"I haven’t always been a writer. My parents are writers and my brother is a writer, and I resisted that as long as I could. When I was 17, I hopped in a band’s van and I went on tour for a summer, and that was it, that was what I wanted to do. I ran a record label for 10 years, a small indie punk label. I did everything in music that you can do that doesn’t involve having musical ability. Eventually the music business, probably in a similar way to comics, will just start to break your heart, and I realized one day that I kind of hated music. I was resigned to thinking, if I’m going to be involved in music forever, I’m going to hate it for the rest of my life. I just stopped. I stopped having any sort of business with music, any involvement.
I read comics my whole life, so I just naturally fell back into another medium that is marginalized and hard to make a living in."
Quake is trying to figure out how she fits in with the Avengers and it's kind of interesting to see a perspective like that, where she doesn't feel like she belongs and has to work out how to contribute to the group. The ending made me smile.
My introduction to Quake was from ABCs agents of shield, so this was a little different for me. It seemed like a cautionary tale with an abrupt ending. I was left wishing that there was more.
Okay, quick question: Who do I have to slip a cool $20 to at Marvel to get Daisy Johnson her own series? Seriously, I loved this S.H.I.E.L.D. 50th Anniversary Quake issue. It contains everything I want in a comic about my favorite Agents of SHIELD character: Daisy Johnson not taking shit and following her conscience even if it gets her in trouble, some of her family/Inhuman background coming into play as a major plot point, and a well-loved Marvel character as Daisy's mentor. How great is it that Steve Rogers sees something in Daisy and selects her for his team? There is nothing about this issue that I didn't like. I think it should be longer. I think that Quake should get her own series. I think that, in the current situation at Marvel, it's not impossible for this to happen.
Also, thank goodness for my local (okay, semi-local) comic book store, Green Brain Comics, in Dearborn, MI. Without them, I wouldn't have access to amazing comics and events. Also, I wouldn't have this issue since they're currently having a sale on their back issues. Thanks, Green Brain!
Captain America puts SHIELD agent Daisy Johnson otherwise known as Quake on The Avengers. She wasn't expecting this assignment and wasn't prepared for it.
I really like Daisy Johnson thanks to the Agents of SHIELD TV show and her appearances in Secret Invasion and Secret Warriors. She's a tough and super powered young woman trained by Nick Fury so she's always been something else. This issue had Quake appear mousy and I have to say I'm not loving that at all. It's good to see a version of her, but this version just isn't her. This would have been fine if it happened far earlier, but having it happen now makes no sense. Other than that it was good.
