Breakfast at Trout's Place: The Seasons of an Alaskan Flyfisher

Rate this book
Ken Marsh will take you on a flyfishing adventure as only a native who has lived and flyfished his entire life in Alaska can. You won’t find a catered, cozy flyfishing camp with protective, professional guides in these stories. Instead, you’ll join Ken and his sometimes crazy, always interesting friends as they flyfish through the seasons in the real Alaska. Through it all, they’re on a search for solitude, for the untrammeled, and for a place where angler and fish can meet in one moment that can’t be taken back or forgotten. It’s the same search all flyfishers are on, but the scale is, like the state itself, much grander than most of the Lower Forty-eight.

Alaska's own Gierach, Ken Marsh reports on the plight of the northern fly angler with humor, brutal honesty, and the credibility that comes only with being a lifelong Alaskan. A great book for any outdoor reader, but especially connective for fishermen who know the urgency of September and the excitement of rising Alaskan grayling.

I really enjoyed this book. Mostly focused on trout fishing, the author explore the lakes and rivers of Alaska searching for to be guided the seasons of the north. Filled with humor this book transmitted information with out ever feeling didactic and filled in gaps in my knowledge of some fishing streams that I will be trying to go to this summer. All in all an enjoyable read that I read mostly in one day, this last saturday, waiting for the greatest catch of my life to come back to me from California.
