Bridgewater Ménage #4

Their Treasured Bride

Rate this book
Rebecca Montgomery never expected to leave London and go to the American West, but this was how her brother saves her from an impending marriage of convenience. She also never expected her brother to marry her by proxy to a trusted friend before dying on the journey. She quickly discovers that the Montana territory is a far cry from England, and so are the expectations of a wife at Bridgewater Ranch, for she's married not just to Dashiell, but also to his friend and fellow Scot, Connor MacDonald.Dashiell McPherson never expected to find himself wed to a woman he's never met, especially not a prim lady raised to believe her desires are something to be repressed rather than enjoyed. Can an inhibited woman accept not just one, but two husbands? It will take ample Scottish brash, a fair amount of brawn and plenty of carnal persuasion to free Rebecca of her inhibitions and show her how treasured she is.

My friends laught at my love of romance novels, asking, how could I read smut. Most of what I read is not "smut" and I just love the escapism of reading. Especially after years of dissecting Sickens, and Fitzgerald, and Orwell.
Well, these novels are smut, but not so unworthy of reading. Yes, it's a menage series, but the heroine always grows and learns; and, she always finds love and protection.
So, get past the text and the formula. I read to get away and these books do that. For me.

This book was better then the last book, but Rebecca still had bits and pieces of that innocent virgin going on. However, by the end of it she got more comfortable and was able to open up to Conner and Dash. Rebecca came along way from when she showed up on their doorstep saying her brother married them of to Dash. I will probably be taking a break from this series for a bit.

If you listen to one story you have listened to all of them. The only thing that change here are the characters physical description and the women background. Even so, they are all in trouble and forced into a marriage with 2 men who completely disregard their background and world views and push them too soon to accept both of them sexually. Not to mention the punishments with out any discussions about save words, limits, etc. basically they are abused in a different way to what they are used to, and learn to accept it as it is better for them than anything else. And the men disguise their bully behaviour as love and care for those women. Very disappointing. At least it’s short.
The narration was the only good thing about this.

Let me be clear… the only reason I picked up this book was to fulfill the Romance Reading Challenge category of “Someone riding a horse on the cover.” You would think it wouldn’t be that hard to find, but it is… There are lots of books with cowboys and horses on the cover, but not too many with people actually riding the horse. This book is straight up erotic romance, something I don’t really enjoy anymore, but I finished it because of the challenge.

Rebecca’s much older brother saves her from a horrible arranged marriage, taking her from England to the Western Territories of America. They are headed to the Bridgewater Ranch in Montana, a place that is safe for the men who all served together in some war in some region near Prussia. Rebecca’s brother dies en route, but wants to make sure she’s protected, so marries her by proxy to Dash McPherson. When Rebecca arrives, she discovers that things are a bit different on the ranch, and she’s not only married to Dash but Connor as well.

Their Treasured Bride is the story of Rebecca’s transformation from prim English lass to a well-loved woman. This isn’t a bad story, but I was annoyed with how it came about. Her husbands believe they know what is best for her (even though they just met her) and recognize that she wants to feel desire, but was raised not to enjoy sex or her body, nor to express feelings. So they “force” her to have sex with them over and over, and magically in less than 48 hours… she’s a changed woman. (insert eye roll)

The story is basically one well-described sex scene after another, which isn’t a bad thing if you enjoy lots of sex with little character development and story. While the sex scenes aren’t bad, I found myself disbelieving the contemporary feel of them. Now, I’ve never studied the sexual awareness of early American settlers, but this felt way too “50 Shades modern” than “Old West exploring sexual desire”. These men have an awareness and command, using terms and toys (butt plugs, lubricant), that come across as out of place for the time.

Narration: The entire story is performed by Ms. Stewart who successfully shifts between the first person POVs of Rebecca, Dash, and Connor. I appreciate how she uses the appropriate accent for narrating each POV: a proper London accent for Rebecca and Scottish brogues for the men. I started at 1.2x playback speed so that I could adequately understand the story; however, about halfway through the book, I up’d the speed to 1.6x because I found the story annoying and just wanted to finish it. Additionally, Ms. Steward alters all dialogue for gender and performs a wonderful array of accents including American, Scottish, and English.

In the end, Their Treasured Bride wasn’t a DNF but should have been a DNS (Do Not Start). If you enjoy erotic romance, then I recommend, but if you are looking for a solid story, don’t waste your time.

My Ratings:
Story: D
Narration: B+

I’VE NEVER BELONGED TO ANYONE BEFORE—NOT ANYONE WHO WANTED ME

These stories by Vanessa Vale will take the reader on a fascinating journey of dominance, submission, passion, and erotic sexual scenes. The cast of characters is fierce, loyal, and passionate in and out of the bedroom, the women are strong but willingly submit, and the men are dominant and very protective. Bridgewater men possess their wive’s in both body and soul. Nothing is considered inappropriate. These stories are incredibly explicit in sexual detail in a loving and fulfilling relationship.

I especially enjoyed that this story was different than most. What a surprise when Rebecca Montgomery shows up in Bridgewater to see Dashiell McPherson inform him that she is his proxy bride. Having no knowledge that she or her late brother was coming to Bridgewater comes as a surprise—one he is willing to accept. Explaining to Rebecca the Bridgewater way of at least two men to every woman, and that she will also be married to Connor MacDonald.

Rebecca was born in England, sent away to bordering school from the time she was six, and her father had recently arranged a marriage with an elderly earl who needed an heir. When Cecil Montgomery learned of the plan, he rescues Rebecca and plans for them to live in Bridgewater. Only a fall from a horse leads to his death, but a proxy marriage will protect her.

“I can’t . I can’t like it. I’m not supposed to like it. A husband doesn’t want a woman who’s passionate, for he will question her countenance.”

“The men of Bridgewater Ranch held themselves to a higher standard. We were faithful, possessive, and very loving. In return, wives did as bid with regards for their safety and also for their pleasure.”

“You may question their prowess and interest in your body, but you do not need to question their honor or their allegiance to you. You are the center of their world, now, do not doubt it.”

I liked that this story doesn’t have someone trying to harm the bride as seen in most of these stories. Instead, this is a very sheltered, prim Victorian woman who must learn that everything she has been taught is far from the truth. Men, or at least Bridgewater men, don’t have dalliances on the side, and they don’t fumble under the sheets in the dark to produce an heir and spare. Bridgewater men are passionate, and everyone knows they don’t have a shy bone in their bodies. They love hard and often, and the woman between them is pleasured. There is no such thing as taboo or shame; it is lusty, erotic, and often.

“We may be big and brawny, but ye can bring us to our knees.”

Their Treasured Bride is another quick, very steamy, menage romance by Vanessa Vale. This book wasn't any better or worse than any other book in this series, it's honestly just more of the same.

I don't mean to necessarily make that sound like a bad thing, I just have begun to learn not to expect a whole lot from these books. There just isn't enough book for that. I am starting to end them feeling like the characters could have been fleshed out more, the plot could have been given more twists and turns, and the relationship could have had more depth.

I hardly knew anything about Dash and Connor and only barely feel like I knew a bit more about Rebecca. I feel like I know the formula for the plot. They meet, have one maybe two issues to work through, have lots of sex in between, and then it's over. I would have liked more for them to go through both for storyline and for their relationship to have more foundation. But again, it just takes me back to the fact that the book isn't long enough to give me any of that. And honestly if I hadn't gotten the series in Kindle Unlimited when I did, I don't know that I'd continue reading them. Cause I couldn't pay the regular price for so little story.

Rebecca Montgomery never expected to leave London with her brother to escape an arranged marriage only to find herself married by proxy to one of her brother's fellow soldiers on a Ranch in Montana prior to his death. Only her brother knew that she wouldn't be married to just one man but two as was the way of Mohamir where they had served.

Upon arriving at the Ranch Rebecca is introduced to her proxy groom Dash and Connor. While Rebecca has a hard time understanding the relationship on the ranch her men look after her mind, body, and spirit. Fulfillment is not something the women of Bridgewater would know about.

Ms. Vale while mixing contemporary language with the setting of 1800’s American west she sets a steamy love story. This is not a book or series for that matter for the light of heart. Can you read as a stand alone? Yes each one of the stories in the series is about each couple (trio) individually with others on the ranch being in the background. Highly recommended for readers over 18.

I love this series! I love reading anything by this author. She has a way of capturing your attention and keeping it throughout the book.

Rebecca shows up to Bridgewater Ranch one day already married to Dashiell McPherson. She was proxy married to him before her brother's death. She didn't know that she would be getting to husbands for the price of one. Connor MacDonald and Dashiell McPherson are instantly struck by lightening when they first saw Rebecca. They have known that they wanted to share a bride since their army days. Rebecca was supposed to marry someone else who was twice her age in London before her brother rescue her. She didn't really know him but didn't want to marry her father's choice. Will Rebecca, Dashiell and Connor fall in love and find their happy ever after?

Highly recommend this series and this author!

So I liked that her story was a little different, her brother was a soldier with the other guys and he saved her from being forced into a marriage with a very old man.

They we’re going to move to the ranch together but on their way her brother was thrown from a horse and died, but before he died he apparently was able to marry her off to one of his friends through proxy in a letter.

Being raised in a strict British boarding school she had a hard time with excepting their lifestyle and that she had 2 husbands.

This book kinda dragged on for me, her personality was annoying.

She eventually came around…

This menage continuation of Their Bridgewater Bride series gives us the story of Rebecca and her journey to meet Dash (and unbeknownst to her) Connor. She was quite shocked to find this out, but was stuck and had no other alternative. She was the most prissy and proper of all the woman, but she broke pretty fast. Even though I like the books written how the men speak (I hear it as I read), I sometimes have a hard time breaking it down. I enjoyed this book more than the first 3. Lots of steamy sex... which is always a plus.

"Their Treasured Bride" by Vanessa Vale offers a somewhat cheesy but still enjoyable romantic escape. It's true that you need to suspend your disbelief when considering its setting in Montana in the 1800s, as historical accuracy might not be its strong suit. However, if you're looking for a lighthearted read that doesn't take itself too seriously and offers a blend of romance and fantasy, this book isn't a bad choice. While it may not be a literary masterpiece, it can provide a fun and escapist experience, earning it a three-star rating.

I listened to the audiobook. The narrator read short clipped sentences that distracted from any emotion that might have been felt besides the carnal physical feelings that consumed nearly every page in the book. If you're in the mood for a fast fuck with two men then this book delivers. Reading a story like this sparks my physical desires but never catches fire because there is no relationship. They consummate their marriage within hours of meeting each other and then there's rapid rabbiting for the next two days. 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ Without seduction.

Interesting Theme for Book 4!
I think that this is the first book a read that the theme was marriage by proxy.
Rebecca was trying to run from an arranged marriage.
Her brother is the one that married Rebecca to someone by proxy. ( From London to America )
Now, Rebecca has to travel to America to meet her husband for the first time.
Little did she know that in fact she was married to 2 husbands not 1.
It was a fund read.

***AUDIO REVIEW***

Rebecca Montgomery never thought she would leave England specially for the wilderness of Montana. however this was how her brother saved her from a fate worse then death.
Her brother saved her from one marriage only to marry her by proxy to Dashiell McPherson but what she does not know is that she is also wed to Connor MacDonald.
This was not how Dash ever thought he would find a bride, especially one as prim and proper young English lass. Will he and Connor be able to turn her around and to trust them and to love them. If you want to find out, you will have to read for I am not giving anything away. Well writen and a cool story.

I received a free audio for my honest review!

Their Treasured Bride was an enjoyable, easy, quick book to listen on a quiet afternoon. Kylie Stewart the narrator had nice clear voice, she switched off between character in a different voice which I could recognize instantly.

If you are looking for a book to listen to while do chores, errands, on the way home from work or just relax I recommend you pick up a copy of Their Treasured Bride but caution No little or virgin ears around you will corrupt them for life.

Very entertaining

This has been a wonderfully entertaining series all in all. Thanks for the glimpse into the way, way old days. I must say though, thank goodness we as women aren't so repressed or made to feel like these women were, to start with anyway ;) Their loving husbands sure change that.

A Steamy book on Polyamory as the cover suggests. I have heard this audiobook on my commute time..well! it seems too much to take it in one go. The protagonist- Rebecca is our heroine and the character development was smooth.

I have not read other books in the series- but this would definitely tempt me to read more ;)

Prim and proper

Rebecca Montgomery, knew she had one husband, but soon after arriving, alone, at the Bridgewater Ranch, that she was to have 2.
It all went against the ways she was.taught a wife to be. It took witnessing a miracle, to make her realize that 2 is what she wanted in her married life.

Oh wow, right when I thought these books can get a little better? even shorter read and I couldn't keep a straight face! I couldn't stop laughing, nothing about it was romantic.

The girl is married off by proxy, the men don't know they were married, she is English and proper and they deflower her, point blank.

I seriously didn't like it.

Great story and characters

I love the whole Bridgewater Bride series. Each heroine is unique and Their Treasured Bride really brings healing and growth to a woman raised with ignorance and terrible messages about sex. I loved the hero's honor and care of Rebecca. As always there are amazing love scenes and a wonderful HEA.

Instant marriage menage

Rebecca travels to Montana to meet her new husband. Once there she finds out she's expected to have two husbands. Raised in a strict boarding school she doesn't show her emotions. Dash and Connor quickly accept her as do the other women at Bridgewater. This is a sweet tale of immediate acceptance and love.

his is a really sweet read – Conner and Dash have wanted what the other men have but as of yet it hasn’t happened – when Rebecca shows up with a letter from her brother as a proxy bride, to Dash. Learning and believing what they say about Bridgewater is very eye-opening.

More of the same from the other books in this series. A virgin bride marrying two (sometimes three) men. The brides are reluctant but eventually give in to these bossy and controlling me. Loads of sexy times and not much of a story.

They were just what she needed. - Rebecca's been raised to be repressed, in her feelings and her passions. Dash and Connor relish making their little English rose lose her composure. Another naughty addition to the Bridgewater series.

The narrator did a great job!

Prim and Proper

Rebecca certainly learned to overcome her past, and I was excited to see her change from a prickly cactus to a warm and caring person with Dash and Connor.
