Just when you think you've read every single variation of magical whatever-it-is out there for children's books, along comes a magical pet shop? Okay! Bring it! I love reading about magical talking animals, and the talking animals in this book are especially hilarious to me (would my 7-year-old find them as funny? Don't know yet, as I haven't thrust this one on her because our library doesn't have the sequel and I don't want to have to deal with her woe on top of my woe when she inevitably LOVES it the way I LOVED it....)

Ok, sorry. Rambling. Back to the talking animals: each animals' talk was so in character for their species--just a fine detail that made this book a particular pleasure to read. THOUGH, what is up with authors and the word "smirk?" Why is it that humans are smirking all the time??? That was the one thing that distracted me--repeatedly--throughout this book! People were constantly smirking! For the love of all that's holy, find another way to express what your humans are doing! Maybe they were grimacing! Maybe they were pulling faces! People DO NOT ALWAYS SMIRK.

Pet peeve.

Anyway, read this book. It's sweetly enchanting. Really. And the way our hero deals with bullies will make you want to cheer for her! Just...enough with the smirk already.

Book 1 of this series.
I note from my review of book 2 that these are aimed at a slightly older audience that the Animal Stories series that the author also writes. That is still true but it would take a more hardened reader than I not to get a similar lump in my throat at certain passages of this story.

Without giving any spoilers, this series does appear to give a new take on magical people and creatures. There are some surprises in the story as well. It doesn't feel as cosy as some other books aimed at a similar audience but it does show a lot of heart. It also could lead to discussions of bullying and the different forms it takes which could help a reader that is experiencing any form of bullying.

A series for a 8-11 year old to try or it could be read to a younger audience. If I get the opportunity I will explore more of this series.

My 5 year old daughter loves these stories. And for once it's not a chore to read them out loud to her. I get tired of all the fairy books and all the princess books. but I enjoy reading these to her much more!

I have four children aged 7, 5 ,3 and 1. We got this book as an audiobook from the local library and absolutely loved it. The ending left the story open with a lot of places to go, so I am hoping that later books will answer a few of our questions!

I don't much about this book, but it involves Cats, and Magic. What else can you ask for? I would defintley recommend this book to Hope, but you have to wait 'till I'm done reading it.

⭐️ (4/5) A fun kids' read. 🚂🐩🍫🐈‍⬛🐈🪄🧙‍♀️🚪

It is an interesting kids' read, with very simple vocabulary. Any school kid will love to have this story as their night read. An effective page-turner.

I only wish there was more food for the imagination in this book.

Empfehlenswert!

Catmagic is about a girl named Charley and her mom makes her go live at her uncles pet shop until school starts. But then her mom calls and tells her that she might have to start the school year at the school at her uncle's town's school. Now she thinks her mom has just dumped her at her uncles "boring" pet shop, but what she doesn't know is that this pet shop is magic! On the day her uncle tells her to walk Sophie, while she's walking Sophie a group of mean girls are torturing her and when she gets a chance to run she goes the wrong way and Sophie talks to her. Charley thinks it's all in her head, but then all the other animals start talking to. Will Charley ever know the truth?

Lottie's mother has to go to Paris for her job during the summer. so Lottie has to go to her Uncle Jakes house. He and his son Danny live and own a pet shop. Lottie starts to notice some strange things in the pet shop and finds out its MAGICAL! All the animals can talk and some have other magical powers too. Lottie goes on many adventures and she may even find some magic in herself too.

meh. E loves this series. She said she'd give every one of them a 5. I'd probably really give it 2 stars, but since E liked it so much, I bumped it up. It's a step up from the Magic Puppy, Magic Kitty, etc. books. I didn't find it all that compelling though, but then again, I'm not the target audience. The main gist of the book is that there's a girl who discovers she has magic in her family and there are magical animals that can talk. She starts learning how to do some magic from a witch who is her uncle's girlfriend.

I wanted a book about cat's being magical. This book had many magical animals but did not mostly focus on cats at all. It was fun and cute, just not what I thought I'd gotten.

I enjoyed listening to the audio-book version of this book as the library didn't have a copy of the book. I loved reading as a child! Anyone who loves animals and magic will enjoy this series!

The good:

The premise of the book was very interesting, there aren’t very many books out there that is about a magical pet shop making this book feel a bit more unique.

Some of the characters were alright, I liked Sofie, and the kittens as they felt the most interesting out of all the characters to me.

The bad:

Most of the characters honestly were forgettable, and not that interesting. Only a few actually stood out to me, and that was it.

The story was honestly kinda lacking in the plot department. There was hardly no conflict to the story making it almost kinda boring, and the story just felt like it was rambling on with no focused plot to it; it honestly feels contrived as in the author just made it up as they went along with their story.

The book has the name cat magic, but yet wasn’t at all about the cats or their magic? The name of the book honestly doesn’t make that much sense to me, and made me feel like I wasn’t getting what I expected from the beginning of the book. It felt like it followed Lottie along with that dog sofie more than anything else.

Overall:

This story was ok, it kept my interest long enough to finish it without getting bored, but other than that this story is one of those stories with an interesting idea that fell short to me in the end like a few other stories I read before. I may or may not read the sequels, depends on my mood.

Personally this only gets 3 stars because I am not really the target Audi ace and I don’t really think I get a real opinion buuuttt… it was ok the plot wasn’t the best but for children’s story’s it certainly wasn’t the worst. I’m probably going to sell or donate my animal magic series because I don’t really want to keep reading it and i think it could go to a better cause :)

read these books about 12 years ago and I just wanted to say that I randomly remembered the last line from the first book as I’m currently reading a coming of age, and got the biggest rush of nostalgia.

just the greatest children’s book series for animal lovers. buy these for your kids, they’ll be thinking about them for years to come and have the sudden urge to re read :)

Such a sweet story! I loved all of the characters, especially Sofie and Ariadne. The ending was lovely and emotional, a bit abrupt but I still enjoyed it. I'm curious to read the next book in the series! (4.5)
