Farmer Ben loves his life. But farm life is not simple. It's strenuous work. This book could convince more than a few readers that farm life is wholesome and sweet. I don't dismiss this story. The Berenstain Bears carry the intention of endearing readers.

There is no allure for me to work on a farm.

One of my nephews is starting to read, but this one will have to wait.

The rhymes make for odd word choices for a first reader. For example:

There's Ben's farm just up ahead.
As you can see it is quite a spread.

"quite a spread" -- a couple of tough words to read and to understand

Near the end, Brother asks, "Is farming hard or is it fun?"
The answer is a nice way to conclude the story.

The book is about a family that is farmers that grown many things. I goes through some of the necessities that keeps the farm going. The kids ask their father about many things on the farm and the father explains them. They then enter family dinner and continue asking about farming. This book is mainly about the life of a farm and what it consist of. I think this book is good for kids who are interested in farming and want to know more about farming.

The Berenstain Bears were a part of my childhood, so I love it that I can start sharing some of the books with Lily.

This one introduces the idea of a farm and where our food comes from. I like it that it's one of the few books Lily has that includes characters eating fruits and vegetables.

Also, I'm not one to necessarily idolize hard work for its own sake, but I do like it that Farmer Ben explains that their work is hard, but also fun. Hard work doesn't have to be boring.

I liked reading this book. This book told kids a little about farm life. This is a good book for beginner readers. This is also an AR book for anyone who might want to know. I would recommend this book to others.

Nothing but this one quote:

"Well, yes, it is hard,
but we love it, son,
so I guess you might say
farming's hard fun."

All of the words are in rhyme and they'll get stuck in your head. The story is really boring. They never use "and" even when they're making a list.

Why am I so certain that, even though all these bears have lovely bronze fur, every single one of them is Caucasian?

Why does it rhyme?

There's no story. The narrative is weird and wordy. It's awful in every way.

This is really great. My only/big complaint is that Farmer Ben's wife is referred to as Mrs. Ben. Nope. She has a name. Refer to her by her own name. Do not send girls that message.

I liked the farm portrayal in this book. It shows an old fashioned style family farm in standard picture book style, but does hint at the fact that many modern farms look different than this.

This was a fabulous children's book to help explain how a farm runs! It is a Berenstain Bears book, however they aren't really the main charactors only referred to them a few times which wasn't bad either. But if you are looking for a 'true' Berenstain Bear's book this isn't it. However, they do go and visit their neighbor Farmer and Mrs. Ben. Mr Ben help explain how the farm works and what all is involved with a farm. Personlly we live on a farm and Stan & Jan Berenstain did a wonderful job with this book to help explain to children in a nice way about farms and the animals there. Truly a great book.
