Being New Devotional Readings has St. Paul's ambitious to present every person perfect in Christ. With that in mind, this wide-ranging devotional is full of strong texts and short teaching, all organized into bite-size readings. You will find applicable wisdom on every page, as Being Christian is the product of Jim Wilson's practical advice and scriptural meditation over the past thirty-five years. Throughout every chapter you will read a huge variety of powerful, concentrated Scriptures, covering fundamental topics like prayer, evangelism, everyday holiness, joy, love, family, and (of course) what it means to be a Christian. "Strong teaching makes strong Christians. And it makes soft-hearted, tender, loving Christians. But soft teaching makes hard, callused Christians. Soft teaching is for people who have itching ears. They do not wish to have their lives interfered with." ~ Jim Wilson, from the Preface
Jim Wilson has worked as a pastor and director of Community Christian Ministries (Moscow, Idaho) for over forty years. Before that, he served in the Navy as an officer for nine years and then with Officer's Christian Fellowship for another twelve years. Jim has authored a number of books, including How to Be Free from Bitterness, and is well-known for his practical Bible teaching on relationships and evangelism. He was married to his wife, Bessie, from 1952 until her death in 2010, and is the father of four, grandfather of fifteen (one of whom is in heaven), and great-grandfather of twenty-five and counting.
I did listen to this book, but, “Wow!” It was so so good!! He is straight to the point, is not afraid of speaking the truth and doesn’t sugar coat sins like many modern day books do. I will definitely be buying and reading this book again!
So much biblical wisdom packed into this book. He does touch on some of the same things he said in his book on bitterness. This is a great book to read alone and then also again with your family. It would also be a great small group study book.
Mostly good. Some practical thoughts about the life of a Christian, his sanctification, and the normal changes we should look for after regeneration and faith.
