The Jackson High School Band and student director Kimberly Bouton are making their biennial journey to a music festival in the deep South for fun and educational opportunities. Kim expects to deal with hormonal teenagers, a severe lack of sleep, and long boring bus rides, but the roadside inn where the band stays on their visit hides a sinister secret – and it translates to unimagined horrors for students and teachers alike...
Check into THE INN, where the guests are the entertainment...
Great and absolutley compelling story about manipulated rooms in an inn and an eerie young man who gives the female inn guests a very special treatment. Fast paced, striking with an absolute unscrupolous villain. I really enjoyed this story about rape and murder in a small inn in Alabama. There is also a nice twist at the end and a potential follow up in the pipeline for the story. Hard in some parts but absolutely recommended!
“Things happened 'round here when purty girls checked in. People complain 'bout headaches and ask about ghosts in their rooms.”
A band trip quickly gets out of hand when the girls and teacher from the school become targeted by a sick individual.
Ew! Gross! Now I’ll be even more creeped out than usual if I ever stay in a motel again! Honestly I feel like a good chunk of this story could be something that sickos would actually do in reality.
I really felt bad for the women in this story, especially Kim…. I wonder if she got a TBI and can’t move forward because of that and the psychological trauma as well. The ambiguous ending worked here, and I wonder if Kim’s nightmares are just beginning!
This story deals with a lot of traumatic events: sexual assault, kidnapping, murder, etc. so be forewarned!
This novella was fast paced, detailed and had a strong plot of a creepy hotel and a high school band. Dialogue and pace of character shifting was done well. It appears to be an earlier work and I love reading early works of many authors , it gives me a peek of what is to come. I think this author has a lot to show us in his future writing endeavors and new tales. I look forward to buying more.
This is another fine novel written by Scott Dyson. While reading I had to remind myself that I wasn't reading a Stephen King or Dean Koontz horror novel, but and equally well written book by Scott.
The story line is solid but I couldn't get past the female lead that was so obviously written by a man... I couldn't help but roll my eyes at most of the thoughts that went through her head!
This book is fast paced full of action from the start. Once i picked it up that was me till the end just couldn't bring myself to out it down. But don't be fooled by the length of this story as previously stated it's full of action to the point I feel like I've read a 300-400 page novel rather than just over 100.
The book was well written, the author must have some weird fantasies going on in his head, I enjoyed the good old slasher vibe the story had, though I don't think I'll ever want to stay at an inn. I will be reading the other Scott Dyson books I have on my Kindle. If you like this kind of book, you will enjoy this one..
3.75🌟 A shocking short story I wasn’t expecting. Now I know why I don’t like motels. Good story line and some strong characters. This book definitely packs a punch. Will read more from this author for sure.
Great premise; flawed execution. Too much of this book gave me "men writing women" vibes. At no point did I feel like I was reading about real people...women don't spend that much time thinking about how big teenage girls' boobs are or how tight their shirts are.
