In more recent years, he has focused solely on creator-owned titles for Image Comics, such as Fatale, Criminal, Velvet and Kill or Be Killed.
In 2016, Brubaker ventured into television, joining the writing staff of the HBO series Westworld.
Wow, I really need to read Brubaker’s run sometime, have heard nothing but good things about it. Read this first issue in a free comics day thing. Didn’t realise it would be as interesting as it was. Curious 🧐
Also Steve has a secret identity, istg I never remember that 😭
Nice first issue, with down to earth art. I like this realistic style much better than Granov's in Iron Man Extremis. Nevertheless, the Red Skull has big plans with the cosmic cube while Cap is on a strange emotional phase.
Captain America (2004-2011) #1 marks a thrilling new beginning for the iconic hero. Eisner-nominated Ed Brubaker and artist Steve Epting shake up Cap’s world with bold storytelling. In this debut issue, the Red Skull unleashes a devastating scheme using the Cosmic Cube. A riveting, twist-packed launch that will leave fans and the industry buzzing with anticipation.
Brubakers run of Captain America will ALWAYS be my top comic run. Sure some issues aren't the best but man the overall story line is AMAZING and heartbreaking at the same time. I re-read it often. Highly recommend, especially for the Bucky lovers out there.
A great setup that makes me think a great story is going to be told. Steve Rogers is lying low in this one, keeping out of the public eye. And we see some bad guys scheming over a mysterious cosmic cube. The volume ends on a shock murder.
I'm not usually a fan of these director cut issues, but this one is pretty cool. Brubaker's run on Cap is one of my favorite comics ever and this has some really great behind the scenes info and some cool unused art work.
