About the author

Christopher R. "Chris" Bunch was an American science fiction, fantasy and television writer, who wrote and co-wrote about thirty novels.

Born in Fresno, California, he collaborated with Allan Cole on a series of books involving a hero named Sten in a galactic empire. (Cole married Bunch's sister, Kathryn.) He served in Vietnam as a patrol leader. He also wrote for Rolling Stone and was a correspondent for Stars and Stripes. He died in his hometown of Ilwaco, Washington, after a long battle with a lung ailment.

V druhé části trilogie se opět můžeme těšit na další boje ve vzduchu. Hal sedí ve vězení a hodně mě překvapilo, že na jeho velkou důležitost vlastně téměř není hlídaný. Ono nad inteligencí nepřátel je zbytečné jakkoliv hloubat. Celá kniha je velmi táhlá až nudná. Tedy kromě konce, který velmi rychle konči zrovna v nejživější části celé knihy.

The Dragonmaster series has always been a old favorite of mine when it comes to militaristic sci-fi. The series follows the life of Hal. Beginning in the early years of his life as a nomad to leading the strongest group of dragonriders against the forces of evil and darkness.

Le dragon replia ses ailes et parti en torche dans une chute interminable!

Bon passez de 4 à 2 étoiles, je suis sévère mais je m'explique.

D'une part, je pense que ce tome est complètement inutile et aurait pu se résumer à 10 pages. Certes, il y a des actions, style commando à gauche ou a droite mais rien dans ce livre ne fait vraiment avancer l'histoire. Le récit tourne autour du pot en jouant de superficialité

D'autre part, j'ai eu l'impression de lire une série de Buck Danny sur lesquels mon petit frère aurait dessiné des dragons sur les avions. Les dragons sont amalgamés à des avions en formation et leur coté mystérieux disparait complètement. A force de vouloir rendre le récit réaliste, l'auteur perd tout crédit au niveau des aspects "Fantasy" de son histoire et ce n'est pas un golem de pierre mis là pour la parade qui va changer la donne.

Certes, la lecture fut agréable mais à force de s'ennuyer dans une histoire cousue de fils blancs, on regarde l'écriture d'un peu plus près et force est de constater que le style n'est pas non plus à la hauteur. Les personnages restent creux et le héros, à force de tergiverser sur son coté romantique face à son besoin d'action, perd pas mal de point en terme de charisme.

Si le premier tome était plein de promesse et permettait de faire abstraction du style, ce deuxième tome se rèvèle ennuyeux et décevant.Je ne laisse pas tomber le tome 3 mais je m'attends guère à de grandes révélations.

Finally you can see some excitement here. the blend between the war and the magic is proporsional. From book 1 to this I feel the war become more and more modern-like. Every strategy is based on our war, I think.

An excellent continuation of Dragonmaster. Bunch keeps up his excellent style and keeps the story and action interesting. A good ending to the story he set up in Dragonmaster as well.

I wanted more about the dragons and less about the war- but that would have been a different book and a different author.
