Kate Flaherty has a knack for fixing things. She also has a knack for getting caught in the middle of murder investigations.
This time is different for Kate.
This time, it hits a little closer to home.
Another life has been unjustly taken. Her hometown has been threatened by anarchists. Kate’s husband is still missing. Mrs. Fixit is back and more determined than ever to solve Rock Ridge’s many mysteries.
With the help of police Chief Scott York, Kate aims to bring the bad guys to justice, and to begin opening her heart to the good ones along the way.
The pattern is becoming very obvious. There little actual sleuthing going on. Mostly the main characters goes to the hardware store, does random odd jobs, finds a dead body, argues with herself about her husband who disappeared five years ago, hangs out with her high school sweetheart who is in love with her, then ends up talking to the murderer, at which point she is rescued by the police. I may have to wash my hands of this series...or speed read through the rest to pad my Goodreads challenge numbers. We'll see.
Since I don't normally write reviews unless I have something specific to say, here's the break down of how I rate my books...
1 star... This book was bad, so bad I may have given up and skipped to the end. I will avoid this author like the plague in the future.
2 stars... This book was not very good, and I won't be reading any more from the author.
3 stars... This book was ok, but I won't go out of my way to read more, But if I find another book by the author for under a dollar I'd pick it up.
4 stars... I really enjoyed this book and will definitely be on the look out to pick up more from the series/author.
5 stars... I loved this book! It has earned a permanent home in my collection and I'll be picking up the rest of the series and other books from the author ASAP.
I am enjoying this cosy series. The plots are quite basic and in each book we have a murder. Katy the local handywoman tried to get involved in solving the crime. I really like how her character is developing over the series and also that of Scott our main male protagonist. Katy's husband has been missing for five years without trace and in this book we find out some news which could help the missing person investigation. I am continuing the series. It's a nice cosy read and whilst it isn't overly complex or literary, I'm really enjoying it and cannot wait to find out what has happened to the husband!
All three of these books so far have been relatives of each other but with this the third in the series we have major development In the case of Kate's missing husband in relation to her moving forward with her life and developments in his disappearing. Like the previous two could have I actually read this book in one sitting, like all cosy mystery's this was a quick cute throwaway read
So this is a small town and the handywoman finds a body in every book. Pretty soon it's going to be a ghost town. It also seems strange that the same person finds the body every time. I think maybe they should lock up Mrs. Fix It before the whole town is dead.
Though I'm still seeking the answer to what happened with her husband, and yes, gaining some more information through this volume's mystery, I felt this volume moved just a little slow for me AND that's only my own opinion and could be due to my own impatience to find out the answers-haha! I like this series.
Enjoyed reading the book, they are a little similar in format and read together they are all linked to the disappearance of Kate's husband. Still, they are very enjoyable to read.
A Veneer of Murder is a really quick, light read. This edition sees more revelations about Katie's missing husband, with a little murder mystery to be solved along the way.
With this third book it seemed like the murder was secondary to everything else. There was really only one suspect, despite a couple of red herrings thrown in, and the ending sort of just appeared.
This wasn't my favourite in the series. It's not bad by any means, just short.
The Mrs. Fix It Mysteries are light, easy to read and enjoyable, if a bit sparse on development.
Very cute cookie cuter mysteries that I devoured while I was cruising to Mexico... pretty sure I read 7 of the books in the series. This is a very cute mystery series to read if you are in the mood for something to take your mind off the world and have a little fun.
I've quickly fallen into this series about a woman names Kate who is the towns Mrs. Fix It. Her husband disappeared 5 years ago leaving her to fend for herself and her two children. In each book Kate's small town is turned upside down by a murder. In this installment the murder hits a little closer to home by being one of her good friends. Kate somehow manages to beat out the detectives in each installment and solve the crime. Entertaining series, I am glad I bought the box set.
Another enjoyable entry in this series. We get further into the search for Kate's missing husband, Greg, as now she's almost ready to move on with her life. The love interest Scott is still here and waiting and Kate's still picking up business as the towns handy-woman so life is really busy for her. Found a few small typos but I could read around them and will continue with the series.
This was a really good book. The 3rd in a series, this one is every bit as good as the first 2. Here we get to see a bit more of what the missing husband was into, and why he left. That's in addition to a challenging mystery that does not seem clear cut at first glance. Well Done!
The series follows the life of Kate with her own story unfolding with the murders. Each book solves the murder but there are cliffhangers around Kate's life. Easy reading, not super exciting or dramatic rather sweet and simple.
Kate is on the trail of another murderer and more information on her missing husband. Scott is still trying to aid and protect her as she chases down the clues.
I actually give this a 4.5. I really enjoyed it, I feel like it offered a lot of pieces of the puzzle that had previously been missing. The only thing I didn't like was how abruptly it seemed to end!
