Anamnesis: A Novel

Rate this book
When Ethan Knight wakes up on Alki Beach in Seattle, he has no memory of the last four years, and only fragments of his early life. Disoriented and experiencing drug withdrawal, he quickly finds himself assimilated into a life of crime. Unable to go to the police for help, Ethan abandons any hope of remembering his past.
Now, seven years later, a dangerous drug arrives on the streets that interferes with the brain's ability to record memories. When affluent campaign manager Olivia Holloway shows up on Ethan's doorstep claiming she's losing time like he did, he realizes that with her help, he may finally unravel the mystery that has long plagued him.
As Ethan and Olivia embark on a fast-paced journey to reclaim their minds, they expose a complex web of greed, corruption, and sex that is far more twisted than either anticipated.

Great, dark read.

Engaging, thought provoking and troubling. The seamy side of life is revealed as you discover with Ethan the secrets behind his amnesia. The characters were compelling and believable.

Right up to the end

Great book, kept me interested throughout. I felt like the ending was a cop out.
Still, I’d recommend it because it was well written.

This book was a total surprise as I did not expect it to be what it turned out to be. I thought it was quite original and wish Eloise would write more novels.

I'm familiar with Eloise Knapp for her apocalypse novels, which are excellent. “Anamnesis” is her latest novel, and it’s a totally different genre. It’s a thriller, no zombies at all. I wasn’t sure what to expect when picking this up, but I was pleasantly surprised. She completely delivers in this one, and it’s very clear that her ability to plot and maintain tension throughout a story is approaching stellar. The novel introduces us to Ethan, a drug selling junkie with several years missing from his memory. Yet he has never really cared to look into why that is. Along the way, he meets Olivia, who seeks him out because her story is similar. Olivia is high class and a bit prissy, so having these two characters thrown together in a common cause is quite a wonderful thing to behold. They set out together, at arms length, to solve the mystery of what has happened to them. What they find is a sordid tale that grows more and more sinister. I really liked the character of Ethan, he was funny, a bit crass, with a totally doesn’t give a crap attitude. Just getting by. Knapp has a talent with dialogue and creating believable characters, and she does so again here. I really hope she continues writing in this genre. A great read packed with tension and surprise. I highly recommend it.

Twisted Page Turner!

What a trip! This mystery thriller is dark, dirty, and unrelenting when it comes to solving the story of Ethan Knight and his mysterious beginnings.
The character development was fantastic and Knapp does an amazing job creating every gory scene in the book.
Definitely not for the faint-hearted but this book will keep you reading and wanting more.

REALLY GOOD READ

This was an unexpected enjoyment. I honestly didn't think I was going to be impressed but I was wrong. It kept my attention to the point I couldn't put it down. If you're looking for a chance to relax and forget your troubles, read this book. :)

RECOMMEND. :)

A bit weird, but interesting

Having worked with people that were addicted and or recovering, understand that people are actually living a somewhat similar life. It is unfortunate.
