This is a textbook that I used along with the Desmond Morton book, A Short History of Canada. It was very clearly written and easily understandable. I used it to explain much of what Morton was writing about.

Despite some glaring omissions -- the words "residential school" are not in the index -- it's still the go-to text for general Canadian history.

All things considered, I wanted to like this book more than I did.

I understand that more recent editions address many of my concerns, so there's not much to say.
