Undaunted: Life's Toughest Battles Are Not Always Fought in a War Zone

Rate this book
Undaunted is the true life story of former Navy SEAL and Private Military Contractor Chris McKinley **(AKA:Christopher Mark Heben). Undaunted gives the reader unreserved insight into ALL the good AND THE BAD! Learn of Chris's struggles, his rise to glory, including his time at BUD/S (the Navy's elite SEAL program); his felonious fall from grace after helping out a friend and finding himself caught in the U.S. legal system; and his self-willed seven-year battle to forge himself anew. Backed by a never-say-die attitude, Chris wins back his life and is further able to regain the good graces of his community. He shares stories about how he became a television military expert after the death of Osama bin Laden, his work on numerous television documentaries, and his entrepreneurial endeavors. Chris delves into his work as a Private Military Contractor at Blackwater and his myriad experiences in Northern Africa and in the Middle East--including the evacuation of an American Embassy. Undaunted is a story that will make you think, cheer, cry and reflect upon your own life. In the end, Chris lives by the most important mantra of them all: A warrior never leaves anyone behind on the battlefield, including himself. **NOTE: Chris has returned to legally using his real name, the name he was born with; Christopher Mark McKinley/Chris McKinley.

Advance Praise for Undaunted:
1. "Real and raw, just like the man and his band of SEAL brothers who forged him. Heben is no Angel (by his own admission)--he is a warrior and a Patriot that will not quit. A must read!" -- Scott McEwen, #1 New York Times bestselling co-author of American Sniper and national bestseller Sniper Elite novel series.

2. "Chris Heben has lived one hell of a life, and he tells his story with more candor, humor, and gusto than any author I've read in a long time. Plus, I learned how, in a pinch, to cut off a friend's damaged testicle. James Patterson wouldn't know where to begin!" -- Jack Cashill, author and Emmy Award-winning producer

3. "Chris Heben served our country valiantly as a U.S. Navy SEAL. In Undaunted, he pulls back the curtain about what it takes to become one of America's elite. In the process, he offers a firsthand account of the challenges faced in life and how to pull yourself back up by your bootstraps when you fall." -- Colonel David W. Sutherland, U.S. Army (Ret.)

4. "Immerse yourself in Chris Heben's journey in the most lethal brotherhood the world has ever seen. But the physical is only part of it--overcoming adversity beyond the battlefield is what puts Chris in his own league. This book will inspire you." -- Judge Jeanine Pirro, Emmy-Award winner; host, Justice with Judge Jeanine, Fox News Channel

5. "Chris Heben is the real deal. His story, told in his memoir "Undaunted," chronicles events that would test even Jason Bourne - except unlike Bourne, Heben is real. He lays it all out - the good, the bad, and the ugly. By turns exciting, thoughtful and raunchy, the book spares no one, least of all Heben himself, as it relates his experiences in the Post-9/11 world. Where others might see only black and white, the former SEAL, Blackwater employee and contract covert op finds an infinite range of gray, with occasional tints of red - blood red, that is. The only absolute is staying alive - a difficult proposition in many of the places Heben frequented. "Undaunted" is a raw, eye-opening account of the life of a warrior."
- Jim DeFelice, NY Times best-selling author of American Sniper, Leopards Kill

I think that this is a very good motivational book especially for someone going into the Navy SEALs or for individuals in business. I found some of it very interesting but for my interest in modern military nonfiction I can only give it three stars it wasn't what I am looking for but, again very motivational just not the right book for me.

This overall was a good read. Chris takes you through his struggles in his personal life and his time in SEAL Team 8. He has a resilience and ability to overcome. This book is sometimes funny but also inspiring. I wouldn't hesitate to to recommend this book.
