Fearing the consequences of her eager search through the letters of the Chronoscope for clues on how their world had been destroyed, Mell returns to the diligent grind of her life-job as a General Task worker at R-34. Hoping to find peace, she avoids her perilous need to seek out answers from the Waster, Jack Sweeney, who signals her in the night. Despite her efforts, the haunting reality of the long-forgotten past has yet to release its sudden grip on the encampment. Elder Hemaris is growing more wary of their group by the day, Oscar is caught roaming the wasteland in a stupor, Scaver Ficcin is terrifying Edie from the prison below Hospital House, and it is clear that Bryne has read further than Mell into the journal of Jonathan Harker, the man who had braved the journey into Transylvania to visit Count Dracula – the undead embodiment of Vlad the Impaler.

At the center of the upheaval is a family heirloom offered to Mell from Trigger, the elderly Watchman under Felicity’s care. His erroneous ramblings quickly lead Mell to spy on the Elders and explore a room below the abandoned encampment of R-13, which connects the ring around her neck to the letters of Mina Murray, Jonathan Harker’s betrothed. Braving the terrifying content of the Chronoscope, and battling her unlawful feelings for Bryne, Mell finds new hope in a man from the past by the name of Swales, and news of a derelict ship that ran aground centuries earlier called The Demeter.

VAMPIRE EPOCH is a series of “mashup fiction”, merging original content with work from the public domain. Here, in this post-apocalyptic landscape, you are given the opportunity to experience your favorite stories…re-vamp’d.

About the author

M. Clifford was born in 1978 in a suburb of Chicago. He grew up in a forest-encroached neighborhood called Northwoods, where the embers of his imagination were kindled during solitary treks through the wilderness. M. wrote his first book, 'The Bullet That Never Stopped', on his mother's rickety green typewriter at the prudent age of eight and three-quarters. While dating his wife in college, he wrote numerous stories, including novel-length additions to her favorite books, giving those beloved characters new adventures. In 2006, he began his career as an indie author. His debut novel, "The Book", is being taught in high schools as a companion to Bradbury's "Fahrenheit 451" and Orwell's "1984".

His multi-genre collection includes The Muse of Edouard Manet, The Book, Felinian, Fertile Crescent, Propaganda, The Dracula Index, and #WhoIsLerosy.

M. Clifford lives by the beach in Los Angeles with his wife and son.
