If everyone read and applied every proverb in this book, life would be a much more wonderful place. Seriously. This book is full of nuggets of truth upon which to build your life. It applies to almost everything you can think of. Every time I read this, I’m blown away by the wisdom and truth of it... Read Proverbs. Frequently. Then live out Proverbs. Constantly.
Even though I read the book of Proverbs twelve times a year, I always get something out of it! There is so much wisdom and admonition that I need from this book!
Proverbs is just one of those books you can read over and over again and still learn something new every time. I mean, the whole Bible is like that, but yeah. 😁
One of my favorites. I'll come back to this to add some verses that stood out to me.
3:5 - Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. 3:13 - Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding. 3:24 - When thou liest down, thou shalt not be afraid: yea, thou shalt lie down, and thy sleep shall be sweet. 4:13 - Take fast hold of instruction; let her not go: keep her; for she is thy life. 12:15 - The way of the fool is right in his own eyes: but he that hearkeneth unto counsel is wise. 14:12-13 - There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death. Even in laughter the heart is sorrowful; and the end of that mirth is heaviness.
So many nuggets of wisdom. Hard to pick just a few favorites.
“Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised.” Proverbs 31:30 KJV
“Remove far from me vanity and lies: give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with food convenient for me: Lest I be full, and deny thee, and say, Who is the Lord? or lest I be poor, and steal, and take the name of my God in vain.” Proverbs 30:8-9 KJV
“The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in the Lord shall be safe.” Proverbs 29:25 KJV
“Where no wood is, there the fire goeth out: so where there is no talebearer, the strife ceaseth.” Proverbs 26:20 KJV
“By humility and the fear of the Lord are riches, and honour, and life.” Proverbs 22:4 KJV
“Whoso keepeth his mouth and his tongue keepeth his soul from troubles.” Proverbs 21:23 KJV
“A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.” Proverbs 17:22 KJV
The book of wisdom. This book has taught me so much about life. Proverbs is a road map to health, wealth, peace and protection. It is a good book to read a chapter a day of to gain, knowledge, insight and understanding.
Read two or three a night with the kids and discussed. Proverbs is not meant to be read in one sitting. You need to chew on it. There are many comparisons and contrasts that are made to get you to think and ponder and figure out a connection or illustration from. Don't read it to get one single lesson out of a comparison because there are many that could be gleaned. This is the beginning of wisdom and it repays frequent restudy.
A series of precepts and wise advice given by King Solomon and others during his reign as King of Israel. It teaches how to find wisdom and how to live a good life with your fellow man as you strive to live in a way that pleases God.
Solomon wrote many more proverbs than in the Book of Proverbs BUT these are inspired of God making them inerrant, infallible and without peer in the world of proverbs. Wise men are still men and subject to the foibles of men hence the need [one of them at least] for the Word of God.
