Understanding Bourdieu aims to explain Bourdieu′s work in a lively and accessible style with extensive reference to popular culture. Bourdieu′s work is central to contemporary social and cultural theory as well as research and teaching, however, understanding Bourdieu can be a challenge. This book uses a range of examples from popular culture to flesh out the material in accessible terms. As such it is an ideal primer for all beginning sociology and cultural studies students.
Lo que me enseñó este libro es que Philosophers and Sociologists make things seem more difficult than they actually are😶 Gracias a este libro entendí mejor a bourdieu, me ayudó en mi ensayo y no me sentí tonta Tqm
Pierre Bourdieu is someone I hadn't heard of until recently, and I guess his introduction to the larger world thanks to English translators helps somewhat. I wonder how the late Bourdieu (he died in 2002) would feel about all the citations in articles, etc, although he would appreciate citation doesn't neessarily equate to reverence I guess. Still, this book is a decent primer to the world of Bourdieu, and helps you to understand concepts.
If Bourdieu was in a movie, I would suggest Russell Crowe to play him. Sort of a beefy philosopher.
Excellent introduction to the works and thoughts of Pierre Bourdieu. This is the book to start reading before venturing into any other book by or about Bourdieu.
