Joolz always takes us to dark places, and harrowing events.
Alma is a complex heroine, well drawn, utterly believable. Fleeing a broken relationship and life in tatters, she takes refuge with her intellectual, aloof parents in Spain. There she visits and becomes fascinated by a cult, followers of a 'Prophet' and his fascinating, beautiful twin sister.
Luckily, Alma is tough and cynical and isn't going to fall for all that hippy dippy loving nonsense. She thinks.
A very enjoyable read - you know it's all going to go horribly wrong, but are drawn on to find out just how. And you are left questioning whether any of us are as tough as we think, whether our friends are who we thought, whether the world is quite bow we believed.
