About the author

Leopold Staff was a Polish poet; one of the greatest artists of European modernism twice granted the Degree of Doctor honoris causa by universities in Warsaw and in Kraków. He was also nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature by Polish PEN Club. Representative of classicism and symbolism in the poetry of Young Poland, he was an author of many philosophical poems influenced by the philosophy of Friedrich Nietzsche, the ideas of Franciscan order as well as paradoxes of Christianity.
He was the main guru the for Polish group of experimental poets named Skamander.

Smuci mnie to, że wszystkim Staff kojarzy się wyłącznie z Deszczem Jesiennym przerabianym na zajęciach języka polskiego, a przecież jest tyle piękniejszych jego wierszy - choćby Bunt Jesienny, Hymn do barw, Dzieciństwo albo Czucie Niewinne. Nie wspominając już o S. Ż. napisanym po śmierci (i na cześć) Żeromskiego. Doceńcie Staffa i przeczytajcie coś więcej niż Kowala i Przedśpiew, zasługuje na to.

One of the best love verses ever written; full of passion, wit, spiritual vastness and talent.
Moving as some of Byron's, Wordsworth and Keat's romantic poems.
I recommend them to all of you, sensitive and ...sensible readers all around the globe. I know what I am saying sisters and brothers, as I write poetry myself....

Ja nawet nie wiem co napisać żeby wyrazić moja miłość do Staffa. Kocham każdy wiersz, wiele znam na pamięć a obserwowanie dorastania Staffa jako poety jest cudownym doświadczeniem. Zbiór ten leży na moim stoliku nocnym i wrócę doń nie raz nie dwa.
