Conventional business wisdom tells you that there’s always something to learn from failure. Not true, says Barry Moltz. Sometimes, failure just stinks. Bounce! explains how success and failure are simply normal outcomes in the regular lifecycle of a business and that process over the long term matters far more than individual outcomes. This book shows you how to build a business that can “bounce” through these cycles for long-term success. If you run a business, better make it Bounce!
Excellent advice for entrepreneurs, especially those of us a few years in. Personally it was timely and providential to have this book fall into my hands just now (Thank you again, Barry Moltz!). I'm making serious decisions to let go of strategies that haven't worked and move ahead with renewed energy. The Author makes it clear that failures and dead ends are not THE end, but part of the normal business cycle. They are chances to correct course. The meteoric rise to success and the rags-to-riches stories are the rare exceptions (and tales that often do not end happily). We need not hold ourselves to an unrealistic standard — rather, we are free to chart our own path, which will always take us though ups and downs. With experience and a healthy perspective, we'll become increasingly confident and resilient.
A lot that I can use here. Will be reading this one again, soon!
A book about resilience at work and overcoming business failures. I found it very insightful in parts, and in others to be a reminder of my own "usual" thought processes when things are tough. I was disappointed however when the author almost placed a caveat on his own situation...infering bad decisions are ok as long as you never lose your house because of them. I think this book would have been far more powerful (and helpful) with an extra chapter that explores the consequences of losing all material possessions and perhaps relationships as a result of business failure. It would have been more satisfying to have read a chapter that outlined this is tough, but in the end, ok.
I don't have patience for books written in story form, so all I read was the concluding chapter. So my 2-stars isn't really fair. ;-) It was fine, but not really what I was looking for.
It is a business self-help book. I dislike this type of books, which use big names such as IBM to persuade readers to believe things. I like logic explanations.
