Here’s a great book to give new parents. I discovered this author at Barnes and Noble where I camped out today for over two hours. I loved the sweet illustrations and message in this book plus many of the others I read from this author. There are spaces to fill in the baby’s birth date, name, etc. to personalize the book.
The very first book I read to Jack! The message is so sweet, and I love that I can customize the front page with his name, birth info, and a little note to him.
The first time I tried to read it to him, he was too tired and fussy so we had to stop. But it went better when we rented the next night, and I had Daniel record it for posterity.
This is a very cute book. The illustrations resemble pieces of felt in rough shapes with stitches around the edges.
The handwritten-style text is meant as a love letter to a new baby, and the book even has spots in the front to write down baby's birthday stats.
My cousin and his wife bought it for Lily because they heard I wanted to go with some elephant-themed stuff.
When I was sorting out the clothes of the baby I lost, there were elephants on some of them, and someone had also given my new baby a stuffed elephant. So I felt like there was a connection bridging the two there and the elephant imagery became special to me.
We've read the book a few times now, and I cry every time I read the page "We'll show you the beauty of the stars in the sky. Our love will be with you as the years go by."
This is something I literally want to do with my child when she's old enough--go somewhere out in the middle of nowhere, maybe camping, where we can actually see the stars. That plus thinking of the many many happy years that are (hopefully) ahead of us is a tearjerker indeed.
We received this as a gift at our baby shower, and it's a lovely gender-neutral, customizable book. There's a page in the front to record details about your baby, which is sweet, but means you'd probably need additional copies for multiple children. The text focuses on promises from the baby's caregivers to the baby (e.g. "We welcomed you..." and "We'll teach you..."), which is nice since so many books are about Mommy and don't acknowledge other kinds of caregiving relationships. There is a line, however, about being there on the day Baby was born, so it may not work for adoptive parents, foster parents, etc. Still, it's a sweet book to share with a little one and to remind yourself what it's all about when times are hard.
The illustrations are absolutely terrible. But hey, your baby will be drawing pictures just like this soon. So grin and bear it.
Moral: “The world welcomes you.”
Length: It goes pretty fast, especially when The Child has little interest in the illustrations
Favorite Line: “Joy filled our hearts and spread everywhere.”
Overall impression: The idea that parents are so consumed with sustaining life in those first weeks is spot on… so having a third person write your love letter celebrating birth seems like a novel idea. Unfortunately, it’s all just pretty bland. Still, the poem is full of love and mushy tenderness. So it’s a worthwhile read just for babies to hear that they are loved.
"Welcome Little One" by Sandra Magsamen. I have seen many of these types of books, but this one was different. It focused more on the parent's love of a child and everything they do for the child. Sometimes, many books only focus on a mom, and this one focuses on both parents, which I liked. The illustrations were simple and colorful. The words were big and easy to read—a great book for young children.
Mommy told me that she meant to bring this book to the hospital when I was born, but in the excitement, she forgot to. ha ha! So my first time reading this book was actually today, a month after I was born.
My daddy read it while I was at the doctor's office, waiting to get my first shot. I wasn't scared. I had my daddy, and I had this book. :)
Very sweet book welcoming baby to the world with a special page to write in baby’s birth info. My only complaint is that permanent marker didn’t work well and neither did a regular pen so I am not sure what type of pen to use on this glossy paper.
My brother and his wife welcomed a baby girl on November 2. I got this cute book for them. I didn’t give it all 5 stars because you’re supposed to write in it. But I don’t see how you can on the shiny pages.
This book was very sweet. It would be a book for parents or family members/caregivers to read their infant or toddler to show how thankful they are for them and that they love them! I would not use this book in my classroom since it is for families and those who take care of small children.
My grandson is in Kindergarten, but he still loves to hear this story from when he was very small from time to time. He says that he is the blue chick. This well written story with its cute illustrations is perfect for tucking little ones in at bedtime.
I bought this book to take to the hospital when I had my daughter. It's so cute! There are places to write her birthdate and name. It's also fun to have while you're waiting for hospital discharge!
Such a sweet book about parental love, with a page to personalize for your little one. The illustrations are cute and colorful too. A wonderful baby shower gift, especially for first time parents.
