Sprookjes uit de Griekse oudheid

Rate this book

The idea of collecting fairy tales is a really nice one, but the language used in them in this translation was quite horrible and uninviting. There were sudden inexplicable switches in tenses, and no tension was built up at all (although the latter might be because they are direct translations from Latin and Greek). Still, it was nice to read these stories, as I hadn't ever heard of some of them before. The best part was definitely the appendix, where parallels with more typically European fairy tales were shown and some background was given.
