Reliant: an apocalypse in tweets

Rate this book
Selfies, sexbots, and drones collide in these interwoven nanofictions about a society before, during, and after its collapse. With dazzling humor and insight, debut author S. Kay reveals a future that looks disconcertingly like the present. Beautifully illustrated by Thoka Maer, Reliant is a bold examination of society's unrequited love for technology.

Sets the bar on how microfiction can be used to tell a larger story.

Before I can think of anything else, I have to say this:
THIS BOOK HAS THE PERFECT LAST LINE. It's a weird accolade, but it's true. I don't think I've ever been so stupefyingly awed by a final sentence before.

Ahem. Anyway.

I was kindly given an ARC, and let me be one of the first to say that this isn't just a book, it's an experience. The emotions inspired range from amused ("Patriobots") to hopeful ("Integration") to discomfort as this future hits close to home (Flipping Burgers"). That's without touching on the final third, which I think it's best to let each reader stumble into without spoilers.

Buy. Read. Have feelings. Enjoy.
