Euphemia Lane had a feeling from the get go that Samuel Jordon was going to give her trouble. In his rude letter, he threatened to spank and disarm her should she show up in Seattle with her pistols. However, his warning doesn’t deter Effie from her mission. Come hell or high water, she and Grace are determined to travel to Seattle to rescue their friend, Amelia. How was she to know that Amelia’s letter was a huge mistake, or that Horace Remington would follow them and nearly kill her? And there was no way she could have anticipated what would happen once she and Grace arrive at the Jordon home.

Never would she have imagined that she would receive her very first spanking at the hands of her nemesis. It was galling to say the least, and to top it all off, he relieved her of her pistols after she destroyed a treasured family heirloom and shot Horace. Now she is in Sam’s protective custody until the Marshal determines she had acted in self-defense. The problem seems to be: who is going to protect her from Sam?

Samuel Jordon is so angry when Marshal Cole Hadley sticks him with Miss Lane that he sees stars. In his opinion, she is a sassy-mouthed witch hiding in a sweet little body. His determination to be firm yet detached, lasts all of two days. Who knew one little drop of frosting on one luscious lip would change his life forever? What kind of young woman can turn a well-balanced, confirmed bachelor into a perverted fiend who can't keep his hands off her?

In this, the third book of her Marriage Market series, Stevie MacFarlane has taken her writing to a new, even more erotic level. If spanking and other explicit content offends you, please do not purchase this story.

COMBUSTIBLE PHYSICAL CONNECTION

This book had me laughing out loud until I had tears and couldn't see to read. The antics of Euphemia aka Effie Lane and her angst with Sam Jordan are priceless. Talk about explosive chemistry!! These two together are dynamite. I have thoroughly enjoyed these stories and seeing all the trouble that these three Boston socialites can get into, but Effie takes the cake!

The plot kept me totally captivated and the pages turning to see what would happen next. The dialog was hilarious and entertaining. The charming cast of characters has made this series so delightful, with wild shenanigans, sassy mouths, daring adventures, stubborn wills, multiple spankings, and erotic teasers. The saddest part was reading 'the end.’

I've read several of Ms. MacFarlane's books in the past (though not lately). I've left reviews for some of them individually, but I want to say two things in general regarding my reactions to all her books before I address this one more specifically.

First, I appreciate her humor and her natural dialogue; I also appreciate that the discipline is not usually harsh.

That said, I always think that I'll like her books better than I do. I enjoy her blog, which is funny and thoughtful; in addition, since I, too, was "with her," we share similar values and outlooks on life. But then I get to the books and it's as though someone completely different has written them. While I realize that authors don't necessarily write what they believe, it's sometimes difficult to separate the novel's/characters' beliefs/actions/words from what may very well be the author's. This is particularly true if the author represents certain ideologies in a number of books. Ms. MacFarlane consistently writes books in which the men really believe that they're superior to women based solely on their biological sex. And the women go along with this. While I realize that these are DD books, it's possible to write in this genre without gender essentialism and misogyny, and yet this author never does so.

I'm giving this book 3 stars because at least the H realizes how badly he's underestimated the h at the end (though this will not prevent him from giving her an undeserved beating to show off his "dominance" in Suzanna; and, yes, I call all non-consensual "spankings" beatings because physically and morally that's what they are). But this is my break-up review with Ms. MacFarlane. If she ever writes a book in which the DD is consensual and the couple is on a more equal footing, someone please let me know and I'll give her another try.

Great book

I totally loved this book! It has a little of everything in it. Some mystery and suspense. Lots of humor that had me laughing out loud. And lots of hot steamy sexy parts to make you squirm. A totally great book that I recommend reading.

The Marriage Market Series by Ms. MacFarlane is an absolute delight. This book, #3 in the series, is Effie’s story and can be enjoyed as a stand-alone story. However, considering the characters all relate back to previous situations in the series it is highly recommended that you read the previous two before enjoying this one. Having said that, Effie’s story is the fun filled, fast and furious, development of an unexpected romance with Sam. Effie is from the east and has gone to a finishing school but she does not enhance the image of same. She is totally independent, definitely not looking for marriage, and is scornful of men in general. She is also armed and dangerous, especially to any woman who earns her displeasure or man who would assume to dominate her. Sam falls into that last category, and initially he dislikes Effie and all the antics she gets up to. Their engagement comes about after an evening where both lose their self-control and end up having a sexual encounter. Rather than being appalled and enraged, Effie is enthralled and enraptured. Now she wants more, and she wants it forever! You will really enjoy the days leading up to their wedding and how Sam plays her like a fine tuned violin. Sexciting, satisfying, and highly recommended. 5 Stars

I was looking forward to Effie's story and it was exactly what I needed. She's so sassy and full of spunk. Sam is her perfect match in every way. At first, I didn't really like him but eventually I realized they were made for each other. I'm really enjoying this series.

Effie is the outspoken fiery friend of Amelia and Grace that we've seen in those previous stories. This book is about her and Sam, who doesn't want a wife, but is more than willing to spank Effie to keep her in line. I loved these interactions with these characters as well as the rich tapestry of supporting characters. This author has a great way of weaving these multiple stories so you get to see a little of everything. Effie and Sam's relationship is a little bit spicier but no less loving. Looking forward to more from this raucous group.

I received a copy of this book from the author and I'm voluntarily leaving this honest, unbiased review.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story with Effie and Sam. Effie is a take-charge young woman in a world where women are thought of as possessions. She comes west with Grace to rescue their best friend Amelia from an unhappy marriage. Along the way, she protects Grace from someone who she thinks is out to hurt her. She is wrong and when they arrive in San Francisco, Effie meets Sam, who takes her to task for her behavior. This leads to some hilarious situations where Effie's sassy mouth takes her to places that she doesn't want to go. Sam and Effie find that they have some explosive chemistry, even though they think that they do not want each other. There is a HEA for Sam and Effie and we find out how the rest of the 'brides' are doing.

I received an advance copy and this is my honest review.

I love this new series The Marriage Market by Stevie MacFarlane. I usually do not like historical romances but I found Amelia and Grace to be very enjoyable and hot. Effie and Sam's book just as good. A little bottom warming is always fun. Perfect. Kudos.

Let's take a visit to the Old West, shall we? To a specific town where the men are protectively dominate and the woman spectacular (at giving the men a hard time, of course). From the very first word you feel as if you are Effie, waking up in bed with a sore bottom and a handsome mammoth of a man sitting nearby. It can only get better from here, right?

It won't take long until you fall head over heels not only with the strong willed, gun toting Effie and her eventual love, but all of her friends, their men, their men's friends and families, and last but not least; all the women who have come to town waiting for their own story to unfold.

Stevie MacFarlane has effortlessly spun a 3rd tale not to be missed. When reading this book, I hadn’t yet read the first two in this series, Amelia or Grace, so I know for a fact that you CAN read it as a stand alone; However, why wouldn’t you want to read all three? (and hopefully four?) so I’m going to go one click the others right now. I don’t want to be left behind, and believe me, neither do you. Do yourself a favor, one click, right now!

I absolutely loved this book!! From the beginning to the very last page! Effie, is by far, my most favorite character! She is full of spirit and sass and she is never worried about speaking her mind! I was laughing out loud while reading and cheering her on, seriously. Sam is strong enough to handle her and boy, do the sparks fly! A fantastic addition to the series and you get to visit with the characters from the first two books. This stands alone nicely but if you haven't read the other two you are seriously missing out!

Best book of the series

The characters danced before my eyes with wit and charm. This is quite possibly the best book of Ms MacFarlane's to date. The spiciness of this book is a surprising delight...not what i had expected and more than I had hoped.
Read about Effie and Sam and the rest of the gang. You knocked it out of the park, dear.

Quite lighthearted, humorous and very enjoyable. Sam falls for Effie despite finding her quite maddening. He takes over and orders her about - for her own good he determines. He does acknowledge towards the end that he can be responsible with regard to her guns which balanced things out nicely.
