She made a mistake with a devious stranger.

Spencer Edwards is used to fighting to get ahead in a world that has given her few chances. Just when she thinks she's turned a corner, another setback gives her no choice but to manipulate and deceive. One fateful afternoon, when her guilt can no longer bear the weight of her lies, Spencer meets Ben Chang, a charismatic stranger who appears to be the perfect mark for her charming deceit. But, Ben's magnetic presence and genuine affection captivate Spencer, threatening her plans to swindle him and her vow to never fall in love. Desperate to save herself from certain heartbreak, Spencer makes a disastrous mistake, awakening a dangerous side of Ben that could cost her everything.

He made a mistake with a familiar enemy.

Sione Tuiali’i is used to fighting to keep his violent past from threatening his new life as the owner of an exclusive resort in Belize. Just when he thinks he's exorcized the demons that tormented him, a suspicious incident forces him to contend with the violence that influenced his former life. After a fateful encounter with a pretty stranger, Sione finds out Ben Chang, a cunning adversary from his past, orchestrated the random hookup. The hostility behind Ben’s sneak attack enrages Sione, threatening to reignite the feud that began between them years ago. Determined to defeat his bitter enemy, Sione makes a life-altering mistake and learns that the truth behind Ben’s secret agenda could cost him everything.

Some mistakes are worth making.

Though Spencer and Sione are miles apart, they are closer than they realize, connected by a dangerous foe who has them in his crosshairs. They have too much to lose and just as much to gain, but only if they can figure out that some mistakes are so perfect, they're flawless.

FLAWLESS MISTAKE (The Spencer & Sione Series, #0) by Rachel Woods is the prequel to her series and establishes the characters and the “mistake” that brings them all together.

Spencer Edwards is out of work and money. She allows her half-sister to talk her into her ‘Dating Protocol’ scheme even though she knows it is criminally wrong. When she is sitting in the park one afternoon debating this turn in her life, a handsome and charismatic stranger, Ben Chang, sits next to her and she begins to want more. Spencer doesn’t believe in love or marriage, so in her fear of her growing relationship with Ben, she makes the “mistake”.

Ben Chang is not the man he portrays himself to be to Spencer. To cross him is to owe him. Spencer now owes Ben and even as she is horrified by him, she still finds herself drawn to him.

Sione Tuiali’i has a violent past that he wants to forget as his uncle has trusted in him and left him his resort in Belize to run. Once friend, now enemy, Ben Chang is trying to destroy Sione and Sione has to figure out why.

Spencer and Sione are on a collision course set up by Ben.

This prequel is a more of a set up for the novel to come than a standalone novella. It is great for me as I continue on to Flawless Danger, because I always want more information on characters and their motivations. I would recommend this prequel to those reading more in this series, but it does not give a satisfactory conclusion on its own.

Review written by the publisher at BonzaiMoon Books and contains some spoilers.

What drew me to this book was the complexity of the characters and loving the play on the words of the title “Flawless” when all the characters in the story are deeply flawed. The main character, Spencer is one of those tough feisty girls who walks the tight rope of wanting to do the right thing, but often gives herself a pass to do the wrong thing. She “allows” herself to be manipulated by an overbearing older sister into a life of crime where she dates much older men, drugs them and steals from them. It is clear that Spencer struggles with the guilt of her criminal lifestyle and I rooted for her to get free of it. But everything goes wrong when she tries her scheme against the younger, sexy Ben Chang and ends up committing a more serious crime than petty theft. Ben is more than her match, a dangerous criminal and one of those diabolical villains that you can’t help but like even though he’s so unabashedly bad! There’s something sexy and hypnotic about his chilling threats and its no surprise that Spencer is attracted and repulsed by him at the same time. But this novella is supposed to be setting up a love story between Spencer and Sione, not Ben. So, meanwhile, Sione is this uber handsome man with a hero conflict and a past also steeped in criminal behavior that involves guess who? Ben Chang. I won’t give away the plot, but you definitely get the sense that Spencer and Sione are on a collision course to meet each other and Ben Chang will be the one driving them there. But this meeting doesn’t happen in the novella. An excerpt from the next book shows us a glimpse of Sione and Spencer together and the chemistry between them is undeniable (can’t wait to read more of that in the next book!). I thoroughly enjoy complex, unpredictable characters like the ones the author wrote, but found myself wishing to see how Spencer & Sione would meet in this novella. Overall, though really good book.

Houston, TX; Townhouse. Spencer Edwards woke up & Benjamin Ben Chang (Asian) was lying in her bed.
“Love, marriage, baby carriage.” That would never happen with Spencer.
Rae (1/2 half-sister) & Spencer had devised a plan. They titled it Dating Protocol.

A very dangerous love/sex game.
San Ignacio, Belize.
Sione Tuiali’I (son, owner/manager) was sitting in his office contemplating selling the Belizean Banyan Resort.
His Uncle Siosi Tuiali’I had left it to him.
Truman Camareno (cousin, lawyer, business advisor) was helping him transact the deal regardless of what his Father Richard Tuiali’I said/felt.

He woke up one morning & Kelsey was in his bed.
Houston, Texas, Moonlight Lake Apartments
Spencer told her 2 1/2 half-sisters: Rae & Shady about Ben Chang.
Fast forward, what did Mr. Cephas (Rae’s attorney) find out about Ben Chang?

Warning: This book is for adults only & contains extreme violence, graphic adult content or expletive language &/or sexually explicit scenarios. It may be offensive to some readers.

I did not receive any type of compensation for reading & reviewing this book. While I receive free books from publishers & authors, I am under no obligation to write a positive review. Only an honest one.

A very awesome book cover, great font & writing style. Wow, a very well written mystery-suspense sex/romantic novella book. It was very easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of very unique/colorful characters to keep track of. This could also make another great suspense filled mystery movie, or mini TV series. Hooked from the start I couldn’t put this book down. But left me hanging for more. To be continued. There is no doubt in my mind this is a very easy rating of 5 stars.

I started out to read the first four or five chapters of "Flawless Mistake". Three and a half hours later, I had finished the book (yes, I read slow and I re-read a paragraph to see if he said what!!) I'm captivated by the characters and want more details on them. Spencer has lost her mind. Ben Chang is a slithery tongued lizard and Sione can't figure out if he's good or evil. The sisters, well, hmmm … is Shady a Christian or is there a shady side to her? There are just enough twists to keep you on the edge of the cliff. I am anxiously waiting for the next book!!!

Suspense Filled Drama.
Spencer and Ben have a connection they have bene building on for a while. Spencer swore she was not going to steal from him like she does all her other “dates”. Times are tough however and a girl has to do what a girl has to do. She gets caught, almost killed, and in the process she stabs Ben and leaves him bleeding and calling out to her for help. She swears from that moment going forward she is not going to steal from people again and is going to work a real job no matter how much she has to struggle.
Ben and Sione used to be friends until a fight in the past changed all that and they are now enemies. Ben sent a woman to get close to Sione and steal something from him. She gets caught in the act and is now in jail. Sione goes and confronts Ben only to end up in a fight. Ben tells Sione that he only sent the girl to get what his father wants.
Ben goes back to Spencer and tells her that he wasn’t trying to kill her but the man that was breaking into his house that was standing behind her. She doesn’t know if she can believe him. He now needs a favor from her and she owes him. They both seem to have feelings for each other but neither one trusts the other. Spencer knows that she has to do what he says because Ben can be a dangerous man, and didn’t he say there was a chance there still could be something?
There is so much mystery in this book I need to know what happens next! I can’t wait to read the next book to find out what happens between Spencer and Ben!

WOW!!! Just, WOW!!! Flawless Mistake puts the reader on the edge of their seat and there I stayed. Turning pages, one after the other till the end... Oh, but there seems to be much, much more. And a necessity to read the next book. Spencer Edwards and her two half sisters have had a difficult life. One sister is someone who wants something and does whatever it takes to get it, no matter the cost....especially to someone else. One sister's faith leads her...always. Spencer has been out of work and unable to find any. Is she a good person who is willing to make bad choices? It seems so. Her biggest mistake? Involving Benjamin Chang. Because there is “The consequence of your mistake."
Simone Tuiali'i keeps meeting the wrong women. How will these people survive choices and consequences?!? It's an action packed thrilling read, to find out. Rachel Woods writes with depth and detail. Action, Romance, Twists and Turns!!! And yes, this book ends with questions. You will want to follow up with the next book. I received this book through Instafreebie. I am voluntarily posting this review.

Fast Paced And So Good!

When I first saw this book I was drawn to the cover and the I read the synopsis and was hooked. This is my first time reading something from this writer and I can say it will not be my last. The writer is giving you a mystery so worthy of your time because in the middle of reading this story a long ago tale is being talked and played out.I love that we are getting a group of characters that are not only strong but have lost their way .This story has all the makings of a mystery, with romance thrown in and a lot of bad guys looking for something. If you want a fast paced well written story and something that keeps you guessing, this is it.

Sisters start "Dating", their code for getting close to wealthy older men and steal from them. Spenser gets involved with Ben, decides to steal from him. He wakes up and shoots a gun near her. She attempts to hide from him. She ends up stabbing him and running out of his abode. Ben is not what she thinks. He is very sinister and gets women to do favors for him to pay a debt for turning against. If they do not do what he wants, their are consequences. This makes you want to read the next book in the series.

Interesting idea for a story but not believably put together. She has a knife and he has a gun yet somehow she stabs him and gets away. Never bring a knife to a gunfight, they say ... Spencer is convinced by his sister that what she does isn't prostitution because she chooses the (rich) man who'll she'll sleep with before drugging him and robbing him blind!
The writing was pretty good.

It could have been more interesting if it wasn't so repetitive. Must i be reminded in every chapter about the fact that Spencer is not looking for love and the reason behind it? Not much happens in those 80 pages. It could have easily been 30 pages less by skipping all the boring retelling.

This book had a couple of thieves. One evil and one just trying to survive. There's a very dangerous hidden agenda. It was fairly fast paced. I enjoyed the plot. It ends on a cliffhanger.

I'll start with, I hate cliffhangers. That being said, the storyline was engaging. I have always enjoyed who done its and this story kept me entertained. Multiple stories within the overall story. I just don't enjoy having to buy the next book to finish a storyline.
Overall a wonderful read.

Good read

This was a good read. I did get tired of the story jumping back and forth between locations and time periods, and I also wish the characters would have had more depth to them.

It was an okay story if street and money with high stakes but not so intriguing at times, then mysterious others.

I received a free copy of this novella in exchange for an honest review.

This prequel novella is tense, sexy and well written, but it suffers somewhat as a stand-alone book as the plot is primarily an introduction to a larger story.

Flawless Mistake opens with sex, intrigue and danger, and these elements continue to drive the story all the way to the end. The characters and their motivations are believable and engaging, and the two protagonists are endearing despite their questionable codes of morality. The story takes place in Texas and Belize and is very much grounded in reality, but Woods manages to make these settings feel exotic and seductive. The various twists and turns are exciting and unexpected, but at no time do they feel cheap or overly dramatic. The pace does slacken a little in a few of the middle chapters, which affects the overall intensity, but for the most part the story is gripping and dynamic.

This novella is quick and easy to read and it effectively establishes the characters and setting. However, it is somewhat unsatisfying as there is little resolution by the final page. It is a strong first act, but by itself offers little payoff for the ideas that it sets up.

When I read the synopsis, I thought this would be a chance from what I usually read. It didn't pull me in at the beginning but as I kept reading, it began to pull me in because I needed to know what happened with Spencer, Ben and Sione. This is more of a mystery than romance and I can't wait to read the next on, Flawless Danger to see what happens next.
This is a first for me from Rachel Woods and I will be reading more from her.
