In the little town Independence, everyone knows everything about each other. They even place bets on different people and their actions. Paula has always been a quiet and private person, minding her own business. But when the foster kid, Leslie, comes to town, and stays at her house, every single pair of eyes are directed towards her. Although she hates the attention, Paula is focused on helping this girl find a home and feel loved and welcomed.

Paula realizes that she is drawn to this little girl. What would happen if she adopts her? The problem is, she has never interacted with kids, let alone teenagers. While she learns how to communicate with Leslie, every single person in her life offers help without being asked.

And there's also the attractive veterinarian, Nate, that she desperately tries to avoid after his mistake that put her sister in danger. He is there for her even though she clearly doesn't want to see him. Nate knows that her situation is fragile and decides to put the past behind and get close to her. He is tired of waiting, it's time for them to face the attraction between them that seems to grow even stronger with every passing moment.

Little do they know, there's a new girl in town, Paige. A desperate reporter whose career is on the line. She needs to find a good story to prove to her ex-boss that she is good at writing stories. And she accidentally overhears a conversation about adopting a foster kid. An idea formed in her mind, and she asks for an interview. Her actions will tremble the quiet and peaceful life of the residents.

But will they stand strong against any external threat? Will the newly-formed situation bring close Paula and Nate, or will it separate them further than before? Will their hearts win the bet that the people of Independence put on?

This is my first book by Virginia Fox and I think I found new literature family. A little town set in the Rocky Mountains. Maybe everyone knows everything about you, but your heart is full knowing that all those people have your back if you ever face a difficult obstacle. It took me longer to fit into the story, because this is the fourth book of the series and I didn't know all the characters. But once I 'met' them I felt like I was inside the book and they take me with them like a child holding its mother's hand to the doors of an amusement park awaiting the adventures ahead.

The description of the place is breathtaking! I love book series that took place in a small mountain town. There's just something about them that fills my soul.

The plot developing is amazing, it was keeping me at my toes, wondering what will happen next. This book touches many sensitive and important topics, and even though it's humorous and fun to read, it leaves strong messages.

Warm, funny, emotional and irresistible book that contains everything a good book should have. You can't put it down until you reach the very last page of it. I love everything about this story and I can't wait to read more books by Virginia Fox.

In Buch 4 geht es nicht nur um Leslie, die Ausreißerin, die bei Paula mehr als nur einen Unterschupf gefunden hat, sondern auch um Paula und Nate, denn natürlich finden sich auch in diesem Buch wieder zwei, die zueinander gehören.

Mit viel Humor, den liebenswerten Menschen in dem erdachten Städtchen in den Rocky Mountains und einer Story, die ebenso hanebüchen wie spannend ist, erfahren wir mehr über den Seelenzustand der jungen Leslie, haben teil an ihren Entscheidungen, auch wenn wir sie nicht billigen und verfolgen, wie selbst Paula an ihren Aufgaben zu wachsen scheint.

Ich habe diese Reihe lieben gelernt und freue mich bereits auf den nächsten Band.

Ein neues Werk von Virginia Fox, das den Leser in die wunderschöne Landschaft der Rocky Mountains führt, hin nach Independence mit ihren gegensätzlichen Einwohnern. Natürlich trifft man auch auf diesen Band auf alte Bekannte, die dem Leser das Gefühl geben, auch dieses Mal ein Teil der Geschichte zu sein. Dieses Mal richtet sich der Fokus auf Paula, Leslie und Nate. Leslie ist als "Streuner" auf Paulas Hof gekommen und seither auch dort geblieben. Das junge Mädchen, das schon viel erlebt hat und schon durch einige Hände von Pflegefamilien gereicht wurde, ist stets auf der Hut. Möchte Paula wirklich, dass sie bleibt? Liebt sie Leslie tatsächlich? Oder wird auch sie sich bei dem kleinsten Anzeichen von Stress und Problemen von dem zurückhaltenden Kind trennen? Kein Wunder also, dass es auch in diesem Band drunter und drüber geht, will Paula doch endlich als Pflegefamilie anerkannt werden. Doch das ist nicht so einfach, denn die Mühlen der Ämter mahlen langsam ... und fördern noch weitere Feinde zutage. Gut, dass Paula gerade in dieser Zeit Hilfe und Unterstützung von dem neuen Tierarzt Nate erhält, der selbst Vater einer achtjährigen Tochter ist und mit Rat glänzen kann. Paula ist zunächst skeptisch, doch langsam nähern sich die beiden an. Aber wie nah werden sie sich kommen? Und wird Leslie mit ihrer Vergangenheit fertig und kann sich endlich auf eine glückliche Zukunft freuen? All das erfahrt ihr in "Rocky Mountain Kid"! Ich kann dieses Buch nur sehr empfehlen! Wer jetzt noch kein Leser oder Fan der "Rocky Mountain Serie" ist, wird es spätestens jetzt! Mit Herz, Charme, Witz und Gefühl erzählt Virginia Fox eine weitere Geschichte, direkt aus dem regsamen Stadtleben von Independence.

Book four in the Rocky Mountain series and you definitely should read the other books first !!!
I always love when the author mention characters from previous books in the story!!!
Paula and Nate’s story was so good!!! It starts like fun … but what if it turns into something different ??
Two people that from previous books don’t really get along facing forced proximity and mutual attraction … what more could you ask for ??
And when children or kids in general are involved … I am a loser !!!
Sweet and a little complicated romance about feelings to share but trusting each other when it has been easier to do it all alone. While also trying to make a home for a teenager !!!
Paula and Nate have the power to be my favourite couple so far in this series!!!
Too soon to talk !!! We’ll figure that out once I read book five of this kind, sweet and romantic small town romances !!!

Life has been hard on Leslie. Separated from her family and put in the system at a very young age she was tossed from foster home to foster home causing a lot of trauma and pain. Living with Paula and with news of officially being adopted there is only one hurdle that is in her way preventing her to fully get used to her new life in Independence and that’s testifying against her former foster parents who abused her. freelance writer Paige is stuck in Independence looking for her next story which so happens to be the tale of a lady who saved an unfortunate teen from a miserable life. It was perfect and just the right story to get back on her feet, but dealing with the Carter family proves to be a challenge. Meanwhile Paula is adjusting to being a mother to a teenager and finds help and support from an unlikely source - the new vet in town whose daughter gets alone great with Leslie.
I kind of read these books out of order but I like that I didn’t have to read through the previous books to understand what’s going on. It could definitely be a stand alone book which is something that you don’t see often. I really loved Paula’s character because I can really relate. If you love the small town story setting with a bit of romance sprinkled into the mix then this book and series is definitely for you.

This is a super cute read full of drama and lots of animals! If you love ranch romances, definitely add this to your list! I loved how Nate and Paula slowly fell for each other over the course of the book. They were adorable! And I liked that Paige also found some love of her own in the form of the fire chief. I am excited to see how this story continues! I also want to try all of the yummy recipes included in the back of the book!

Paula haben wir jetzt schon etwas näher kennengelernt. Außerdem wissen wir genau warum sie nicht gut auf den Tierarzt Nate zu sprechen ist. Leslie haben wir auch schon kennengelernt. Die drei spielen die Hauptrollen in dieser Geschichte. In der es nicht nur um eine Liebesgeschichte zwischen Paula und Nate, sondern auch um Leslie. Sie ein auch ein Teil der Geschichte. Die Liebesgeschichte ist süß und die Geschichte rund um Leslie ist aufreibend und auch humorvoll. In diesem Band wurde ich sehr emotional eingebunden und konnte das Buch kaum weglegen. Es hat mich gefesselt, da ich einiges wissen wollte. Mehr erfahren, was hier auf uns zukommen. Den ein oder anderen Charakter lernen wir dabei auch näher kennen. Alte Bekannte tauchen auch wieder auf, die ganze Stadt eigentlich. Man kommt hier nicht herum, ohne das jemand alte Bekanntes auftaucht. Was mir total gefällt. Dieses Band hat mich wirklich mitgenommen und auch zum Nachdenken gebracht.

Nate und Paula da war ich schon gespannt drauf.
Grad wegen Band 2 war ich neugierig wie es um die beiden bestellt ist.

Aber es geht nicht nur um Nate und Paula sondern auch um Leslie. Und grad ihre Geschichte war spannend gemacht. Endlich sind alle Fragen beantwortet.
Was Leslie alles schon erlebt hat, da erweicht jedes Herz.
Man lernt wieder ein paar neue Charaktere kennen, das heißt dann wohl wieder das sich da wer gefunden hat ohne es zu wissen.
Allgemein hat mir die Geschichte im Großen und Ganzen gefallen, nur hat diesmal etwas die Chemie und der Charm zwischen den beiden Protagonisten gefehlt. Dabei war hier sehr gutes Potenzial gewesen.
Ich bin aber schon gespannt wie es weiter mit den Menschen in Independence geht. Irgendwie bleibt es immer spannend.

I’m enjoying the Rocky Mountain series and love returning to Independence, a wonderful town full of heart!
This book can be read as a stand-alone, however, it’s great to revisit some of the characters. This time we hope that Paula and Nate will realise their feelings for each other are solid!
The storyline has its share of angst, country feels and cute animals. Paula and Nate’s journey is well worth the read!

Virginia Fox is back again with a heart warming read, full of romance, spice and sweetness.

It was a quick read, I sometimes got tired of waiting for the climax scene to happen, but overall I really liked it. The side characters are great as always.

I’m enjoying this series...

I’ve enjoyed each book in the Rocky Mountain Romances, thus far. Entertaining stories, but where was the editor for Book 4? The characters’ names were mixed up, scenes were out of sequence; this was a confusing read. I plan to read the remainder of the series so I hope the editing improves.

I'm finding the citizens of Independence growing on me as I read each of these books. Paula is a very strong character so to finally see her falling for the new Vet in town is heart-warming. Through in the run away she is trying to adopt and the Vets daughter and there's an overload of emotions. There is also a helping of drama on two fronts to keep things grounded.

I really liked the story, however the editing sucked. The entire beginning talked about Tyler as a guy. Granted, I didn't read the book prior, bit didn't think there would have been a sex change operation in a book that wasn't focused on Tyler. Then, Tyler became a sister again, later to become a dude again, and finally ended up being a sister. That wasn't the only issue with editing.

Rocky Mountain Kid is the latest release in the Rocky Mountain Romances series by Virginia Fox. This one is the story of Paula and Nate. I liked some parts of the story, but overall not so much. I think part of it is because of the fact that parts of sentences were missing on about every other page, which made it hard to follow the story. Sometimes you could figure out what was missing, but then there were other times where you were like what just happened. I also think that because I didn’t love the main characters, I wasn’t too invested in their story.
So unfortunately this will probably be the last of the Rocky Mountain Romance books for me, which is sad because I really liked the first book.

Rocky Mountain Kid by Virginia Fox is book four in the Rocky Mountain Romances series. Though part of a series, it reads as a standalone.

Local rancher, Paula, and new veterinarian, Nate, embark on a tentative acquaintanceship but are interrupted by life’s circumstances. They want to, but can’t seem to get their plans together.

This is a good read with interesting characters and plot. A touch of humor and dogs add that special something. There’s romantic engagement throughout. Overall, I enjoyed Rocky Mountain Kid, rate it 4 out of 5 stars, and recommend it to all readers of contemporary romance.

Bereits in den vergangenen Bänden der Rocky Mountain-Serie von Virginia Fox hat man am Rande etwas von Paulas und Leslies Geschichte erleben dürfen. Nun, in Band vier, ist es endlich soweit. In „Rocky Mountain Kid“ wird die Geschichte der beiden erzählt. Es geht sowohl um die Bindung zwischen Paula und Leslie, die langsam lernen sich gegenseitig zu vertrauen und Gefühle zeigen zu dürfen, ohne gravierende Konsequenzen befürchten zu müssen. Aber es geht, wie nicht anders zu erwarten, auch um Paulas Liebesleben. Das ist anfangs jedoch mit einigen Augenroll-Momenten verbunden.

Paula ist eine starke Frau, die sagt und zeigt was sie will, doch in punkto Nate zunächst ganz schön beschränkt. Sehr mit der Ranch und ihrer Ziehtochter Leslie beschäftigt ist sie anfangs zu sehr eingespannt, um an ein Liebesleben zu denken. Doch sie hat wohl nicht mit Leslie und Shauna, Nates Tochter, gerechnet, die ihren ganz eigenen Plan verfolgen.

Leslie ist mit ihren dreizehn Jahren schon sehr erwachsen. Kein Wunder bei dem was sie schon alles erleben musste. Einige Male war ich ziemlich geschockt darüber, was sie in ihrem jungen Alter bereits durchgemacht hat. Doch genauso sicher war ich mir, dass durch die Tiertherapie und Paula, die sich ihr mit vollem Herzen angenommen hat, alles gut werden wird.

Der Schreibstil ist auch in diesem Band sehr flüssig und hat es mir leicht gemacht, in die Rockies abzutauchen, von der Gegend zu schwärmen und mich in alle Protagonisten hineinzuversetzen. Mit den vielen Namen und Charakteren muss man sich erstmal zurechtfinden. Aber da jeder ganz unterschiedlich ist, war das sehr leicht.

Wer bisher noch kein Buch von Virginia Fox gelesen hat, sollte das unbedingt nachholen. Man merkt einfach wie viel Herzblut in den Geschichten steckt und ich freue mich jetzt schon auf das nächste Buch.

Zunächst vielen Dank an die Autorin für die BEreitstellung des Leseexemplares für die Leserunde.

Der Einstieg ist mir durch die vielen Namen etwas schwer gefallen und ich hatte manchmal ein paar Probleme die Personen auseinander zu halten. Hier muss ich vielleicht dazu sagen, dass es mein erstes Buch der Reihe ist und ich vermute, dass es in der Reihenfolge nicht so das Problem gewesen wäre. Ich habe mich dann auch relativ schnell an alles gewöhnt.

Ich liebe Buchreihen, die in Kleinstädten spielen und man viele Personen immer mal wieder antrifft, während immer andere Paare im Vordergrund stehen. Die Rocky Mountain Serie ist eine solche Reihe und die Autorin hat die behaglische Atmosphäre wunderbar eingefangen und dies war für mich ein echtes Highlight des Buches.

Leider bin ich mit den beiden Hauptcharakteren, Paula und Nate, nicht allzu warm geworden. Besonders Paula habe ich als einen sehr distanzierten und undurchsichtigen Charakter empfunden. Ich konnte mir nicht wirklich mitfiebern, was mein Lesevergnügen etwas getrübt hat. Auch Nate blieb für meinen Geschmack etwas blass. Der Liebesgeschichte fehlte es meiner Meinung nach etwas an Chemie.

Die Geschichte um Leslie hat mir sehr gut gefallen. Sie wurde emotional und spannend erzählt. Sie hat mich sehr berührt.

Das Buch hat mich gut unterhalten und auch der Schreibstil der Autorin ist angenehm und flüssig zu lesen. Ich werde auf jeden Fall zu einem weiteren Buch der Reihe greifen und bin guter Dinge, dass mir die Bücher mit anderen Charakteren im Vordergrund noch besser gefallen wird.

Band 1 dieser Reihe hat mich ja so geflashed, dass ich mir gleich Band 2 bis 4 als Hörbuch gekauft habe. Ich habe sie in sehr kurzer Zeit (für meine Verhältnisse) gehört und nun bin ich froh, dass der nächste Teil auch schon als Hörbuch erschienen ist.
Viel möchte ich hier nicht mehr schreiben. Meine Liebe zu dieser Reihe ist ungebrochen, aber trotzdem sehe ich auch weiterhin meinen Kritikpunkt (unrealistischer Spannungsteil). Da werde ich mich aber nicht mehr zu äußern. Das habe ich zur genüge in meinem letzten Reviews getan.
In diesem Teil geht es nun um Paula und Nathan. Dies ist der Teil auf den ich mich am allermeisten gefreut habe. Paula haben wir schon seit dem ersten Band immer wieder verfolgt. Sie ist die Person, deren Leben sich durch alle bisherigen Bände gezogen hat. Hier kommt es nun zum Höhepunkt der Geschichte um sie und Leslie, dem Mädchen, dass bei ihr Zuflucht gefunden hat. Nathan, der Tierarzt, ist in dem Band der Love-Interest. Aber auch hier spielte das wieder eine sehr untergeordnete Rolle. Wer auf reine Liebesgeschichten aus ist wird hier nicht fündig. Man erlebt den Alltag in der Kleinstadt Independence und den Umgang der Bewohner untereinander. Ich liebe solche Kleinstadtgeschichten und habe immer das Gefühl die Leute richtig zu kennen. Sowas macht für mich ein Wohlfühlbuch aus und das ist auch dieses wieder (trotz seine kleinen Schwächen) gewesen.
