'I can provide you no solace from the obscenity that even now seeks to befoul your path along the spirit plane. Damnation or salvation, death or redemption, your fate awaits...'
You are trapped in the deepest darkness, far from the sunlit realm, but all is not yet lost. You may still find a way to free yourself from the web of Orb's greatest evil -- the Black Widow -- and rescue your friend Glaivas despite the malice of the countless deadly denizens of the Rift. To succeed in your journey back to the surface you will have to overcome the wrath of the gods of evil, to pass beyond even the spirit realm itself and into legend, redeeming all that you have lost to the rotten heart of Orb. But what great evil has taken root in your home city whilst you have been away, bringing it to the very brink of disaster?
The Way of the Tiger is the role-playing adventure classic now revised and expanded for today. You choose the skills and martial arts moves to defeat your enemy, gaining knowledge and honing your abilities to use in further books. Are you ready for the Way of the Tiger?
In the 80s I came across the Way of the Tiger series and loved them. Forward wind 30 years and I happily discover book 7 and decide to give it a go - for old times sake. I'm glad I did.
Redeemer continues where book 6 (Inferno) left off, with our lovable heroic Ninja trapped in the Rift and attempting to rescue his friend Glaivas the Ranger Lord.
The book includes a lot of chances to use the various moves and skills you've picked up along the way, something I found a bit lacking in some of the other books. Overall there seems to be more options and ways to handle many of the encounters.
A positive or negative depending on your point of view is the use of a lot of previous major characters, villains and monsters - you'll either love the nostalgia of it all (like I did) or think that there is too much rehash of old material.
For those like me who read these game books growing up, this was fun to play and nicely wrapped up the series.
Was really looking forward to this as only recently discovered of its existence. Sadly it misses the mark. Errors and poor layout abound and the escape from the rift would have be ample adventure for this book. Instead this is way too linear and is cut short. It is only when you return to Irsmuncast that the adventure gets going and this part is great and echoes the earlier books. I wish the structure had been better. Is it worth getting - yes - but probably only for completists only.
An excellent conclusion to an excellent series. Keeping the spirit of the previous entries, making sense in terms of internal logic and why the events are unfolding the way they do, and at the same time providing a challenging and consistent game play. Overall, it was worth the very long wait.
A perfect ending to the Way of the Tiger franchise :) glad to have bought it. Finished it in one go :) Smiled a few times, as flashbacks to the other books in the series appears, including a book from the FF era ;)
