Norman Bridwell was an American author and cartoonist, best-known for the Clifford the Big Red Dog series of children's books. Bridwell attended John Herron School of Art in Indianapolis, Indiana. He lived on Martha's Vineyard, MA, where he wrote an average of two books a year.
Evie’s first library book! Pleased she picked Clifford. Surprised she picked one about snow. Very cute and quick read, lots of details in the illustrations.
My son read us this one as well and he loves this story. He is such a fan of animals and loves that Clifford grows to be a giant dog at the end of the book. Bless him!
Clifford’s First Snow Day by Norman Bridwell is about a girl, Elizabeth remembering her dog, Clifford’s very first snow day. This whole book was told as a flashback, coming back to present day on the first and last page. Clifford has tons of different adventures sliding down a hill, going on a frozen lake, and building a snowman. On Clifford’s very first snow day he was very tiny, we know this because of the illustrations and context clues given throughout the book; this reminded me about my dog, who is very tiny. My dog and I have gone through similar experiences in the snow as Clifford and it was fun to remember the past winters with my dog.
A cute story about Clifford's first experience with snow as a tiny puppy. The pictures pair nicely with the simple text, progressing the story on. The illustrations were well done and also showed a nice range of emotions beyond happy and sad.
Nice book about ingenuity, creative thinking, and everyone's favorite red dog.
It's snowing where we live which is rare so our schools reverted from hybrid to remote. So for the second time I read Clifford's first snow day in my Kindergarten Zoom - every few seconds a kid would interupt, I can't see you! I was in presentation mode so I am not sure what the problem was. I just hope that they all went out and played in the snow after our lesson. A kid can grow two sizes in this town before it snows again.
Read with my son when he was in first grade.* The original Clifford, the Big Red Dog was one of my favorites when growing up. My son enjoyed all the Clifford books that came out and they made good books that he could read to me.
*He had to keep a reading log and I just found this when going through storage tubs.
When Clifford was a wee puppy, Emily Elizabeth took him out to see his first snow. He was so tiny that he got lost in the snow, and when Emily Elizabeth and her friend Tim searched for him they found him in a funny place. Cute story and illustrations.
This is a good seasonal book that would be nice to read during winter. It talks about the past kind of like flashback so it could be used to explain the flashbacks in a story. The book is fairly short so I would read it to kindergarten and first grade students. I like how it also talks about the different things you can do during the winter.
All children have heard about and read about Clifford the Big Red Dog. This is a great seasonal book to ready for the winter time. Clifford struggles with having fun on this snow day because he is so little, but in the end he has a whole lot of fun.
Great book to introduce the winter season and to spread holiday cheer with younger students. Will definitely add to students imagination of the excitement to come during the holidays.
