Yo no sé si la autora tiene alguna clase de fetiche con los vaqueros pero esto ya llega a niveles absurdos.
El clima navideño, con una cabaña, nieve, etc es perfecto y Jaime salva toda la historia.
Porque si dejamos de lado al niño de 5 años, los personajes son aburridos y cliché: el hombre rudo que reprime sus sentimientos por un trauma (que ni siquiera es tan profundo, sabes); la mujer "desamparada" (palabras suyas, no mías) y tímida que se tiene que hacer cargo de su sobrino; y la madre de Riley que es todo lo contrario a él.
Encima de eso, es súper machista, y Riley se la pasa comparando a su ex con Beth y de las peores maneras (que comparar ya está mal, pero es inveitable, pero que compare cuan "sexy" "atrevida" etc es, wey ninguna es un pedazo de carne ya para).
El clima navideño, con una cabaña, nieve, etc es perfecto y Jaime salva toda la historia.

This is an absolutely adorable, perfect little confection of fluff, and a heart-warming holiday read.
Beth Cavell is alone in the world, except for her nephew, Jamie. She's always lived in the shadow of her vivacious sister, Penny, and was not prepared for the universe to take Penny away, leaving her as the only adult in her five-year-old nephew's life. She does the best that she can for him, but he has taken his mother's death hard. He clings to his Buddy Bear, and asks Santa for only two things that Christmas: snow, and a father.
Beth does her best to deliver on that first promise. She rents a cabin in Canada for the Christmas holiday, hoping the promise of snow will be enough to rid Jamie of the longing for a male influence in his life. Then they arrive at the airport - and find a tall, dark, handsome cowboy waiting for them.
Riley Keenan is not at all happy that his mother has rented his hunting lodge to a pair of Arizona sunbirds at the last minute. He is not a fan of Christmas and has no patience for people who are unused to the wilds of the mountains in Calgary. He's even less impressed when he ferries Beth and Jamie to said cabin, only to discover that his mother has decked it out to look like something out of a winter fairy tale. He tells himself that he's fine with leaving them there for the week, but he's not the kind of man who can just walk away, even from strangers. A good thing, too, because Beth almost manages to set the cabin on fire the next morning, unused to working with the propane fixtures.
A huge snowstorm blows up, and Riley rather reluctantly goes back to the cabin, reluctantly allows himself to get sucked into the magic of their Christmas, and falls for both Beth and Jamie's innocent charms. He decides to give himself a break and let himself be a kid again, helping them enjoy the fun that comes with a big snowstorm in the mountains. Relaxing his guard lets Beth relax hers, and raises Jamie's hopes that Riley is the father that Santa has sent him.
It all goes a little pear-shaped when Jamie confides this deepest wish to Riley, and suddenly he and Beth discover they have a choice to make: they can keep running from their fears, or they can take a chance together to work past those fears.
This is a very sweet story (kisses only), the perfect combination of id-delighting tropes and cheesy goodness. Jamie is absolutely adorable, a perfect little plot moppet. I love the snowed-in trope, and the idea of an icicle slowly melting, rather against its will. The ending is a bit much, but what else can you expect from an HQN Christmas novella? This is a light, fluffy, amusing read, perfect for stirring up your holiday spirit.

1.5 estrellas
Que mal comienza esta época de libros navideños.
Sinopsis:
El sobrino huérfano de Beth Cavell sólo quería dos regalos de Navidad: nieve… ¡y un papá! ¿Qué debía hacer una buena tía como ella? Por de pronto alquilaría una cabaña en medio de la hermosa naturaleza de Canadá… Allí fue donde encontró a Riley Keenan, que sentía la misma simpatía por la Navidad que por los niños y sus tías; es decir, ninguna. Pero poco a poco, la encantadora Beth y su sobrino estaban consiguiendo ablandarle el corazón. Y entonces empezó a caer la nieve. ¿Se cumpliría también el segundo deseo de Jamie?
Si bien no me esperaba una gran obra de arte, por lo menos quería leer algo cute, que me hiciera sonrojar, chillar, llorar, LO QUE SEA. Y oigan, sí lloré, pero de rabia.
Partamos por los puntos buenos:
1. Hay momentos que genuinamente me parecieron bonitos.
2. Sentí real la relación de Beth y Jamie.
Puntos malos:
1. Primeras opiniones al conocerse.
"Era el tipo de mujer que removía los instintos protectores de un hombre. Parecía muy vulnerable, tan vulnerable como un gatito". Esto es lo primero que piensa Riley al ver a Beth, por favor, odio con toda mi alma los libros en donde ellos tienen algún tipo de sentimiento de protección solo por ver a una mujer 'vulnerable'. Lo peor es que a lo largo del libro él hace mención de que "parece una niña", IGH.
Solo lean el siguiente párrafo: "Una mujer hecha para estar en los brazos de un hombre". Guacala.
"Y lo que era peor: se sintió, momentáneamente, incapaz de apartar la mirada. Era tan fuerte y decidido…
«Y tan sexy», le dijo una voz interior". Esto es lo primero que pensó Beth al ver a Riley. Acaso siempre, todos, absolutamente todos los personajes deben ser sexys, hot o lindos? Me molesta que a lo largo del libro Beth haga mención una y otra y otra y otra vez de lo bueno que está Riley. Si, Beth, ya entendimos que Riley está bueno y que vos (aparentemente) nunca viste a un hombre musculoso y actúas como una virgen (sin ánimos de ofender a mis amigas vírgenes). Aunque pensándolo mejor, Beth parece un hombre virgo que jamás tocó a una mujer y cuando ve un poco del cuerpo femenino por poco termina. (Así de asqueroso).
Beth pensando en Riley:
"Aquel hombre era tan endiabladamente sexy que cortaba la respiración"
"Se preguntó si Santa Claus tendría sentido del humor. Realmente, aquello era injusto. Que ella se quedara atrapada en aquella preciosa cabaña con el hombre más sexy que había conocido y al que no le gustaba la Navidad ni nada relacionado con ella".
Lo único que debo de agradecer es que él no la ve como un objeto sexual.
2. Las constantes comparaciones.
Riley comparando a Beth con Alicia (su ex-prometida):
"Beth todavía estaba sonriendo como una niña pequeña. Para conseguir una sonrisa así de Alicia habría hecho falta un anillo con un gran pedrusco".
"Riley pensó que Beth era todo lo contrario a Alicia. Y no sólo en la superficie.
A Alicia le encantaba el maquillaje. La cara de Beth estaba como recién lavada. Alicia llevaba el pelo teñido de rubio platino".
"Alicia se vestía muy provocativa. Beth vestía como una de esas monjas que no llevan hábito".
"Una mujer que no se preocupaba por el peso. Eso era bastante refrescante después de Alicia, que contaba las calorías como si le fuera la vida en ello".
"No, no era el tipo de belleza de Alicia. No había ningún maquillaje, nada artificial".
Y seguro que hay más que sin querer los pasé por encima. Ah, por donde empezar con este punto.
Con tantas comparaciones entre ambas mujeres (bellísimas las dos por cierto), solo sentí que Riley en ningún momento superó a Alicia. Habían pasado ya casi SEIS AÑOS desde que se separaron y él aún estaba dale y dale con que Alicia era esto y Beth aquello. Riley, #evoluciona #crece #supera. Agradezco al cielo que Alicia te haya chutado.
No me gustaron, no me gustan y nunca me gustaran las comparaciones entre ex parejas y pajeras actuales. Beth hizo algún que otro comentario comparando a Sam (su ex) con Riley, pero JAMÁS comparó físico o estilos de vida, solo la forma en que él la trataba y como Riley la trata, no se me hizo tan pesada como su pesado novio.
3. El tremendo insta love.
DIOS MÍO, MATANTE. Ellos convivieron 3 DÍAS JUNTOS, 3 PUTOS DÍAS. Y oigan, yo creo en el poder de la navidad (en los libros) y me encanta el cliché de enamorarse en época navideñas por la magia de la navidad, pero esta mamarrachada fue una lectura nefasta.
Beth dice (AL 2DO O TERCER DÍA DE CONOCERSE):
"Beth quería decirle a Jamie que no fuera tonto, pero ella sentía lo mismo. Sentía su ausencia casi con la misma intensidad con la que había sentido su presencia"
"Podía sentir que el corazón se le hinchaba en el pecho, como si amar a Riley fuera demasiado para él"
SIDE EYES. Pareciera que Beth nunca tuvo amor paternal. Y oigan, yo tampoco tengo papá, pero lanzarme a los brazos del primer pelotudo que me trata bien????? Algo de amor propio, Beth, please.
"Ahora, que por primera vez conocía el amor, no supo qué hacer cuando Riley entró en la habitación"
Yo simplemente no puedo con el amor que se da así, sin transición.
No fue tipo: No te conozco> te voy conociendo> me interesas> me gustas> te quiero> te amo.
Fue más del tipo: No te conozco> te quiero llevar a la cama> te amo.
Halo??
Pero sin duda, las frases más memorables del libro son las siguientes tres (dichas por el galán caballeroso, el mejor interés amoroso que jamás halla escrito una mujer... Riley)
"Riley, de repente, vio muy claro por qué los niños debían tener un padre y una madre. Porque por muy buena que fuera Beth como madre, tenía la tendencia de explicarlo todo, de aprovechar cualquier oportunidad para enseñar. A veces un niño necesitaba un jefe".
"—Como vuelvas a hacer algo así te doy un azote".
Se lo dice al hijo adoptivo de la protagonista que, repito, CONOCE HACE DOS DÍAS Y MEDIO, casi tres.
Al inicio admito que le tuve fe a la novela, sabía que no iba a ser un 5 estrellas, pero quizás un 3 o 4 estrellas. La sinopsis me había llamado la atención y pintaba para bien las primeras páginas, pero ahora sé que fue un muy muy muuuy mala decisión. Espero jamás tener que leer otro libro de la autora :)
Pd: La relación entre Jamie y Beth fue muy bonita 💘

Cute Xmas romance. The premise is the newly guardian aunt of her five year old nephew wants to give him the snowy Christmas that he dreams of so she rents a cabin in Canada. The owner of the cabin found out last minute that his mother, who is going away for Christmas, rented it for Christmas. Riley is the owner is none to pleased about this eventuality. The cabin is powered by propane and a wood burning stove. The toilet, however, is outside in an out house. The biggest snow storm of the century is about to descend on them. The Aunt, Beth, does not want to leave with her nephew, Jamie, to go to a bed and breakfast to wait out the storm. The outhouse is never ever mentioned again in the book. Now this is all I could think about, if there is a foot or more of snow how are you getting to the outhouse? When they wake up the first thing you need to do is bundle up to go to the outhouse. What about at night and you have to go? So the whole outhouse was distracting because that would have been a hard pass for me, snow or no snow. I did love the fact that someone wrote "wonderful" in my version of the book inside the cover. Obviously the outhouse didn't mean diddly squat to them and they just loved the Christmas romance of the story.

Una historia típica navideña, bien argumentada y ambientada, en la que solo hay 3 personajes, siendo uno de ellos quien lleva el peso argumental.
Jamie es un niño que vive con su tía Beth, ambos llevan una vida tranquila hasta que el niño decide escribir a Papá Nöel y hacerle una petición un tanto especial para su tía, ella lee la carta para ver que es lo que tanto intriga al niño, y decide intentar regalarle todo lo que pone, por ello se trasladan a un pueblecito de Canadá donde todos los años nieva en gran cantidad. Al llegar al pueblo, se llevan una sorpresa por qué en vez de una adorable anciana, les está esperando un aguerrido vaquero. Riley, no los quiere en su casa, pero no quiere entristecer a su madre por lo que los acepta con la condición de llevarles y desaparecer.
Me ha gustado como establece la relación entre Riley y Jamie, como poco a poco ambos van encajando y eso hace que Riley comience a plantearse cosas que tenía guardadas y olvidadas. La relación en cambio con Beth es más tirante, distante, pero gracias al niño se va produciendo el cambio.

I loved this book. The characters were well-developed, and ones that you loved and felt you knew intimately by the end of the book. I was a little worried that I might not like the hero, with his "bah, humbug" attitude, but he did change by the end of the book. Also, he had a good reason for feeling the way he did. Also, the character of the little boy was well sketched. He always felt like more than just a flat plot device. And he was so cute! He made my heart melt.
I really liked how the author brought together two wounded souls. Both were tortured characters, yet this wasn't an angst-riddled book. I found it so wonderfully uplifting. And so moving, which is really impressive, given that the author had less than 200 pages to work with. I actually had tears in my eyes at the end of the book--it was that touching. I just loved watching how the hero feel in love with the heroine (and Jamie), even when he was fighting against it.
While the story takes course over the place of just a few days, it never felt rushed. The romance felt real to me. And I really liked that while the hero and heroine were sexually attracted to one another, it wasn't the only thing drawing them together. They also didn't just blindly fall into bed, either. In fact, the hero was so honorable that he refuses to take advantage of the heroine when he has the opportunity. There's no sex in this book--not even implied. And it doesn't need it at all. It's a sweet, touching Christmas story, exactly the kind of book I like to read.
I also really liked that the Christmas aspect of this story was woven throughout the plot. It didn't feel like something tacked on to boost sales.
I don't usually like Harlequin romances that much (usually they're too rushed or cliched) but this book is a keeper!

The great combination of the love and trust and the ability to overcome builds to an incredible story. The letters from heaven that the snow flakes represent is very sweet. The ability to be a hero and realize that miracles are all around if you open yourself up to them makes this a very heart-rendering story.

This is one of the nicest Christmas based stories I've read in a while. The story touches one's heart in so many ways. Truly there's a Santa Claus in each of our hearts.
