It would be a lot easier to hate the man holding me captive if he was nothing but the monster he appears to be, but there are so many other parts of him that intrigue me. His softer side that he keeps hidden from world. That fascinating mind so much like my own. A tender touch that comes out of nowhere accompanied by a sudden vulnerability in his pale blue eyes. Maybe even a good heart beating behind that solid chest I can't stop picturing every time I see him in one of his well-tailored suits. The longer he has me in his grasp, the more I want to know.
Just because he saved my life doesn't mean he owns me. He can't keep me locked in here forever. He's not allowed to touch me any way he wants. It doesn't matter how much money he has, this is still illegal. Even when I kind of like it. I guess Shane plays by a different set of rules.
Maybe I truly do belong to him. But that doesn't mean I'll ever stop trying to escape.
I found this book on Kindle Unlimited and it sounded like a really good, dark romance. At the end of the day, it was good, but not what I had expected. The story wasn't very dark, with a few dark-"ish", softer scenes. It played in the gray areas between dark and light a few times, but mostly is was pretty tame.
Shane "repossesses" Zoey one night from a ruthless crime lord. It turns out that Zoey got lucky, narrowly avoiding having her virginity auctioned off to pay for her best-friend's drug debt. Obviously, Zoey was kind-hearted and incredibly naive, thereby landing her in that situation.
Shane had grown up a foster child, like Zoey. Although they both suffered some incredible hardships at an early age, their situations couldn't have been more different. Shane found himself financially set for life, a business mogul by his late twenties, while Zoey still struggles from day to day, working two jobs while going to college part-time.
When Shane sees Zoey up on that stage, he recognizes her as the baby girl from his past. She has no recollection of Him, beyond his attempts to flirt with her earlier that week at a construction site she was walking past. Now that Shane has her, he has no intention of letting her go again.
Essentially, he holds her hostage in his luxury high rise apartment. They flirt and slowly grow closer. Every once in awhile Zoey would test her limits, prompting a retaliatory BDSM scene so that Shane could reestablish his sense of control. Then, he'd feel remorseful for letting her push him too far. She'd feel bad for pushing him so far. Rinse. Repeat. You've got the idea.
Overall, I did enjoy the story. It was very slow to get going and I think it could have been condensed a bit more, but it was still pretty good. If you lose interest quickly, or need a fast-paced story, this definitely won't be for you. If you're willing to hang in there for a slow-moving, but steady, story, this might be one to try.
DNF @ 26%. I knew I needed to move on when I constantly was doing other random things instead of reading. I found it really hard to get into. There were a lot of what I think might've been hints towards big reveals later, but they just ended up being confusing. I was just bored. I couldn't understand either the h or the H's motives, so they were pretty impossible to relate to. It might be one of those books that later on things will all click into place, but I wasn't feeling it enough to keep going.
This is nothing, it's just nothing. It's words on a page and they don't mean a thing. Maybe in the 1st couple pages you think this could be good but then it's morphs right into the nothing story I just read. It wasn't interesting, it wasn't new. If only I could give this 0 stars I would. I know this isn't descriptive of the book but when I say it was like reading nothing I mean it there is no story to describe, it's just nonsense.
Ever heard the saying a little too late? That was this book. I did not understand half of the first part or the book, the sentences were just all over the place. Half didn't make since and I spent most of my time rereading sentences over and over again until I gave up and moved on. The last few chapters where everything came together was pretty good but ehh.. Nothing to write home about. I didn't hate it nor did I love it, it was there. Something to read, ya know!
Wow. What a great story! Shane and Zoey are equally intriguing characters. Shane's manic tendencies kind of make his character a little funny at times. But his ability to make Zoey feel beautiful and flawless is really where he grabbed my heart, sure, he's a certified nut-case with some of the things he does to Zoey, but they work together.
Zoey is one of my favorite female characters in a long time. She's brave, although inwardly she has many insecurities, he ability to project confidence is amazing. What I love most is that she stands up for herself with Shane. She doesn't deny she dislikes everything he does, but for her to love and trust to be honest at what she doesn't like gets her high marks in my review.
Hostages go home when the ransom is paid. Zoey isn't a hostage.
Captor doesn't stick to the typical story lines for BDSM or dark/gray stories, and I liked that. It means that scenes aren't interchangeable with other books with this kind of cover photo.
In some ways it’s darker and in others, it’s sweeter, but don’t mistake it for a “sweet romance.” Shane and his brothers are actually violent, and Zoey really is a captive.
The background information is hinted at and slowly revealed. We learn Shane and Zoey’s story and a little about the brothers, who will hopefully get their own books. Even though this is a standalone, it could easily be the first in a series.
This story was a lot deeper than I thought it would be. Unfortunately, I had no idea what was going on. The H and h have history but I still don't understand what it was. Plus, why was the reason for the h's scars kept a mystery till the very end? The H was another issue for me. He was so unpredictable, he would be sweet one minute and angry the next. And I never knew what would trigger his change. He would cycle between rough and tender way too much. The h was annoying and stupid. Lastly, I still don't understand what was going on with the H's father and the boys he would take.
I was so pleasantly surprised with this book. It's not your typical dark captive romance. There's a mystery to it. Your guessing until the end how Shane, our leading man knows Zoey, our leading lady. You know, but there's still this mysterious, uncertainty to it. Throughout the book, it's building and building, until it finally unfolds. And when it does, it's pretty satisfying. I enjoyed it a lot. And I loved Shane. Domineering and stubborn, yet insecure and fragile. Love him. Great read
I loved this book so much!!! Shane has a dark past and really good heart, Zoey also has a dark past (part of it she doesn't even remember but still carries the scars) Shane saves her life and then holds her captive to keep her safe They have so much in common but are still very different and Shane doesn't want to ever let her go This is the best book....the connection and emotions were amazing
I'm not sure about this book. I was confused in the beginning and here and there like I missed something and should go back and re read (but I did not) I never really got what was the reason behind how he was raised. I would have liked more background, also about his brother Trent, why was he chasing his "captive" what about Adam and his "girl" ...What about the dad? (he was creepy) it felt a bit choppy to me, but I could see this was a diamond in the rough:)
Well written and it's between light in some parts ,other parts are dark. The
Theme very interesting, because foster children is different, not usually the way could've. But very interesting the main characters ,Shane and Z , volatile, explosive, with strong attitudes:::::: She was hate him,but a tender touch of him Could appear to be a monster, change everything and she likes or not belongs to him. Recommended::::::::::
I thought the book was okay. I was hard to follow at times and honestly I didn't feel like it came together like it should have. There were times while reading and I thought, okay thumbprint make sense. It just didn't flow.
Well this was one hell of a ride on all kinds of levels. I liked the characters of course and curious about the other men involved in this book. Guess we'll have to see. Do I think it's worth waiting for. Yes. It's a good book.
Had my doubts, but in the end it was so worth it. There were what? Oh no! Huh? Oh my god! What the hell? Ahhh. Moments aplenty in this one book. Ask yourself, when a book does all that for you, then isn't it worth the read? YES! I say. So read it.
Solid characters, smart, feisty, and damaged female lead, sexy and damaged hero with a penchant for control. A fun story that is well out together. I'm guessing there will be multiple in the series since the hero has lots of equally damaged brothers and I will happily read those as well.
This was very well written and the story is captivating! But what makes it a five star rating are the characters that come alive on the pages... Their emotions, thoughts and desires are so perfectly personified that you feel with and for them... I loved them!
A Cinderella story but twisted! It made me laugh even though it was seriously crazy , but ultimately a true love story at its best with a happy ending! Loved it, and found it hard to put down. A train wreck you can't look away from, but very entertaining.
I liked this book but I wanted to throw my kindle at about 85% because of the heroine. For someone that's supposed to be hardcore and street smart, she just ends up crying a lot, always forgive the hero too fast and making stupid decisions. She just annoyed me!
If you like dominated alpha this book is for you. Can't say they are the perfect couple together but it works for them. This book has lots of drama and sex. He is very controlling. It's to the point of very controlling. But it was a good book.
this was an okay read but at times I got lost trying to figure out what was going on. I definitely think this book had more potential and even a lot of typos that need to be edited. That being said I loved the craziness the male lead .
Very good book, and actually surprised me that I enjoyed it so much. A more original story line than in many in this genre. Would definitely recommendit
