In writing this little book the author has as sumed that those who will use it are familiar with boiler and engine plants and he has had in mind the practicing engineer who is called upon to design power plants, and who must there fore decide when it is best to use some form of mechanical draft. The arrangement of the book is what the experience of the author in making calculations for mechanical draft installations has shown him is probably the best. And he has tried to arrange the tables in such a way and in such a sequence that they may prove as useful to others as they have to him.
