The NLT Illustrated Study Bible combines some of my favorite features in a Bible: study notes, many visuals, and the NLT version. My thought upon receiving the Bible was that this is a heavy resource (almost five pounds)! It is packed full of notes, pictures, graphics, articles, and maps. It is a wonderful Bible for in-depth at home study!

My copy of the NLT Illustrated Study Bible is the Deluxe Blush Rose Linen Hardcover, and it is beautiful and feminine. It has one pale pink ribbon, and silver stamping on the spine and front cover of the Bible that says "NLT Illustrated Study Bible". You can also purchase this Bible in hardcover gray, hardcover, imitation leather brown/teal, imitation leather brown/tan, and imitation leather black. You can also get either indexed or non-indexed.

Each book of the Bible has a beautiful full color picture above the name of the book, and an extensive introduction (4-5 pages). The text is a 9 point font, with the study notes being a little smaller (I am guessing a 7 point font, but that is just my guess). There are full color articles about people in the Bible and other different topics, timelines, maps, and more pictures than I could ever hope to describe in a review. In fact, my favorite part of this Bible is the amount of visuals included, because I am a very visual learner. It is a Bible that one can get lost in for hours because of all of the information included. I have also sat and looked at it with my young daughter, because she enjoys looking at the stunning pictures. This would be a valuable resource for family Bible reading/devotional time, not only because of the illustrations and notes, but also because of the easy to understand NLT text. At the end of the Bible, there are Hebrew and Greek word studies, which I thought was unique and very interesting. There is also a features index, a notes index, a dictionary/concordance, and fourteen pages of maps.

The only suggestion that I would have to make this Bible better would be to have a sewn spine instead of glued. This is a heavy, thick book with 2,618 pages, so it does slightly worry me that it may fall apart at some point. But, with care and not carrying it outside the house much, I am hopeful that it will last a long time.

I received a copy of this Bible from the publisher, Tyndale, in return for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

I enjoy reading my Bible but there are many times where I end up reaching for an additional text, such as a Bible Dictionary or Atlas to see if I can find additional information or time lines in regards to what I am reading. This can be a bit daunting and frustrating when losing my place in my reading as I switch from one book to another. It's also a bit inconvenient when I'm trying to juggle two or three books on my lap when sitting either on the couch or in bed. I've often wondered why it is this type of information cannot be put inside the Bible to have all at one place with the corresponding information right there along with the text.

Tyndale House Publishing must have read my mind because that is exactly what they have done with the Illustrated Study Bible. Published in the New Living Translation, this study Bible is over 2500 pages with full colored photographs, easy to interpret timelines and detailed profiles of important people. To say a Bible is breathtaking would normally sound a bit of a reach but is definitely the case with this particular version. The images are vibrant and eye catching, the timelines are easy to understand and Biblical concepts are explained in boxes that accompany the text. Gone are the days of thin onion skin pages of text - this truly takes the Living Word and gives it a whole new life.

This Bible is much much more than just pretty pictures. Within the pages of this one book are several tools that make studying the Bible a simpler process. The front of this version contains an Introduction explaining how the Bible was written, suggestions as to how to study the Bible, and a timeline of Biblical history that illustrated where each book falls in history. Both the Old and New Testament are given lengthy introductions describing canon, worldviews of the time, and other important information useful for understanding the time period. Each individual book has an introduction which explains at what time period the particular book was written, who wrote it, what the main focus is and also key scriptures that are of importance, each accompanied once again with stunning color visuals.

Following the Book of Revelations, pages are dedicated to Hebrew and Greek words studies (much like a dictionary), index to use as a quick reference to finding themes found in the Bible (Anger, Code of Hammurabi, and the Assyrian Invasion for example) as well as another index for looking up key notes such as people or particular words found throughout (ie: Caesar Augustus, blessings, blood atonement). This Bible version then ends with a pretty convenient Dictionary/Concordance combination that while is not a substitute for Strong's Concordance for those who need such an exhaustive reference, it it perfectly acceptable for the average Biblical study.

I found this to be a wonderful Bible and it has quickly become my new favorite Bible.

*Note* I received a free copy of this Bible from the publisher in exchange for my honest review. I was not required to write a positive review nor was I compensated in any other way. All opinions expressed are my own.

I read this translation through the year based on a read the Bible through in a year.
I love the journey and it has brought me closer to God. I would caution the reader that the translation is modern so the scriptures that you are familiar with in King James and New King James version may sound different. It still has the same meaning with different wording. I enjoy this version and plan to use it when studying God's words for clarity when I have trouble with other versions.

To steal from my dad when he read the Bible all the way through....
Spoiler alert
The Good Guy Wins!

I read through the Bible for the first time this year following the Chronological Plan (Basically reading the Bible in order of how it happened in order of events) I read along side Michelle Lesley ( https://michellelesley.com/2014/01/05/ ) I really enjoyed this method as. my first time reading through the BIble. It really helped me order events and see how God's word unfolded. As I read through there were a few things I noted ( Rest assured there were so many, this was an amazing experience that I had not done although been a Christian since 2014 ) I had never had the feeling I was ready to do it, but I am so thankful the Lord put it on my heart to do this year. I would like to do it again for sure in the future and maybe do a even closer read/dive into the word.

#1 One bit of advice that I thought was cool that I heard from John MacArthur (or was Alistair Begg) if you have a question about a passage or something in the bible make a note of it, and by the time you read through the bible and come back to that passage it will have been answered. (This proved true!! How great is God, His word is sufficient, personal and reveals more of Him)

#2 Leviticus was not that hard to get through. Numbers was.
#3 Elijah and Elisha I still mix up-any help? How do I keep them straight?
#4 1 John is my favorite book
#5 Jesus is on every page!

The author of this is listed as “Anonymous,” which makes me laugh, Goodreads! First of all, God inspired the original Hebrew and Greek which was translated by many biblical scholars as the New Living Translation who are certainly not anonymous. Secondly, this particular edition is packed full of study notes, background material, and profiles of people that enhanced my understanding tremendously. Those were all written by non-anonymous humans (the intro says more than sixty contributors).

I generally read through the Bible in a year but reading all those notes meant it took me almost 17 months. Well worth the time!

This Bible is absolutely AMAZING! So many beautiful colorful pictures and maps! And tonssss of charts, graphs, information etc. The NLT translation is very easy to read and understand. Although it feels heavy and bulky, I definitely recommend this Bible!

Disclosure: I received a complimentary copy of this beautiful Bible through Tyndale House Publishers in exchange for an honest review.

The NLT Illustrated Study Bible is a visually stunning and breathtaking Bible. It is over 2,500 pages of text, illustrations, maps, timelines, and profiles of the characters in the Bible. The pages were printed in Italy, and they are just so delicate and smooth. It is a compilation of many Scholars, Editors, Publishers and Designers in hopes to bring the Bible to life, and made understandable to today's generation. The New Living Translation, or NLT, is a way of putting into English the original context of the Bible and the meanings that were meant to be told and understood. It breaks down the who, what, where, when and how. There is also an accountability for historical reliability, authorship and recommendations for further reading.

I was blown away by this Bible. There is an Introduction and How to Study the Bible section, but it is literally, an all inclusive way to learn the Bible. My husband is in college now studying Theology, and he was amazed by this Bible also. When he has a question over a theological explanation of a piece of scripture, he pulls out his commentaries, books, or the Internet to look at what the meaning behind that specific verse is. The NLT Illustrated Study Bible has it all there from the timelines comparing one specific event to other events in history, to the maps and routes the disciples traveled on. It also has explanations, a Features Index, Dictionary and Index to look up verses, subjects or characters of the Bible.

If you can't tell, I absolutely love this Bible. It brought the characters to life for my sons, in the pictures of some of their favorite people like David and Goliath, or Daniel in the Lion's Den. It shows examples and explains the animals and plants, musical instruments, texts and artifacts, and history of different time periods. This is not only important to me as a homeschool Mom, but also as a Christian wife and mother. It opened my eyes to how the Bible and the stories connect throughout history, and how it is so relevant to us even more today. I would highly recommend this Bible if you are looking for a way to study or understand the scriptures. It would also make an exceptional gift to someone who may be trying to grasp these studies as well.

Reading Bible can be jeopardized with many issues in the daily life of Christians, not enough time, too hard to understand, what’s the application of the verse for my life today… are the questions I’ve asked. And did skip reading the Scriptures. But the Word of God shouldn’t be ignored, nor shouldn’t be skimmed.

It’s the Living Word that gives life, and as much a person spends on the Word, allowing the life to come and work in him or her, that’s how much strength and life is at work inside the inner man.

Tyndale team tried to give an illustrated Bible that would be great for study at the personal level or as a corporation in Bible Study group. I love references and maps in the book. It loaded with information about the subjects that many Christians have questions about.

It a thick book, and I just started to explore it. But even on the first page of Genesis, there is a chart illustration showing how God was creating the Universe, and what day was connected to what. The first day He created the Heavens (the place, atmosphere) and in day 4 He filled with stars, moon and sun. Then in day 2 water and sky were formed, and in day 5 the birds and fish inhabited their places of environment. On day 3, God was working on Earth and the land, preparing the place for His crowning creations to live and be prosperous, and day 6 presented the finishing touches of God’s great creations, animals and human. It was the time when they had their first breaths that day, and then God rested on day 7 to spend time with His creations….Marvelous.

"The Word of God is alive and powerful." Hebrews 4:12 is on the front inside jacket, and this Bible completely lives up to that. "Open my eyes to see the wonderful truths in your instructions." Psalm 119:18 inside the back jacket. What a beautiful way to illustrate just that with this Bible.

Fabulous illustrations, definitions and timelines throughout, the Word in the New Living Translation, with a Study guide and illustrated topics on each page. This is a large, heavy volume that you'll want to keep out and refer to. Great for a "coffee table" book. It will take a long time to go completely through this book, and I haven't compared this translation to the strict King James Version, but I am sure that there are fabulous lessons to learn within. A fabulous gift - any time of year - for yourself or someone you love.
