Chloe is learning more about fashion at her New York City internship than she ever thought possible. Rotating between departments is exciting and exhausting, but manageable. But when roommate issues and a new relationship get added to her already hectic life, will Chloe be able to handle both the fast-paced life of a designer and the drama of being a teenager?
Margaret Gurevich's award-winning Chloe by Design series was billed as a “Project Runway for Teens,” and received praise from School Library Journal, VOYA, Booklist, and Kirkus. She is also the author of books in Penguin Workshop’s Who Was series. Her middle grade novel, Ain’t It Funny (Penguin Workshop, October 2024), has been named a PJ Our Way pick. Her new novel, Yasha’s Amazin’ Bar Mitzvah (Penguin Workshop March 2026), received positive reviews from Kirkus, Booklist, and Publishers Weekly. When not writing, Margaret enjoys hiking, spending time with her family and cat, reading, and streaming too many shows.
Upon finishing her major internship, big things are in store for Chloe, a teenaged fashion design student living on her own in NYC. When some roommate and new boy drama ensues, Chloe ends up with more issues than just fashion.
These books are fun, and I would gladly put them in the hands of many 6th graders and fans of Project Runway. The stories are easy to follow and are filled with plenty of design sketches from the character. I enjoy Chloe's independence and creativity.
The story continues nicely in book 6 but the ending falls flat. It is setting you up to continue on to book 7 but this piece of the story does not come to much of a conclusion.
