Julep Maddox wants one to launch her dental practice. In her a hot-mess of a secretary, a delicious distraction named Andrew, oh, and also... the mob. Now instead of focusing on her business, she's doing j-turns in the middle of the night, using dental floss as a weapon, and hiding in a strange bathroom to solve a kidnapping. What else could possibly go wrong? Previously published under the author name, Eryn Scott.
Okay, I LOVED Scott's Sunny Skies book— so my expectations were high — but this one did not disappoint! Seriously laugh-out-loud funny. The romance was sweet and clean, but the characters were very relatable (you know, if you ever got in a kerfuffle with the mob…). Sometimes the mood strikes for a high intensity thriller, or something totally sexy— but other times I want a romantic comedy (the sort J Lo or Reese Witherspoon would star in), a book that makes me smile and laugh and just enjoy myself. This is that book.
I wanted to love it but I just didn't. It was wayyy over the top and that can be fun. It just wasn't working for me. I also thing the MC was a little mean and I wasn't feeling it.
I was given this audio book in exchange for an honest review. This book was just funny from the beginning. I love things that make me laugh and I loved this book. This is the story of Julep, a young woman getting ready to set up her own dental practice. Her life is turning out to be quite interesting. She meets a really yummy guy who can't take his eyes off of her. Turns out she has a painted mustache she wasn't aware of. They develop a relationship that is a friends only relationship with a tinge of something more. It's difficult to believe any more of a relationship could develop with the craziness that is her life. I don't want to give anything away, but try to imagine Celine Dion, hair dye, cops on the take, tanning solution, dental floss and mobsters all in one story, It was light, funny and so entertaining! By now you know I liked the story, but the narration was just as good. Alissa Zea did a great job with the pacing, the voices and the overall craziness!
I'll be honest right now, I picked this book off of bookbub.com.... just for the look of the cover alone. I did not expect what lay inside these pages. Jules and Emma are opening their own dental practice, with a few coats of paint, a lot of coffee and a hot mess of a secretary. But they don't expect what comes with this odd secretary Kaylee. Shh. That includes her US Marshal Andrew, who has eyes for Julep Maddox. Light, action packed read, but could have used more detail and less "I'm dreaming of his lips".
I did a fairly quick skim through this one. It was not up to my standards. The language is terrible. However, I love Jule's close relationship with her brother, Joel, but wish the author had gone a different direction with him.
Cute but lame. A totally unbelievable plot pulls a group of shifty characters thru the story but doesn't generate enough humor to pull it off. This seems like a Stephanie Plum wannabe that falls very flat.
I really wanted to like it, but I was bored more often than not. I found myself skimming a lot, and even skipping full paragraphs and pages. There wasn't enough relationship development to have a romance. I just wasn't feeling it.
Julep is in the midst of launching her first business – a dentist’s office. Everything is going to plan until it isn’t.
The characters were not that interesting. I didn’t feel very invested in them or the outcome of their relationships. I did not relate to them or care what happened to them. They felt flat and with very little depth. The main character’s thoughts were too surface level and there was too much inner monologuing and speaking directly to the reader.
I wanted more action and less telling. Even with what little was going on (there was a definitive beginning, middle, and end) I just didn’t feel engaged in the story. There didn’t seem to be much going on in the beginning half of the story and by the time the main plot was revealed, I just didn’t care. It was cliche, not very well thought out, and not very well written. It didn’t feel like there were any stakes in the first half and by the time there were stakes, they didn’t feel believable.
Kaylee and the way she was written annoyed me the most. She didn’t feel realistic. It seemed like she was the glue holding the plot together amidst this laughable romance between Andrew and Julep. I wouldn’t have finished if I wasn’t reading a physical book.
I loved the premise of the book but the execution fell far short.
This is a silly book. One woman helps another who is in trouble. The likelihood of anything in this book ever happening is slim to none. The further you get into the book the more unrealistic it becomes. The situations these women get into are at times funny, yet not plausible. The more I read the more I continued to think: "This would never happen! How dumb are these characters?" Despite the plausibility of the situations the characters are in, it's still a light and funny read. Of course the ending is happy.
It was definitely an easy read. This is a story of a dentist girl who just started her own dental practice with her best friend, happen to hire a accident prone girl as receptionist without knowing that she was in witness protection, with a Marshall to keep her safe from the Russian mob who wants to assassinate her. I loved the characters and ways in which they are presented. Career centric, daddy's girl Jules; her friend Em who just hit me as a sort of person who is super spontaneous and super fun to be friends with; Kaylee, the cute innocent receptionist girl who has her way with people and crazy enough mind to sing along with Avril Lavigne songs (as if no one is looking at her); and Andrew the perfect man. The main thing which impressed me while reading this book is the close bonding Jules has with her family. I felt nice whenever Jules quotes her mom or dad, because I do that all the time. This book didn't have a very impressive story line or anything much to offer to me which I always search in any book I read. But it is sort of a one time-feel good sort of book to read.

This book was a very entertaining, quick read. Jules was a very likable character. I really loved the way she talked about her family. These characters came alive to me. I think the only complaint I have is some of the descriptions were just a little too intense. I felt it was just a bit overdone. I know where the author was coming from and still enjoyed the story, I just felt some of the elbow squeezes, squinting eyes, and gesturing could have been left out. Maybe she could have given a little more background on the town. I love thinking about the places the characters live. The descriptions of buildings, a little history, families in the area would have been nice. The narrator was excellent. She did an excellent job with every voice. I hope I can hear other books narrated by her again. This audiobook was provided by the author, narrator, or publisher at no cost in exchange for an unbiased review courtesy of Audiobook Blast.
I'm always nervous when I listen to the second book from an author I've recently discovered, nervous because I'm not sure if the book will live up to my expectations. I needn't have worried, it's clear I just enjoy the way Eryn tells a story!
This book is a combination of comedy and mystery, Julep is opening a dental practice but she has a couple of complications, one is Andrew who "helps" her out when she needs to quickly hire a receptionist. The second complication is Kaylee the ditzy receptionist that Andrew referred, a very strange, Celine Dion singing girl who can't even seem to remember where she hails from, let the comedy begin!
This quirky little feel good book has plenty of laugh out loud moments, it's categorized under romance, but in actuality, there's very little romance, it's more of a chick-lit mystery if you ask my opinion. It matters not one bit, it's all good fun!
A literate example of the genre, dusting you its humour and original turn of phrase. The characters are notably individual. And the mystery could be described as cozy. It's not as memorable for me as the story of Sunny Skies, with had greater depth in its exploration of the crippling experience of anxiety and how Sunny overcomes it. But Jules is a well rounded character with her own idiosyncrasies. A fun read.
This was a cute, light little story that made for a fun read. I like the protagonist and love interest and all the characters in between. I liked the uniqueness in the plot with Kaylee. What I didn't like: copy editing errors and the insta-love factor, especially with the way the love story ended. I think it would have been better to just leave that part out. Still, cute story.
The book started slowly for me, but by the last part of the book I was enjoying each of the characters and their respective idiosyncrasies. I also enjoyed the humor in the story. A good fun, light read.
I really enjoyed this book. Girl power! The humor was great. The only thing that stopped it from getting 5 stars from me was the random typos. There weren't many, but I'm trained to catch them and it bothered me. Other than that, a good read indeed!
This is such a cute story and FUNNY!! I laughed just picturing some of the things these girls did. Hard to put down because I couldn't wait to see what was next!
An awesome romance with twists and turns you don't expect everywhere in the story. Very cute throughout the story. A real page Turner I couldn't put it down.
