Rebel Hearts #1

Outside the Lines

Rate this book
When a tall, dark, and handsome stranger literally runs into Felicity Hills at a coffee shop and spills her iced mocha down the front of her shirt, she doesn’t think the embarrassing encounter will lead to anything more, let alone be the single event that causes her life to spiral out of control.

And now she can’t get him out of her head, and he’s making her question everything just when she thought she got a handle on this thing called life. Because Ben has it all. Good looks. A job as killer as his abs. Great hair and great skills in bed. There is no way someone as irresistible as him can be into someone like Felicity.

Right?

This book was laugh out loud funny and amusing. The romance was strong and steamy and the erotic scenes were graphic enough. Overall I feel underwhelmed by this story, it started off strong but then became long and drawn out. if you're in the mood for a light and fluffy story you may find it entertaining.

This was pleasantly surprising. I went in knowing nothing but the synopsis. It was on kindle unlimited and no one I knew had read it. I love it when that happens...taking a chance and winning.
Felicity was awesome. Ridiculed in high school because she was smart and nerdy, felicity still harbours her insecurities. She's an intelligent techie with loads of hacker potential and I loved it. Into Cosplay and gaming, she often felt she wasn't good enough compared to better looking, more put together women. When she meets Ben, a sexy and hot artist, after her company is hired to install new software at his gallery, sparks fly. Intensely. But felicity can't help but question what he sees in her. And to top it all off, her nemesis and source of bullying in high school, Mindy Abraham, works for Ben.

I could totally relate to Felicity and her issues. She was an awesome woman to me. Her doubts about herself were the complete opposite of how Ben saw her. He thought she was cool and unlike any girl he'd been with. This was just so good. The plot moved along great and the sexy times were hot. I wanted to punch Mindy, though. What a cow! Some people will always be their backwards teenage self. She needed to grow up and move on. I loved the ending of this book, I got a sweet epilogue, too.

Eeks. Loved this book. Funny, realistic, honest and emotional. Felicity has to be one of the greatest heroines I've read. She was real, nerdy and utterly adorable. She is a computer genius but she settles for a low profile job. She is herself despite having been hurt in the past and she is kind and funny.
Her entire life changes when she meets Ben. He is handsome and an artist. At first glance, he might seem like a player but not everything is as it seems. He sees Felicity for who she really is and pursues her.
Despite their seemingly obvious differences, they click and Felicity feels as if she might have finally found the man she has been waiting for. Add in a bullying girl from Felicity's past and you have the perfect blend of comedy and romance.
The book was light on drama and that made the book for me. It was interesting just because of how good the writing is. The author rocks this entertaining read and I couldn't have asked for a more relatable heroine. Excellent work.
If you want some drama free romance with a perfectly imperfect kickass heroine, then look no further. If you want a book-boyfriend with a heart of gold then look no more. You will love this couple.

+++++5 Nerdy Stars from me.+++++

HOLY HUMOR BATMAN! I LOVED LOVED LOVED this story! It's definitely one of the funniest books I've ever read! A word of warning, don't read while drinking a beverage.

Felicity Hills marches to the beat of her own drummer. She's not a big fan of people, so that's why she works behind a computer all day. When her boss begs her to go on a service call for him, she stops at a coffee shop on the way, where a sexy stranger spills her iced mocha down her shirt. What she doesn't realize is she's going to see him again shortly, and he's going to turn her life upside down. Felicity can't get him out of her head, so she agrees to go to dinner with him, although she can't figure out why he would be interested in her. Will Ben be able to convince Felicity that he really does want to be with her?

OMG I'm not sure I ever stopped laughing throughout this story. The character development is perfect, and Felicity is one of the best heroines I've read. I related to her so much, especially with the light saber, and superhero drawers. A well written, fast paced, hilarious storyline flows smoothly. Emily Goodwin has a fantastic way of writing a hilarious and realistic story that I totally related to. The sexy scenes are SMOKIN panty melting goodness, and the developing love was entertaining. I can't wait to read more by this author in the future, and HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Outside the lines?! Hmm 🤔

This book was good.

https://ladiikeiii.wordpress.com/2019...

•••Wait hold up may be some spoilers in it.•••

So like I said it might be spoilers in this book; depends on what I’m thinking while typing up this review. I know that I liked this book it was pretty good; the description of the book gave that away. But anyways, I would like to the point out that I’ve read a few of Emily Goodwin books; and I want to say that Ben lasted way longer than the other dudes during sex. 😂😂😂😂😂😂 I just had to say that because usually when I am reading books. The kissing and licking and talking are to dang long and the sex parts are like 2 minutes 😂 just a blink of an eye.

So with that being said; I like how Ben didn’t care that Felicia was a nerd and weird; he loved her regardless. That made Mindy so jealous and wanted what Felicia had. Though they did sex a few times; that is not what he wanted. Mindy was the devil she was pure evil. I think she was jealous of Felicia in high school and as an adult. She was so bitter; it was ridiculous and she tried to clown Felicia a few times, but no one didn’t care what she (Mindy) thought and wasn’t on her side. Even though, her sister gave those side glances. I bet Mindy believed that Ben would leave Felicia but got fool when she found out they were together. I bet she left her husband so that she could be with Ben. But in the end; Felicia got the man. I did thought she was going to be pregnant half towards the end, but it never happened oh well.

4.5 stars!

I've read a lot of this author's paranormal books, but I've also read her latest contemporary book, Never Say Never, so I was looking forward to reading more contemporary books from her! I signed up to review this book and couldn't wait to read it! It sounded amazing and my kind of book! I squealed when I got my ARC and started reading it straightaway! I loved this book! I wasn't 100% sure what to expect from it after I read the synopsis, but I loved it! The plot was also amazing and it developed at a really good pace too! I really liked that the first few chapters were all about getting to know the main character and that she didn't meet her love interest straightaway and start a relationship with him! It really helped me connect more with the main character! The plot also had some seriously hot scenes in it! I wasn't expecting them to be as hot as they were, but they were pretty steamy! I just loved the plot and I loved the ending! It really was perfect and very beautiful! The characters were also amazing and totally made the plot for me! Felicity 'Lissy' was the main female character, and she was such a carefree and geeky character! I mean, she was very self-conscious as well and she had her downfalls about herself, but her geekiness definitely overshadowed her self-consciousness lol! I loved Lissy! I loved how passionate she was about the things she loved and that she was funny and honest! I loved that she stood up for people and she didn't let people boss her around! I just connected brilliantly with her and she was a fantastic main character! Lissy may actually be one of my favourite main characters! Ben was the love interest of Lissy and he was seriously hot! He was such a gentlemen as well! I also loved that Ben loved Lissy's geekiness and that she brought out his geeky side even more lol! Ben was also very passionate about art and he was super good at it! He had a successful business and he had worked hard to get to where he was! I also loved how Ben was with Lissy! He was always there for her and he had her back and supported her! I could also see that he had deep feelings for her, and that those feelings developed as the plot progressed! This book was only written from Lissy's point of view, which was amazing, but I would have loved it if a few chapters had been written from Ben's point of view! It would have been interesting to see what his intentions with Lissy were near the beginning of the book! I loved that the epilogue was written from Ben's point of view though! I can't wait to read the next book in this series! I loved this book and I can't wait to see what the next book is going to be about! I'm assuming that it's going to be about different characters because the ending to Lissy and Ben's story was perfect lol! I definitely wouldn't mind more Lissy and Ben though lol! The cover for this book suits it perfectly! It has that romantic, light-hearted feel to it, which suits what happens in the book! I love it! Big thank you to Emily and The Hype PR for an ARC of Outside the Lines!

I loved the premise. I love nerdy, quirky heroines. They are my favorite, but I did not care for Felicity. This one did not work for me. I did not connect with the characters. The story was there, but the execution was poor.

Felicity runs into a guy at the coffee shop and ends up spilling coffee on herself. Later, Felicity is asked to go help fix a client's computer. The client, Ben, is the guy she ran into at the coffee shop. I love these type of stories, but I think it took too long for the book to get to this point. We are not introduced to the hero until 20%. Everything before is about Felicity...her love for gaming. How good she is at it and her interaction with her co-workers and friends. There was a lot of inner monologue which after awhile got annoying. I like when the author gives me information about the characters, but the first 20% felt like filler. It did not add anything to the story. Everything in the first 20% could have been written in 3 pages.

At Ben's art gallery, Felicity sees the receptionist who used to be her nemesis in high school. Mindy was the popular girl in high school who picked on Felicity. I love this type of drama. I love when the nerdy girl grows up and turns into a swan and gets the hot guy and the girl that picked on her sees how the nerd got the guy, but Felicity had a huge chip on her shoulder. Felicity said she was not angry, but time and time again throughout the story, she was make snide comments. It also felt weird that

I think the inner monologue with the swearing was really not necessary. I don't mind swearing in stories, but this felt out of place.

They had sex on their first date which felt forced.

This may work for you, but it did not work for me. You may love it.

Felicity Hills doesn't adhere to what is expected by woman today. The makeup, the clothes, the lack of food, she is who she is and proud of it. She loves her geek wear, playing video games, and basically just being herself.

When she crashes into Ben with her iced coffee, little does she realize that her running mouth will come back to haunt her. Ben, an artist, finds Felicity inspiring not to mention drop dead gorgeous. As Felicity and Ben begin to build something, old insecurities start coming out from Felicity especially when her hold high school tormentor comes back in the picture.

This is a hilarious story. I loved Felicity, she is quirky and a true geek. I thought she had wonderful spirit. Ben is seductive and has a way of being slightly mysterious as well. I loved how this all played out. Excellent read.

This book is really sweet, and have so many sexy moments and also fun moments. Felicity is great, she is trying to get over all of her insecurities from high school and her bad decisions about the mens in her life. She is fanny and natural, she wears what she wants and say what she wants, it´so refreshing reading about her. She still have some confidence issues but she is trying to be more strong. I love the way she met with Ben, and he was really a great guy, funny, always sweet and honest. Obviously he had some faults too, but that is what made the book so good. I really loved the book. Can't wait to read the next book in the serie.

1.5 stars. DNF -- made it 2/3 and gave up. This book needed to be edited. I mean, come on, there was a grammar error on almost every third page; once the main character's name was Bed instead of Ben. What really killed me was the lack of content editing. I do not care that your main character wants to get her lady bits waxed and then gets a rash from lotion and has to take some Benadryl and gets sleepy the next day at work. I got sleepy reading about it!
Overall, the book has a distinctly self-published vibe, which is unfortunate, because the story was cute and I would have at least finished if it had been edited.

I received a ARC for my honest review. I absolutely loved this book. Emily is one of my favorite Authors.

Felicity just thinks she has a handle on her life. When she runs into this handsome stranger in a coffee shop ... He makes her second guess everything. Felicity try's everything to keep going on with her life but she can't quit thinking about Ben.

4 Stars!

Sweet. Fun. Quirky. Cute. This book was amazing and totally captivated me from page one. I love a light-hearted romance that is light on angst. low on drama, and just makes you feel good and smile a whole lot while reading it. This book was just the perfect recipe for a cool weekend day when I wanted to curl up and smile. This book is a complete standalone with a sweet happy ending.

This is Felicity and Ben’s story. Felicity is a hard core nerd who wears her geek gear proud. She is smart with technology and has been burned by love so many times she is taking a timeout. But when a super sexy man runs into her literally at a coffee shop, it is going to change her life in ways she never knew. And Ben is just what she needs to believe in love and romance again.

Ben is an artist. When he meets the quirky Felicity, she makes him want things. Ben is a good man with a good heart but relationships are kind of outside territory to him. But the more he is around Felicity, the more he realizes he wants that with her. He intends to break down her walls and find a place in her heart. Can these two find a happy ending despite the few bumps they face?

I loved these two together. They were so much fun and the banter was so fun and light. I loved how Felicity was insecure in that strong package she has on the outside. I loved her humor and her "nerd-ness". I also liked Ben... A LOT! He made me swoon over and over. Sure these two made mistakes along the way but the love they had was deep, real, and completely wholesome.

I recommend this book.

I wanted to love this book, I really did. The main characters seems like a great character. Nerd. Hipster. Super-smart. Vendetta against the girl who used to bully her. And Ben is totally drool worthy... but. But I never got the feeling that I really *like* Ben. And I really didn't seem to connect with our heroine. Mostly, she seemed to hide her insecurity in feminist rhetoric. She likes to blame other people for things. If it's not easy, she ain't doing it. Also, freaking communicate with the hottie! Don't just sit there and act like a victim! Open your mouth!

I finished this book, and I'm glad I did. It seemed a little formulaic, but the ending definitely helped me decide that it wasn't bad writing, per se. (Although "puddy" and "shuttered" made me laugh every time I saw them.) I just think the author tried to write a formulaic book and didn't realize her characters weren't that relatable.

This story contains heartbreak, and laughs.

This is Felicity and Ben’s story. This is a sweet and funny read. Felicity is a take me as I am geeky woman. Ben is an artist who is hot and looks like a player would. After a mishap in a coffee shop they met again. They are drawn to each other but will past bad decisions and insecurities ruin a chance they could have together? Ben is supportive and is around and ready to back up Felicity when she needs him. So will she open her heart and trust he wants her for her? This was really a great story and I can’t wait to read more from this author.

I felt I was able to connect with the characters and the story was a great read.

I recommend this book and this author.

This is a sweet and funny read. Felicity is a comic con geeky women.Ben is an artist who is hot and looks like a model! After a coffee accident they meet each other again when Felicity has to go to Ben's gallery to fix their IT problems.

And that's how their romance starts. Typical of any romance with their ups and downs but we all love our HEA

She's as "single as an individually wrapped slice of American cheese with no prospects in sight"...until

“Should I be ashamed I’m walking into a sex toy store with a wallet full of cash my grandmother sent me for my twenty-fifth birthday?  And that I plan to spend said cash on a new vibrator since mine shorted out in the tub?”

I cannot begin to tell you how much I love Felicity!  She’s quirky, imperfect and real.  She has insecurities like all of us but she’s no Pitiful Polly by any stretch!  She suffers from bloating, frizzy hair and a semi dormant fashion sense except when it comes to cosplay!  She’s a nerd and not afraid to let her Freak Flag fly especially when accessorized with her Gryffindor heels!

Ben is perfect.  He’s hot, talented and normal!  Not your typical alpha-male romance hottie.  He’s just the right amount of confident and real and he’s perfect for Felicity...she just doesn't know it yet!

The ride to their HEA is bumpy and full of laughs with a ton of feels along the way!

This was a sweet, funny, fluffy, sexy book. I really liked Felicity. She was trying to march to the beat of her own drum and sometimes her insecurities got the better of her. Ben was a great H too.

I was mildly annoyed by Felicity's insecurities and lack of communication started to get tedious too. As these were mostly near the end, don't let that keep you from reading this book.

I really enjoyed reading something different with a nerdy h and a H who is not a manwhore. This book was a nice, easy read.

I’m so happy if found this book thanks to an editor newsletter.
It is so not the usual romance.
Here is Felicity, a total nerd but fully aware of who she is and trying her best to be simply herself.
Then she meets Ben, an awesome artist, too awesome for her she thinks, but he seems to enjoy his time with her, her crazy banter, her lifestyle and her family.
Ben is a kind man, filled with humor and able to stand up for who he cares and what he wants.
The story is slow paced, we learn about Felicity long before her first encounter with Ben. I liked her flaws, her hilarious character, she was so real to me, perfect with all her imperfections, i could have been her.
With her imperfections come her insecurities, always wondering why Ben is with her, he seems so amazing, and no love words are exchanged until very late in the story, she is too shy and afraid of sharing her feeling to speak but with her mistakes she learns to grew and accept she can’t know everything.
To sum up a very good book of a woman looking for love but dealing to accept it when it comes banging at her door.

Outside the Lines follows Felecity who is a bit of a nerd- loves comic con, even making her own cosplaying costumes, stay up late binge watching shows or gaming, and is smart. But has deep seeded insecurities not only because of high school but because of her past boyfriends. When a tall dark and handsome guy runs into her at a coffee shop, she let's still that she is going to work for an asshole client. When she walks into her clients office- it is none other then tall dark and handsome- Ben. Ben is an artist who moved here from New York City. He has everything- good looks, an awesome job, and amazing body... So what does he see in her?
I enjoyed this book. I related so much to Felecity. I am a nerd too, although not as smart or into gaming, I love some of the same shows and movies and love comic con (although I don't cosplay). I enjoyed Felicity's interactions with her friends, cat, and Ben. And really didn't care for Mindy- I was definitely not part of the cool crowd as a teen. 4⭐ out of 5⭐. This was a quick, light, fun read, .and exactly what I was looking for.

Emily Goodwin knows how to write a good love story.

The nerdy girl from high school who marches to the beat of her own drum, grows up to work in computers. After being bullied in high school she is self conscious about relationships. Felicity is asked to go and make a customer call to an art gallery who can not get their website up and running.

She has a run in with a man who causes her to spill her coffee down the front of her shirt. But she's intrigued, however, she leaves without getting his name not expecting to run in to him again.

She's surprised when she walks in to meet her client and finds the man from the coffee shop is the artist in residence who owns the gallery.

Ben likes everything Felicity stands for. She does her own thing and doesn't care of anyone else's opinion. As he gets to know Felicity he realizes he hasn't met anyone like her before.

But there is much to overcome in their story.

Must read to find out.

Outside the Lines is a feel good romance. The title perfectly fits both the hero and heroine of this book.

Felicity is a quirky, nerdy, computer programmer/reformed hacker who loves cosplay. She is a young adult in her twenties trying to move past her previous bad luck in relationships, as well as coming to terms with negative high school relationships.

In a chance meeting, Felicity meets Ben, Who is a little "outside the lines" himself. Ben and Felicity start a relationship that works for them.

This was a quick and easy read with an HEA, as well as some laugh out loud moments. If you are looking for a book with little drama and angst and this is a perfect read for you.

I give this book 3.5 stars. I definitely enjoyed the book, but I would love to have seen more character development of Ben, as well as learn a little more about his family.

I enjoyed losing myself for a few hours in this sweet, quirky and realistic story. It had many laugh out loud moments as well as some steamy scenes!

The main characters were fun and relatable. Felicity was a rockin heroine and although she had some insecurities, she generally had a no f’s given attitude. She’s quirky, pretty, down to Earth and intelligent. Ben was swoon worthy- a totally sexy and kind-hearted artist and just as down to Earth as Felicity. They had great chemistry and I enjoyed their witty banter and all the fun they had together.

If you’re in the mood for a quick read that’s light-hearted and fun, pick up a copy of Outside the Lines by Emily Goodwin!

Great, quick tead with a kickass heroine. Felicity is awesome and a proud card carrying member of the geek squad. Ben is pretty beta, which I like. I am so sick of all the asshole alpha books I have been reading. The relationship amgst is pretty low, but Felicity's own selfesteem angst is pretty high. Any woman who isn't perfect looking and is nerdy can relate to that. I kinda wish we got Ben's POV a couple of times, but most of his actions spoke louder than words, though I am sure there those of you who have come across a man whose actions aren't sincere at all. Anyway, another hreat read by Emily. Love her books.

Good story, not a lot of drama, which is nice sometimes. I loved Felicity. Quirky, charming nerd girl who loves all the things I love (Doctor Who, Game of Thrones, Supernatural, Harry Potter) and is trying to be herself, despite what others think. She meets Ben, who seems to good to be true, but doesn't think he will stick around, because what could he see in her? As their relationship progresses, she has to battle some self-esteem issues and learns more about herself. I can tell this is early Emily Goodwin, as she ups the angst in her later books. Enjoyed it and will continue to read this author's work.

Outside the Lines is a quick, fun, flirty read that will have you turning the pages quickly to see what happens. It is a romance between a hot artist named Ben and a quirky, cute coder named Felicity. An accidental meeting sets them up for off the charts chemistry when they run in to each other again. Felicity also runs in to her high school nemesis and it is super fun to see her put Mindy in her place. I really enjoyed this book and loved see the relationship develop between Ben and Felicity. I would love to read more about this couple. Emily did a fantastic job!!!

[1.5 stars] did not like this book. felt that the heroine is too unsure of herself, and she keep second guessing herself & the relationship is just fucking annoying, i mean she can just open her mouth and ask what is ths status of the relationship isnt it? and she keep talking and askin questions to herself is just weird. not continuing the series if there are continuation.

Great characters!

I loved Felicity's character, Ben being inexplicably attracted to her and how they worked their way through their first fight. Lots of hot sex is always a welcome addition, in my mind. Stayed up late just to see how this ended and I wasn't disappointed. I HIGHLY recommend this book!

I couldn't relate to the heroine. She was too nerdy for me. I've read tons of books where the character was nerdy, but the author took Felicity's neediness over the top. My other problem was the amount of spelling mistakes that were in this book. I still boggles my mind how people can publish a book with a slew of mistakes in it.
