Five stories, five mirrors, and a solid dash of fantasy combine to make this collection a Halloween treat.
Meet...
Fiona as she grapples with an overactive imagination or accepts that the mirror she's inherited truly is cursed in "The Covered Mirror."
Jean as she struggles with the grief of losing a loved one while a treasured gift from her past takes on a shocking new life of its own in "On Wings of Steel."
Grace as an ominous environment and odd occurrences push her with increasing urgency to question her past and her future in "The Girl in the Mirror."
Young Anders as he suffers the pangs of first love lost and learns exactly how clever some video games can be in "Magick Mirror."
And the talented painter Tori as she helps a lost soul find a solution to a decades old dilemma and discovers love along the way in "The Antique Mirror."
Mirror, Mirror offers a wonderful introduction to five fantasy authors, but each of these stories is also a self-contained adventure for readers to enjoy.
Kate Baray writes page-turning urban fantasy with relatable characters.
When Kate's not tapping away at her keyboard or in deep contemplation of her next fanciful writing project, she's sweeping up hairy dust bunnies and watching British mysteries.
Kate is from Austin, Texas (where many of her stories take place) but has recently migrated north to Boise, Idaho, where soup season (her favorite time of year) lasts more than two weeks.
She's worked as an attorney, a dog trainer, and in various other positions, but writer is the hands-down winner. She's thankful readers keep reading, so she can keep writing!
Kate's series include Lost Library and Spirelli Paranormal Investigations. Under the pen name Cate Lawley, Kate (aka Cate!) writes Vegan Vamp Mysteries, Death Retired Mysteries, Fairmont Finds Canine Cozy Mysteries.
The Author of Antique Mirror provided me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Rating: 3.5 stars
This Novel is a collection of five short stories that all revolve around mirrors. I really enjoyed the stories, they were the perfect Halloween reads and I really enjoyed that they centered around mirrors it was very different from my usual reads. As much as I did enjoy reading these short stories there was a couple of stories that I had a minor problem with, I just felt like the story was lacking something it felt like it was not finished, but the rest of the stories in the book really made up for them. This collection is the perfect Halloween light read, I loved the paranormal mirror aspect. So, if you're in the mood for some paranormal or just a light read between books, this is definitely it. I will give each story their individual rating below.
The Covered Mirror by: Kate Baray ★★ On Wings of Steel by: Steve Statham ★★★★★ The Girl in the Mirror by: S.R. Bond ★★★ Magick Mirror by: M.G. Herron ★★★★ Antique Mirror D.F. Jones ★★★★★
A good collection of shorts stories all revolving around mirrors. Loved the mirror concept. Recommend reading around Halloween. Suitable for teens also. I only wish some of them continued longer. I received a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
This is a collection of five halloween stories that are each centered around a mirror...not the same mirror and the stories aren't connected. They all deal with fantasy and are a little spookie, deal with different emotions and are totally different stories except each is a good read with good characters and satisfying endings. I was given an arc of this book for an honest review.
I found this book quite interesting and I was surprised. There are several good stories in the book and the writing was very good. Each story involves a Mirror, and each story tells of how the mirror affects the person looking into it. Some go back in time, some see the future, some see who they really are.
These stories all had satisfying conclusions except for "The Girl in the Mirror." That story left the reader hanging. If anyone is entranced by mirrors they will love this collection.
Had a good time reading this book! Short stories about mirrors. Very enjoyable every one of them. If you are looking for a fun book to read this is a good choice.
