Irishology is the ultimate warm, witty, and irreverent guide to all things Irish. Who else but the Irish can perform minor miracles with a prayer to St Anthony? Or truly appreciate the medicinal purposes of flat 7Up? Not to mention the front room, chipper chips, and the `bad pint.' From things you'll only hear and taste in Ireland to tips for surviving any social situation (an Irish wedding anyone?!).
This book is a nostalgic look at growing up in Ireland (in the 1980s and after) through many brief and funny chapters covering weather, home life, tv shows, and whatever else strikes the author’s fancy. My wife and I bought it to read to each other at the end of a trip to Ireland and the short chapters were great for swapping back and forth, with occasional interruptions to check maps and to search youtube for Bosco. And along the way we laughed a lot and learned a fair bit, too.
I absolutely loved Irishology! It’s one of those books that makes you laugh out loud while also making you think, “Yep, I’ve seen that before,” even if you’re not Irish. Ronan Moore has a brilliant way of capturing the little quirks of Irish life, from their obsession with tea to their impossibly long goodbyes. As someone from Spain, I was surprised by how much I could relate. The way Irish people constantly talk about the weather? Feels just like home! And that mix of warmth, sarcasm, and storytelling? Very familiar.
Irishology is a fun and charming read that celebrates all things Ireland. It mixes humor, trivia, and personal anecdotes, making the book entertaining while giving a real sense of Irish culture. Reading it reminded me how funny, welcoming, and vibrant Ireland is—a place that seems perfect to retire and enjoy life to the fullest
Absolutely hilarious - I laughed so hard I cried many times through the book, and now that several family members have read the book, we'll mention one section and have another laugh.
