“If you want to run with me, you'll have to keep up.” New shifter Levi Lopez has spent the past year running from his animal side, afraid of the power that lies within. He finally agrees to move to New York City to be closer to his brother, Rain, another werewolf and an alpha of his own pack. Once he meets the rugged and dangerous Lucas, a fire is ignited inside that he never expected. An alpha from another pack is so off-limits it's not even funny... unless they're truly meant to be mates.
The tough, take-no-prisoners style of lone alpha Lucas Pierce has won him loyal pack members but no one to call his mate. He has plenty to give but no one to give it to, and his fear of vulnerability doesn't help. It's easier to be stubborn and reckless, pretending not to be jealous of his twin brother Paxton's relationship with his new mate. Is he meant to be a lone wolf for the rest of his days?
When the stunning Levi walks into Lucas' life, Lucas sees his hope for the future. They can't keep their hands off each other despite the danger: Levi is the omega of another pack. They must tread carefully to explore their desires, but a possible rift between their packs is soon to become the least of their problems. They aren't the only wolves in the city, and not all wolves want to coexist peacefully with humanity. Are they doomed to die in the name of humanity, or will the wolf inside protect all they hold dear... including each other?
Prowl is the second and last steamy gay paranormal romance novel in "The Pierce Brothers" series.
C.A. Taylor has been writing gay romance titles since 2013. Although she started her career writing mostly gay erotica short stories, she has made the move to exclusively writing longer works of gay romance. She mainly focuses on the hot and dangerous paranormal realm where sexy shifters rule supreme. Her stories revolve around dramatic tension, passionate encounters, and happy endings in a lover's embrace.
This was a solid "liked it". I really liked the (admitted quick) development of Levi and Lucas's relationship and liked each of them as a character. There is plenty of sex with a light dom/sub flavor and some light spanking. One thing I really didn't like is how the word "mate" is used in this series; I'm never sure if they mean mates like all other shifter stories do (for life, bonded) or just boyfriends. In the first book, Paxton even says that Lucas has had "mates" before and they never worked out. In this book Henry is finally moving in with Paxton after six months as "mates".
The other thing that kept me from liking the book more is something that was a problem with the first one as well. There's this big buildup, big stuff goes down, and yet there seems to be a lot left unresolved. I assumed that the questions left from the first book would be answered here but that didn't really seem to be the case.
So I would read another one or something else by this author but this won't be one of my re-reads.
I went into this book fully expecting to not get far. And yet, not only did I finish it, I liked it. Not loved, mind you, but a solid like.
Book 2 in a series, but held well as a standalone. Turns out this is the second time I've done this for this author. (Read one of the step brother books)
Lucas (brother of book 1 MC Paxton) falls for the younger brother of ally pack. Levi is still fairly new as a wolf, becoming one by accident. Lucas is helping wolves train to be better fighters when they learn of a new threat.
Interesting storyline, although basic. Some errors that might have bothered me if I'd been expecting greatness. But, oh dear, I've a new pet peeve: calling a cock a chunk of meat. Ugh.
There is nothing exactly "wrong" in this light (very, very light) work, beside a couple of typos. The problem is that every situation and every feeling are explained as if the readers were too unexperienced to understand the implications of every simple exchange. That and the obsession for rather unimaginative sex scenes do not help and this read is easily boxed in the "not ugly but surely forgettable" category.
I liked the werewolf packs and action parts of this story, and I also liked the characters. I think I enjoyed this one more than the first story in this series. 3.5 stars for me!
