Words have a bizarre power over us. We seek meaning in them, cling to certain sentences, and hold out hoping they won’t fall apart in the morning. But the truth is, not all promises can be kept. I Promised You I Wouldn’t Write This is a deeply personal look into Ari’s own journey with words. The ones she didn’t say. The ones she can’t forget. And maybe most importantly, the ones she knows she still has to reclaim her power from. Ari examines loss (romantic, familial, and inner) and the undeniable strength that comes from vulnerability.
Ari Eastman is a spoken word poet, writer, and YouTuber who will tell you random facts about sharks, if you’re into that kind of thing. She strongly believes in balancing the feels and the funnies. And is always down to split a cup of frozen yogurt. Just don't make fun of her for still liking gummy bears. More of her work can be found here: http://tcat.tc/ari-eastman
“but I never want to see you hurt. I would pick apart my own heart strings and use them to tie yours back together. I am okay bleeding out, so long as you are given a new chance, a new life.”
Ari Eastman is truly an exceptional writer. Everything about this book fills you with yearning that it was longer because you just want to keep reading. This brave and beautiful book find a special corner in your heart as you read and stays there long after you have run out of pages to read. I can't wait to read Green Eyes as I am fortunate enough to have that in my possession too.
I believe in the power of words but even more so I am amazed at the power of those who say them. They anger us, they make us cry, they make us laugh, they make us hope. The words spoken, and the words never said shape us into the people we are today.
This collection of words is so beautiful, leaving me to cling to every sentence. Ari never ever disappoints me.
One of the most skillful compilations of modern poetry I've laid hands on to date. Her use of metaphors strikes a great balance between raw truth and beauty, so you end up thinking "this is so true and so sad but also mesmerizingly pretty... "
I had high hopes for this book. Unfortunately, I was severely disappointed. There were a few good stories, but the majority were melodramatic boo-hoo pieces. This book would likely be less annoying to a teenager full of angst. I was not impressed.
