I received this book free as a giveaway through Goodreads. I always knew I had underlying issues with my body that was causing me to hold on to the fat and this book helped me in targeting what the issues were and how to work on them. It not only targeted the issue with my body but tells me step-by-step what to do to help heal my body and jump start my weight loss. The book is laid out in such a way that it is very easy to follow. It provides a checklist, Q&A on your issues that you might be facing, what the cause and effects of continuing to eat poorly does to your body, three different plans, grocery list, recipes and tells you when to do what and how to do it. I would definitely recommend this book to others who need that jump start of weight loss.
I had to come back and add that on my fifth day on the H burn, I have lost 8 lbs and still have 5 days to go. It works like it says it will. I feel energized during the day now. I am also able to sleep at night where before I would be up half the night. The book is definitely worth it.
I can't wait to try this. I have done 10 day juicing, detoxing my body and felt great after them along with having my skin glow. I am currently on her Fast Metabolism diet and have lost 20 lbs. My sister has lost 60. What Haylie says makes total sense and I think if it doesn't work for someone they might not be ready to lose the weight. They might be hanging onto it for a reason that they might not even be aware of. I've been there. You have to be ready to be committed to a life change to do any kind of program. I wish I had been ready for this years ago and I wish Haylie had been introduced to me years ago.
This book explains and gives details and recipes for three temporary regimens to kick-start weight loss if you've reached a plateau. They address three different issues that can sabotage our efforts. They are inflammation, digestive, and hormonal. They seem to be based on sound nutritional science as is her Fast Metabolic Diet which I have tried with some success. The trouble with the FMD is that it isn't sustainable because it eliminates all wheat, dairy, corn, soy, artificial additives, and processed sugars. (also caffeine and alcohol which I don't use anyway.) The Burn diet plans also eliminate these same things but are even more restrictive because they target the various issues. They are meant to be done in 3 day, 7 day, and 10 day diets so they're do-able. If you are interested in doing this, I suggest you read the whole book to understand the science before jumping in. I may try the 3 day inflammation diet because I'm having trouble with sciatica right now and weight gain.
This was a goodreads giveaway. I was concerned when I read it that it was not a realistic plan and I was right. All of the plans have morning and afternoon snacks required. Unfortunately I don't have a job that allows me to always get a morning or afternoon break. I decided to try the 3 day plan on my long weekend off. I quickly discovered this plan is not for everyone after buying the ingredients. I spent HALF my monthly grocery budget to buy food for 3 days! The "tea" was completely undrinkable. The soup was okay but not so okay that I could stand to eat it after the 4 cups I was to eat the first day of the plan. I gave up after the first day. These plans may work for some. For me it was just a waste of time and money.
A great guide to stepping up your metabolism to help you burn the fat. I have been battling with my weight even though I walk 2-3 miles per day and eat fairly fresh and clean food. After reading the book I went o my doctor and compounding pharmacy and am getting a hormone evaluation and replacement hormones. Can hardly wait. Thanks Haylie for the idea. I also did her drop 3 in 3 and DID! Great recipes and lots of motivation in this book.
* I received this book through the Goodreads Giveaway program. Thanks Goodreads and Harmony Books!***
Another very complicated diet book. Ed was in the kitchen for hours when we did first the ten day and then the three day versions of the three diets in this book. Ed lost weight. I didn't.
I like Haylie's recipes and if you can follow the diet (any of her diets) you will see results.
Only 3 stars because: 1) it is written for someone who has a prep cook, as Haylie apparently does. Seriously, I do not have unlimited time to chop up vegetables and prep for all of this - it is frustrating and simply unsustainable for a working individual. I really feel for working moms, as the prep time ranges from 45 minutes to 2 hours PER RECIPE. Yes, you can prep in advance over the weekend - and kiss goodbye anything outside of slaving in the kitchen. 2) it is expensive and there are calls for many foods/condiments that are more specialty and simply not available to many people. Of course if you can afford a prep cook, then you can afford to spend $250-$300 at Whole Foods every week. 3) the tea (any of them) are sooooooo gross. One is like sipping sand water with a splash of baby puke and another is flavorful but the texture (flax seed) is like swallowing snot. No thank you.
I received a copy of this book complimentary for blog and social media review. All opinions are my own.
This book written by Haylie Pomroy, has 3 eating plans that can assist you if you suffer from inflammation, digestive, and/or hormonal complications. She addresses how all three of those issues can halt your weight loss and what you can do about it. I know I could benefit from following any or all of these eating plans, especially the digestive plan.
When I reviewed the eating plan and grocery list for the D-Burn Digestive Intervention, I was pleased that it listed “normal” clean foods on the list, so I won’t go broke buying a bunch of weird detox food. My only concern is that she suggests having one cup of cooked fruit one hour before bed.
I can’t wait to continue reading this book and apply some of these ideas and principles to my every day life!
My "diet" resistant husband can't believe the profound changes he is experiencing. He has been extremely over weight for years, and no amount of exercising or healthy lifestyle changes, had any real or long lasting benefits. He calls Haylie his girl! He is enjoying food like never before. I believe for the first time in his life, he feels joyful about this journey and this way of life. He will be forever grateful to Haylie for helping him to not only lose 60 pounds, but for the zest he has for living again.
Really interesting diet. I love how she explains the science behind it all. This is definitely something I'm going to try after I finish her other diet.
I was trying to respond to Nancy I Bouffides' review. However, I was unable to do so. On the do not eat list are: dried fruit, fruit juice, fat free foods, soy, corn, dairy, wheat, caffeine, alcohol, & artificial sweeteners. Some of these things I can agree with for sure such as corn, soy, dried fruit, and juice. The others though... Moderation is key. Nancy I Bouffides' review lead me to want to respond with, "Thanks for the honest review. I was wondering how doable this is for us working personnel. When I saw dandelions, I was quite sure the recipe was a no gonas this is not a tasty weed. Moreover, why are these recipes not more affordable where ingredients are easily accessible?! No, I know this plan is ridiculous as it sounds. It is not made for those of us who have restrictions either." Although I do like how Haylie Pomroy addresses the need to not starve oneself to lose weight and to just listen to your body. You can also replace the protein, fruit, fat, and vegetable due to your taste and dietary limitations. If you can find these ingredients and can afford them, then best of luck to you!
Listened to this on audiobook but ended up buying this one and Fast Metabolism in print so that I can do the diets. She's a little less infomercial-y in this book which I appreciated. I am curious to try the D-burn and see the results. These diets are not meant to be long term, rather, to jump start you again when you reach your plateau. In my case, I just need a refuel of motivation with my eating.
Each Burn diet (I-Burn, D-Burn, H-Burn) vary in number of days and are based on different symptoms and issues. She goes through the problem areas and symptoms corresponding to each diet so you can self-diagnose and determine what you need.
I didn't realize what a force she has become- has a full website of cookbooks, supplements and a community of followers...I was really more interested in the nutrition aspect and will likely not join th cult. Good information though.
I am a big fan of Haylie Pomroy and find her ways of eating to be incredibly nutritious. The Burn is straight forward, providing 3 different nutrition plans to address 3 different sets of symptoms (inflammation, hormones, digestion). Having to eat soft foods for a bit, I decided to give the I-Burn a go. It’s fruit and vegetable heavy, along with good portions of fat and some protein. The tea is somewhere between delicious and vile, and the morning smoothie needs some tweaks (I use half the lime and cranberries recommended). Though Haylie’s prose is repetitive, she knows her stuff and I have benefitted tremendously from her knowledge (especially her Fast Metabolism book). Recommend.
I love Fast Metabolism Diet, it did great things for me, I lost 13kg, started exercising (more energy), but I couldn't move below those 13kg, hoped burns would get me unstuck. Unfortunately the D-burn soup turned out inedible, I don't feel like wasting more money on other burn recipes, especially that default recipe sets are crazy expensive. Disappointment overall.
Always clear and direct with fantastical advice that feels birderline miraculous but did work for me! I did the three day plan and while it was clearly written I still struggled to eat and drink that much. If you need help, she’s real and this isn’t a hoax.
March 27, 2022: I'm having same issues, digestive, and gaining instead of losing. Marks around ankles from socks and waist line. I've been mindful of diet since 2012, ten years, and still here. So I'm going to do the iburn soup and dburn soups. Smoothies may try the dburn. With acid lately, cannot do lemons but will try lime. Teas I'll do dandelion one I got not hers since cannot do any mint or lemons. I'll see. March 31/April 1 until April 3. Days off. Focused.
I discovered this book while looking for other books on the same subject matter and said why not give it a look. I see on the cover and back cover that it has three options: 3 days, 5 days, or 10 days to try for weight loss and based on various issues you are trying to overcome. I definitely interested in the 5/10 day rule since it addresses issues I am currently facing and symptoms I'd love to find a way to remove, cure, or eliminate!
For the last few years, I also have had problems losing weight and keeping it off. I noticed that when I look in my health journaling since 2010, seeing the same weight then lose up to 20-25 lbs, and then put it all back on by the end of the year. I am so tired of this cycle and want to find something that is the jumpstart and feasible to my life style.
Sidenote: I do love Dolvett's 3-1-2-1 diet since you are eating a balanced diet of foods: protein, carbs, and fiber which also helps with my bowels since I have a case of IBS. I have also Vegan cookbooks since I have considered this or being a semi-vegetarian who has finally gave up red meat completely this year (gave up pork over 7 years ago, maybe it's been 10 at the very least and now beef this very year due to how it reacts in my body). So by this year, I should know what is best for me and my body. Just got off a 10-day smoothie cleanse (modified), and attentively paying attention to what foods cause bloating, gas, and so forth to get my life back on track!
After completing the read, see I'll start with h burn and then d burn but may not follow the recipes. However, I will look at the foods suggested and see I have to go to whole food store which can be a bit pricey for me at this time. I will see what I do have in house to try it later but she specifies you have to make the soup and teas.
I did try most of the recipes offered for both the H burn and D burn diets. I will admit that the D burn meals tasted much better than the H Burn ones. The H burn were not seasoned well, bland and had to add much more sea salt than normal to have some taste. The smoothies on both diets were not good at all but the D burn was worse than the H burn, meaning I had to add stevia to it since it was bitterly sour (but it speaks for itself based on the ingredients: lemon, basil, cucumber, green apple, flax seeds, and chia seeds; the other had greens, beats, apple, etc.). I replaced the sirloin steak (beef and broccoli recipe) for chicken since I no longer eat red meat. I enjoyed this one. Aside from the recipes, I wasn't able to find some of the items even though I went to Trader's Joe to find them. So I did what I thought was best as alternatives or substitutes or tweeking the diets a little bit. Yet I did lose 6 lbs on H Burn instead of 10 because I did have a few cheat days since dad got good meals after work or weekend. D Burn soup tastes better than H Burn soup (didn't like since it was so bland). D Burn is only 5 days instead of 10, more manageable. But be careful, after you get off, I easily gained 1 lb back in 5 days and felt bloated, gassy due to trying to eat back normal. But before I got on the D Burn diet, I lost 1.2 lbs back. I plan to read her Fast Metabolism Diet book now.
I finally found something that works! It has been hard to see weight loss and now know the factor to my extremely slow metabolism, based on foods I eat or have eaten. Thank you! I just have to fix some of the diets with more seasoning. Dad even ate one on the H Burn and didn't like it. Said do not follow that bland stuff. Lol. But D Burn chicken broccoli meal, he didn't complain and ate some! I will try her shepherd's pie tonight (love sweet potatoes and ground turkey). Oh I also had an explosion with the D Burn tea by not following directions. Do not put in tea pot and wait for whistle, but in large pot and boil then let steep. I had an explosion literally on the electric stove and was gross tea that I forced to drink for two of the 4 days. I know it would've been better if I followed it correctly.
Leisure read 2015
*Re-read for I-burn diet that I did not try back in May. I did lose up to 2 lbs on this one and didn't follow 100%. The shake was quite bitter and needed 4-5 pure via stevia packets; soup was fine but dad refused to try seeing only water and veggies; and tried the hummus coleslaw--will not do again but fish with roasted veggies was fine and zucchini pasta I actually liked with mushrooms and red onions. Will do again after thanksgiving since soup is frozen. May try D-burn again too before year ends. Read again November 2015.
Adrienna Turner Author of The Day Begins with Christ (now title changed to "Begins with Christ")
I had an awful experience with this diet plan. I tried it because a friend I trusted said it had worked for her, so that must prove for some people this is just what the doctor ordered. But for me, the book should really have had a warning to see a doctor about it before starting it. The plan made me physically ill, and I had to stop after day 3, because I was really afraid I would do some serious damage to myself. This is not a diet for someone who might be a health outlier--the foods are being used as strong chemicals that can change your body chemistry, and if you aren't absolutely sure of what you're doing, you can wreak serious havoc. I would advise people against this diet unless you're actually under the care of Ms. Pomroy, and have her on speed-dial when the symptoms become really dire.
A great little book that deals with issues of inflammation, digestion and hormonal imbalance and how to correct them. Most of what I've read on these issues is very complicated (for someone like me) to try and implement. In this book, Ms. Pomroy tries to make it easy and has great tips for how to implement her recommendations.
I saw the author on a recent edition of the Dr. Oz show and the results her clients achieved were inspiring.
I borrowed this book from the library but if I want to use it as a reference I'll have to purchase it.
Love this book in theory, it is so positive and I picked up some great recipes. The problem is I seem to have an intolerance for the tea, which is key in the diet. I followed the rest of the instructions for 10 days and felt better, but hadn't lost any additional weight.
I've read this book but haven't tried her program. I'm going to try one of the plans when I have a period of time that I would be able to fully commit. Regardless, her writing is good, and the plan intriguing; I may update my rating once I try it out the diet.
I haven't tried the diets yet, but I liked the ideas in the book, especially the idea that transformation doesn't have to take forever - one bad weekend can have you looking terrible, so why can't one good weekend get you looking good? I plan on trying the I-Burn 3 day diet first.
I did the H-Burn and couldn't make through the 10 day diet. I was starving and frantic for food. However, I did like the H-Burn tea (which I still make as a staple in my fridge). I'll stick to the Fast Metabolism Diet, but I'll give The Burn another try.
