Colonization #1

Kepler Moon Alpha

Rate this book
He has no memory whatsoever. All he knows now is that he somehow survived a plane crash this morning and managed to reach the safety of an unknown island. At first he believed he may have found refuge on an island in the South Pacific, but that unknown ringed planet on the horizon suggests he isn’t on Earth at all. And to make it worse, the island’s sole resident recognizes him and insists he crashed his aircraft in the ocean and washed up on her beach before… multiple times. Only this time, she’s not putting up with his nonsense and she’s got quite a story to tell him if he’s willing to listen. Maybe he can discover what's causing an unusual loop in time that only she recalls. Maybe he can discover a way to escape from this confusing island and perhaps rescue her in the process.

The continuing Colonization Saga:
Colonization #2: Black Hole
Colonization #3: The Gateway
Colonization #4: Valhalla
Colonization #5: Fossil
Colonization #6: Warrior of the Myst
Colonization #7: Warrior of the Myst II

Editorial Reviews:
"McElhaney's story telling is deft, well-paced, and with an ear for conversation" ~
Beacon Journal Book Review

"The author does a good job of sucking you into the moment and feeling as if you are the main character. The technology and scenarios are realistic enough for this sci fi fan and if you like a good storyteller Mr. McElhaney knows how to do it."

Scott's first novel, Mommy's Choice, was originally published in paperback under the pseudonym Scott Curtis. In under a year on the bookshelves, that novel won the National Christian Choice Book Award for romantic suspense. When Scott moved to a different publisher and started making his novels available to Kindle readers, he returned to his real name and reduced the prices to the absolute minimum allowed by Amazon.
Scott McElhaney currently resides in Ohio with his wife and two sons. He's a Desert Shield veteran of the US Navy, having served on the USS South Carolina CGN-37. Although his books didn't become available to Kindle readers until December 2011, over 250,000 digital copies have been purchased to date and he still maintains a position in the top 100 worldwide in the "Sci-fi Space Opera" category.

A great and suspenseful start to a new series. As of writing this review, I already read book two as well and I like where this is going. Overall the two together remind me a little of The Martian and I'm hoping for several more books in this series. I can't say too much about this first book since it's one of those that a detailed review would have to be titled "spoiler alert" and I don't go for those.

What happens when you suddenly escape from a crashed plane only to discover you lost every memory you ever had? Then you find yourself in peril in the middle of the sea? The protagonist manages to barely escape with his life only to find himself on a deserted island that happens to not even be on Earth. The island isn't completely deserted however and the woman who lives there also has problems with her memory, except for the fact that she remembers him. And she not only remembers him, she's certain that he's part of her ongoing problem and he holds the key to rescuing both of them. The only problem is that she has to convince him or they both will never escape.

Nice light read, but not quite believable enough. The characters did not behave like I would expect them to, even if the reveal at the end explains a part of it. I felt that the story was a little silly as a result. Now that the reveal is out of the way, the story sounds more promising - I think it's worth to check out the next one in the series.

Interesting premise but spoiled by the sex

McElhaney writes well and if it wasn't for all the sex he puts in I would enjoy all of his books. Twice though I have not been able to finish a book of his because of that. He responded to a previous review of mine and his reassurance persuaded me to try again. I will not make that mistake again.

Nice start to this series! Always recommend Scott McElhaney, his wheelhouse is what I enjoy reading, and part 1 of colonization didn't disappoint.
