No matter how far you run, some demons never stay in the past. For the members of Aicil, the darkness doesn't always recede when the sun comes up.
Unsure if they'll ever find all of the uncover all of the secrets surrounding the entity that threatened Kaylyn's life--and still reeling from the devastation it left behind--the team tries to move on by taking a new case.
An unseen force threatens a family in their own farmhouse and the evidence points to something that has been around for decades. But communication from beyond the divide isn't always what it seems and Kaylyn and Cole are running out of time to determine which threats are deadly and which are simply unanswered pleas for attention.
Solid follow up! Very quick read, just like the 1st. If you're looking for something entertaining, and something you can blow through quickly, I recommend this series.
Immediately after finishing Beyond the Divide I was giving it 4 cows. Before writing this, I reflected over the book for a while and decided to up my rating to 5 cows. Here's why...
To keep it short and simple, I honestly enjoyed it a lot more than Fractured Legacy.
There was so much crammed in to this installment of the series! There was always something happening - whether it was Kaylyn and Cole on their assignment, what was going on in their personal lives, or something that was happening at the office, it was action packed! Even during the quieter moments in the book my brain was still working overtime!
I adore Kaylyn, and her character seemed to grow so much throughout Beyond the Divide. She begins to trust more and open up about what she is feeling.
We are given more on Cole and Jonah's personal lives in this book. It was great learning more about them, and with the next installment in the Fractured Legacy series, Grave Absolution hopefully coming soon, I can't wait to see what direction the story will take.
Beyond the Divide was a captivating story. I was constantly thinking, trying to predict the possible outcomes and I thoroughly enjoyed being back with these characters.
If you have read Fractured Legacy, you really need to read Beyond the Divide and continue Kaylyn and Cole's journey. You won't be disappointed.
I received and ARC as part of the blog tour in exchange for an honest review.
A great sequel to Fractured Legacy! As usual I read it in record time and ...
When's the next one??
Sorry, I'm not one for long winded semi pretentious reviews. If I like a book I like it and I really liked this one. I also don't like picking apart someone else's work. I can only imagine the time and effort it takes to write a book only to have someone critique it. I know authors appreciate honest reviews, but I'll leave the "Book Club dissertations" to the others.
That being said, seeing Kaylyn evolve from the person she was in the first book until now was very interesting. It was almost so subtle I didn't really notice it until late into the book. I also loved the budding romance aspect of Kay and "Sir Ass".
Please please please release book three soon! I've sure we haven't seen the last of the meathead ex boyfriend. Maybe the Teague entity will take care of him? ;)
This story starts off about a week after the end of the first book. A perfect spot to continue and Ms Callahan does a good job at refreshing the reader as she carried on with the story.
The characters have matured a little or have learned to deal with their issues in their own ways. I like how Kaylyn attempts to improve herself but I also wish she would do it for herself and not because she felt responsible and owed that person but I could understand the situation too. I felt sympathetic for Cole in this sequel. She had a lot thrown at her and others were not always exactly helpful or observant of her needs. Jonah was sort of in and out of commission during this story. It was kind of funny how much of a workaholic he is but it's also endearing, I would have missed him if he wasn't there. I really liked the new character, Leon, I sort of wished he had been there from the beginning. I have a little feeling I know what will happen to him and a certain person but for now I'll keep that to myself.
The introduction of the Council was handled well but it felt like they appeared once then disappeared, it was the same with Kaylyn's ex-boyfriends. This was a little confusing because I thought they would be important later in the book but it might be later in the series.
I liked that the story felt a little more complex. In the previous story it seemed to have one main plot with maybe a subplot or two. This time they had two main plots with several subplots in the story to make it more interesting. The writing is still consistently decent in its writing and I still found myself enthralled by the entire story.
I still would consider this story paranormal/mystery based on the majority of problems the characters deal with during the story. Again, the story is still a little slow to me but I believe that the story will unfold more as you read. Unfortunately, for an adrenaline junkie like me, I like having a thrill when I finish a book and I don't feel like I get it when I finished these books. It's a satisfying end but doesn't leave you with a cliffhanger. Still, it's a highly entertaining read and left me with some chills as I felt myself wanting to glance over my shoulder as I read when the characters encountered the paranormal entities.
Again, this is a highly recommended sequel. If you enjoyed the first book, you'll love the second book! I'm looking forward to seeing where Ms. Callahan will take us in the future stories!
3.4 out of 5 rating for me!
(An ARC was provided for an honest review. I was not compensated in any other way.)
Kaylyn and Cole has a new case, an old farmhouse with paranormal activity and entities. As she struggles to understand her past and the file the organization as on her, she pushes forward in her investigation. Kaylyn is struggling to accept Jonah's mother's help in keeping her safe as she grows closer to Jonah. Not as intense as the first story in the series, it is still a page turner. The mystery of the farmhouse is slowly revealed, as Kaylyn learns more about her mother and Jonah's connection to her.
I enjoyed the first book in this series better than this one. I really thought more would happen between the heroine and the boss, but everything was kept rather PG. It was a little bit of a letdown. Also, when I finished this one, there was still no release date or information for the next book. It could be a really good series, but I was starting to lose interest when I couldn't find the next book.
I think I liked this book more than the first one if that is even possible. I liked the investigation they were on in this story better. Even though the first book is what the books are made around. I know that's not explained right. Sorry for that. I do like the characters and even the new one in this book. Leon. Read the first book before this one to understand what's going on. You won't regret it trust me. Do I recommend this book? Yes 100 percent
Considering I got the 1st book free I was skeptical...but once I finished that I HAD to know what was happening. Both books although short reads were excellent and well written. Definitely kept my interest from beginning to end
Very good read, great follow up from first book. Ending was abrupt and I had to go back and re-read to make sure I hadn't missed something. Hope the third book follows along the same lines, I would still recommend the series.
So, I've always been in love with, and intrigued by, the paranormal. I remember checking books out of my middle school library about Bigfoot and Nessie
