Philippians: Ironside Commentaries by Henry Allan Ironside is an esteemed commentary on the Epistle to the Philippians. Mr. Ironside exhibited a very loving approach in presenting these biblical truths on this small epistle written by the Apostle Paul.
Professor Ironside’s portrayal of Philippians was that of an analytical and historical work of love. Indeed, he captured the essential points of Philippians and brought to light significant enlightenment which the ordinary reader would not notice.
In truth, Paul’s letter to the Philippians was sent to the first Christian church he had planted in Europe. This letter was written by Paul while he was in prison. The apostle showed his gratitude repeatedly in this Epistle to this congregation.
Mr. Ironside’s commentary on Philippians capture the love and affection Paul had toward them because of their generosity toward him. His gracious teaching style gives you the sensation of being there when Paul first wrote this Epistle.
This carefully written commentary on Philippians provides an unparalleled resource for all who seek to know more about the epistle called Philippians. It is an excellent read for devotional reading and for serious Bible study. It can also be used for as a textbook in Bible Colleges and Institutes.

Ironside has a warm devotional style that leans toward Plymouth Brethrenism. But in that mix are gold nuggets of wisdom and insight. I enjoy the warm devotional style to begin the day, but he often lacks the depths of theological correlation and deeper truth that could be mined from digging into the text.

Devotional, practical, and Christ-centered, the Ironside Expository Commentary series offers insightful and practical comments that bring out the essential truths of God's Word. All volumes present the unabridged text in a newly typeset edition. A perfect resource for preaching and teaching from the English text of the Bible, these commentaries also provide the general reader with an excellent resource for personal study and spiritual growth.

This book was first written in 1922, but gives so much for me to consider. You can get past the old King James wordage and hear the message Paul writes to the Philippians. It challenges me to make Christ my all.
