This book was helpful and theologically solid, but I did not love the writing style. My favorite chapters were on contentment and loneliness…I felt like she had some wonderful insights.

A few quotes from the book:

“Contentment is a matter of the mind. It’s perspective. It’s making a list of what we believe will make us content in one column, writing as many pages as we wish, then, in the opposite column, writing simply, “God.” The “God” column more than balances our other list, no matter how long the first column is.”

“If God had created us all alike, would we ever be lonely? I think not. Someone else could know exactly how we feel. But “human” means no one else has your fingerprints, no one else creates an identical footprint in the sand. Perhaps when we feel lonely we can accept that feeling as a reminder that we are created uniquely in His image - which is better than being like any other human!”

“There is no love without sacrifice. And sacrifice looks to the future at the expense of the present.”

“Instead of shuddering and staying uninvolved, Esther said, ‘If I perish, I perish.’ Esther 4:16”
