Spoke of Love

Rate this book
The death of her husband forced Garnet Wheelock to become a mail-order bride. The torturous ship voyage was eclipsed only by the cruelty of her master in the New World of Virginia. But the Lord's hand was upon her, and she has been bought by a new master and given a home.

A widower of four years, Samuel Walsh longs for a women's touch upon his home and family. The Widow Wheelock seems perfect for the task—she's industrious and loving, and the children adore her. He's vowed never to marry again, but when news of her pregnancy spawns accusations of impropriety, Sam weds Garnet to preserve his honor.

Could their feelings run deeper than mere obligation? Can the Lord weave two broken lives together and create a future stronger than the past that haunts them?

Cathy Marie Hake

As a child, Cathy Marie Hake had an imaginary playmate. Now "grown up," she indulges in a host of imaginary friends as she writes. She teasingly says she decided if those voices in her head were talking, she might as well write down what they said and make a living by doing it. She met her sweetheart in the High School department at church and married him after finishing nursing school. They live in Southern California and have two children and two dogs (one of them even moos - one of the dogs that is, not the kids). Faith in God, a loving family, and a wacky sense of the ridiculous keep her going.

Known for surfing across the kitchen on a dropped dill pickle slice, waterskiing on sea anemone spit, and using Right Guard® as hair spray; she considers herself living proof that God does, indeed, possess a healthy sense of humor.

Cathy loves classical music, romantic getways with her husband, and Diet Pepsi Free®. "I need chocolate to survive, love my friends, and enjoy a deep personal relationship with the Lord. Although an extrovert, I'm very conservative on a personal level."

In her writing, Cathy attempts to capture a unique glimpse of life and how a man and woman can overcome obstacles when motivated by love. In her inspirational pieces she enjoys the freedom of showing how Christ can enrich a loving couple's relationship.

I absolutely was sucked into 'Spoke of Love'! This beautiful story tells the tale of Garnett, a strong and resilient woman who has faced unimaginable trauma, leaving her speechless for a significant part of the book. When she finally finds her voice, it's gruffer than expected, but her love interest finds it charming!

What I adore about this book is the way the author balances steamy romance with a sweet, Christian approach. The chemistry between the leads is palpable, and their love story is a testament to the power of redemption and second chances.

Garnett's journey is inspiring, and her resilience in the face of adversity is a reminder that God can bring beauty from ashes. The romance is tender, yet passionate, and the author's writing style makes it easy to become invested in the characters' stories.

If you're looking for a Christian romance that will capture your heart and leave you feeling uplifted, 'Spoke of Love' is a must-read!

Garnet was sold to cover to husband debts. She was sold to a horrible man. Witnessing this horrible treatment of another human being cause Samuel to use what little money he had to buy Garnet yet again. Samuel take care of Garnet; bringing her back to good health and bringing her to his home and to his children. As time passes, they all start to care for one another and with the Lord in their lives; He creates a family.

So so good!

After reading 'Mixed Blessings' I've fallen in love with Cathy Marie Hake's way of story telling. So perusing through my Kindle list I ran across this book, so glad I did. It was wonderful. Characters you really fell in love with or disliked intensely. Samuel was a pillar of his faith, a true man of God. Garnet even after all she suffered, never lost her faith. Along with a community of friends and children so so good.

I love this story.

I love this story. I have read it several times. The only thing I wish I'd that it had more than one , by that I mean I wish we got the kids story as well. Or maybe Ruth's story.

2.5 stars. I liked it for the most part but the epilogue was way over the top.

Set in Colonial America with lots of great details to show us how life functioned at the time. I loved Garnet's steadfast spirit. Samuel is a wonderful man who truly desires live a Godly life, but he's not as willing to open his heart to Garnet. I loved the sweet ending.

Great story. Couldn't put it down. My only complaint was that it was a thin novel!

Cathy did a wonderful job placing the reader in the 1700's. The storyline hooked me, the characters were great. I thoroughly enjoyed this story.

I really started liking this little story but it wasn't developed as far as the romance goes. It should have been a bigger book and more of the love story in between.
