propriety. Thinking they might never find the third to their triad, Hunter is a bit blown away when he gets a whiff of Cora. Hello, there mama! Propriety be damned. Hunter has no problem asking the pretty lady out on a date with the two of them.
If you haven’t figured it out yet these three are downright combustible together. If I have a complaint… it’s that there simply wasn’t enough. All that hotness and the story has to end. I suppose dealing with the deranged ex and claiming their mate does give a conclusion to the storyline. But darn. Good thing this is the start to a series. Ms. Noir has more triad goodness in store for us all. So if you like hot hunky bear shifters, a bit of suspense, and lovin’ shared equally then this series will probably do it for you. I’ll certainly be picking up the next in the series.
Cover is super hot. Story? Eh, kinda boiler plate. Definitely one that's been overplayed and over-done. Can think off the top of my head at least 2 other MMF titles with the almost the same formula (and this one wasn't first). If it were dramatized it would belong on the Hallmark Channel as one of their "Women in Peril" stories.
Hot and sexy x 2 what more could a girl ask for? Good story. The characters were interesting, funny, strong, sexy and over all well written. It had a nice steady flow to the writing. It's a good first book to a series. I liked it.
Cora Leighton walked into the café, dreading that she had to tell her older sister, Amelia, that she was moving to Cascadia. Cora’s ex-boyfriend Neil, relentlessly stalking her, had sent a threatening photo and yet the police did no real investigation; nor would the court increase the restraining order distance. So Cora took care of the problem herself – she arranged for a job in Cascadia on the West Coast, far enough away from here that he shouldn’t be able to find her.
Deputy Ash Spencer sat in his patrol car, just across the state line between California and Cascadia. He hated doing that, but Cascadia needed the money from the inevitable speeding tickets. The locals knew his hiding spot; so this was aimed at the out-of-towners who wouldn’t fight the ticket. A blue car flew past and he pulled her over. A woman jumped out and looked panicked. Ash’s bear roared and went into protective mode, looking for the threat. Ash was drawn to her and reacting as he never had before. He told her to return to her car. Once he showed his badge, she calmed and did as instructed. He was confused that she had seemed so terrified at first, and now she seemed relieved that she was just getting a ticket!
Hunter, Ash’s mate, was a vet at the Granite Valley Animal Hospital. He mostly treated wildlife for the Forest Service. He was washing up when Ash called and they agreed to meet for pizza. As Ash started to tell him about the woman he had met, the door opened and Hunter saw the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. His bear woke up immediately – OURS!
But when someone throws a rock through the front window of Cora’s parked car at her motel, she calls Ash for help. Hunter comes along with him and asks her out on a date with the two of them. For the first time. Cora feels safe knowing the sexy shifters will protect her. But Neil is not ready to let her go, and his stalker behavior is escalating. Will he be able to get to Cora and harm her? Will he kidnap her and escape capture from her protectors?
This was an exciting story to read on many levels. It taught the reader much about relationships and how important love and devotion are to all of us. It also pointed out the danger when a mental illness gets out of control and how far that person is willing to go when desperate. The story line is well-paced and the suspense keeps the reader’s full attention right through to the exciting conclusion!
This is Hunter , Ash and Cora's story . Cora is being stalked and decides to move to Cascadia a shifters state after getting a job at Granite Valley . She informs her sister and shows her a picture to explain why . While on the way she is stopped for speeding by Ash . Ash is sitting in his squad car behind a sign that that locals know is a speed trap area . When he gets his first look at Cora his bear goes crazy ! And he knows that she is in danger from someone . While running her info he remembers the last he felt this way . The time that Hunter and he was goofing off and his bear suddenly kissed Hunter . Cora sat in the car waiting for the officer to come back and remembered the panic she felt when she saw the police lights for the first time fearing it was Neil , her stalker . Ash decides to give her a warning instead of a ticket and tells her that giving her a ticket would be a terrible way to to welcome her to the state . Hunter is a vet for the Granite Valley Animal Clinic and was unable to save a wild coyote that was hit by a car . Ash his mate calls and they decide that after such a wicked day to stop and get pizza . Cora after getting to her new place also decides to pick up a pizza . When Hunter sees her HIS bear goes crazy saying OURS while Hunter fought to keep his bear under control . I loved the way that after both of them seeing her what happened out back !! Hunter asks her to go out with them after she called Ash over her windshield being broke by a rock . Ash got a bit upset about Hunter asking her out while he was on duty but needless to say intends on going ! Their first date is at a bonfire where she can meet over half of the town . After 2 beers Cora pulls the guys out to dance not knowing that poor Ash cannot dance well at all ! While dancing the music suddenly cuts off and a young boy brings a note to Cora , who up on seeing it knows that is is from her stalker Neil . This kind of lets the cat of the bag that she is in trouble . This book is so well written that you feel like you are there with them !! I strongly recommend this to EVERYONE !!!
Ash and Hunter are bear shifters and they are also mates. They have been looking for the female who will become their third and will complete their triad. Having three mates is not strange for bear shifters even if the humans who now know about them think it's strange. So a lot of shifters live in the town of Cascadia and other cities that humans know are shifter cities and they leave them alone for the most part.
Cora doesn't want to move away from her sister, her life and her job. But the guy stalking her won't leave her alone and the police will do nothing to help her. So she pulls up stakes, and hightails it out of town, moving far away, thinking that her stalker won't find her in this new town or at least won't follow her here.
But she's wrong.
Cora feels safe for the first time in months and after meeting Ash and Hunter and they make it pretty obvious they are interested in her, she falls for them really fast. But she fails to let them know that a stalker is after her, even after a window in her car is broken. She's hoping it's just a coincidence, it's not. Ash is a police officer so he investigates the crime but she still doesn't tell him it might be her stalker. It's not until the stalker makes himself known that she finally comes clean which I thought was kinda dumb of her. She should have told them or at least Ash since he's a cop so he would know it might be him.
When She finds herself in danger, both Ash and Hunter stop at nothing to make sure she's safe. I don't know if the stalker thought he could get away with doing what he did in a town with a bunch of shifters but he wasn't thinking clearly so maybe he just wasn't thinking at all. But it ended well and I really liked this book.
I was so excited to get an ARC of this book. A Bear's Protection has been re-released and I'm about 90% sure I've read it before. And I loved it!
I do love a menage story, especially when the action is going down between all parties. So reading Ash, Hunter and Cora's story was an absolute joy. Now, as this was a novella, there is an element of insta-love, something I usually hate, unless it's a paranormal romance, which this is, so yay!
Cora is a girl on the run from a crazy, clingy stalker of a guy, and moves to the shifter state of Cascadia, clear across the country to get away from this wackadoodle. And immediately upon entering the state gets pulled over for speeding by the hunky Ash. Ash is already mated to Hunter, our gorgeous vet, and his inner bear is instantly on alert seeing this stranger. Hunter and Ash's romance was well established, they've been together since high school and obviously love each other, but in this shifter world, mating bonds are completed with two men and a woman, so bringing Cora in was what they needed. And again, this was really well done. I didn't feel like anyone was left out, everyone had a role to play, which can sometimes be overlooked. But Dakota West did an amazing job with this.
Overall this was a really short and sweet (not really, it was kinda dirty, but my point stands) read, I would definitely read it again and I can't wait until the next book!
A Bear’s Protection is the first book in the Shifter Country Bears series. Cora is on the run from her stalker and decides to seek sanctuary within Cascadia, a state primarily populated with shifters. Not even ten minutes in the state, and she’s pulled over by Ash, a police officer, and even while Cora is nervous, she’s never felt safer. As mysterious things happen around her, Cora calls Ash, asking for help, and between Ash and Hunter, his mate, they’ll protect her, as well as desire so much more from her. She completes their triad! But when her stalker confronts Cora, can Ash and Hunter save her before it’s too late?
I loved reading this book so much! Ms. West has such a fun take on shifters and their romances and I love the world that she created, too! Even though difficult times have beaten down Cora, she had such a big and open heart, and I loved how well she completed Ash and Hunter. The men were such opposites, Ash being straight laced and a rule follower, while Hunter liked to push boundaries, but you could feel the love between them as you read through the book. They were also incredibly protective of those they love! Even though this was a shorter story, I still felt a ton of emotion from this book, between fear and longing, lust and love! The intimate scenes were steamy, their connection felt genuine, and I’m super happy to have this book back in my life! If you are a lover of Shifter romances, definitely go read this book, as soon as possible!
My favourite storylines, shifters. And as if it couldn’t get any better than that it’s an M/M with M/M/F. Thank you, God. Well, thank you, Dakota West for a great story.
Ash and Hunter two male shifters who have been more than happy living their lives as a couple, but apparently want every male on male shifter was is a triad, finding that one special woman that will make then complete. Not everyone has found the perfect threesome yet. Some can go for years without finding their final mate.
Cora has left behind her family, job, basically a whole life to start over. Someone clearly won’t take no for an answer, but it’s more than that. A guy she dated only twice is stalking her, the real weird kind. Sending her letters, photos of her sleeping, very scary.
Cora is moving to start again, and what better place to start over than in a town with shifters. Two men to everyone woman. I’m looking up for the postcode as I write this review. (cheesy smile inserted here)
When Cora and Ash meet you just know sparks will eventually fly, but when Cora meets Hunter I thought forget the sparks, there’s going to be orgasmic fireworks with these two hot males. Oh. My. God. Even better than I imagine.
Neil the stalker isn’t about to give unfortunately. But she’s with two very strong shifters, so she’s protected, right?
This was such a great story, I am jumping right into book twp. God, I hope it’s as hot as book one.
“In 1999, three shifter states had been founded where the majority of shifters lived. There was Cumberland, formerly western North Carolina, eastern Tennessee, and parts of southern Virginia and Kentucky. Then there was Meriweather, comprising parts of Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming. And finally, there was Cascadia, taken from northern California and southern Oregon.” (Direct quote)
In this “shifter world”, there is always two guys and one girl in a triad relationship. The ones in this story are Ash, Hunter and Cora.
Ash, a sheriff’s deputy, and Hunter, a veterinarian, are bear shifters who have been together since they were fifteen years old. They were beginning to think they would never find their third to complete their triad. When Ash stops Cora for speeding, he has an instant reaction to her. Then when Hunter sees her at Tony’s, the pizza place in town, he has the same kind of reaction.
Cora moved from Charlesville, Virginia to Granite Valley, Cascadia to get away from Neil, the man who was stalking her. She was finished with men for awhile. Or so she thought until she meets Ash for the first time.
This was a quick and fun read. There is great chemistry and a little drama thrown in. There is a HEA with no cliffhanger.
Cora is moving across the country to Cascadia, to get away from her creepy stalker! But her sister is unsure about the move, as Cascadia is a shifter state. But Cora doesn't plan on having a relationship. As she's speeding down the highway and is pulled over by Ash, she rethinks otherwise!
Ash is a local police deputy and he pulls Cora over for speeding but as soon as he sees her, his bear roars and he knows she's the one to complete his triad, along with Hunter. He also suspects she's in danger.
Hunter is the local vet, who specialises in wildlife. He's just finishing up when Ash rings and they go for pizza, and that's where he sees Cora, for the first time too. His bear also roars and he wants her badly.
After an incident that leaves Cora terrified, she calls Ash for help, where Hudson joins him and asks Cora out on a date and she happily accepts.
I enjoyed reading this book. This is a novella and it's a short easy read but also so enjoyable. I don't usually read shifter books but I gave this a go and I loved it. Its not to heavy on the shifting and I like that. It doesn't over run the story but compliments it nicely. I Ioved Ash's protective side and Hunters easy going side. All 3 complemented each other perfectly. The sex scenes were hot and not overbearing that I wanted to skip.
I have always liked Shifter stories. This just added something more to it. I had actually already read about Triads but most were men and one was an omega capable of carrying children. I have actually read about Bear Shifters. This story at least is more favorable to them. I liked this because both Hunter and Ash seem very much in love even though they don't have the female for their Triad (that is how this series is doing their Triads). This is also the story of a date turned stalker turned to crazed lunatic. In this story Cora chooses not to tell the guys the real reason she has traveled Cross Country and why her car window broke. On the guys date with Cora, things get heated with the dancing. Once Ash & Hunter bring her back with them so they can keep watch on her from her stalker, things go beyond heating up. They start to lose themselves in each other because they found their third. Things get very smexy in there for awhile. When then the stalker comes to the cabin to trick the boys, and grab Cora and she was silently praying in her head, I found I was too! Get there fast boys!! I give it a 9/10. Could use a bit more on the plot. I mean I love the smexy. I really like the Shifter. I would have liked to have seen more. I know there is more to the series but I guess I would have liked to have a bit more to their relationship story.
