Pathways to Art Appreciation is a source book for the art educator for the teaching of art appreciation at all levels. Content strands are carried throughout the book. Each chapter opens with a general discussion about various approaches to the study of art related to the "teaching of art appreciation." Instructional strategies and art activities are presented in a separate "Things to Do" section At the close of each chapter, "Assessment Strategies" that contribute to the teaching of art appreciation are addressed. Formative and summative assessment activities can be found throughout the book. Many instructional approaches in the "Things to Do" strand are dual purpose, being applicable to assessment and to instruction. This book accomplishes two to help dispel the unnecessary mystique surrounding art appreciation, and to clarify the significant ways in which this far-reaching subject can excite, motivate, and enhance the lives of students. It serves as a resource for the teacher who desires to enhance and expand the teaching of art appreciation in the classroom.
