Sometimes wanting to protect someone, even out of love is crippling that person’s ability to protect themselves and that is exactly what MJ is doing with Maddy. Maddy is mortal, but she has “gifts” that she shouldn’t have and everyone in the supernatural world wants her, but not all them have her best interests at heart. She’s come through demon attacks, the loss of a friend and all she wants now is “normal.” For Maddy there can be no normal and only stepped up angelic protection stands between her and the demons on her tail. Are ALL of the demons out to use her? Are all of the angels out to protect her? What kind of world is she living in when the good guys seem bad and the bad guys seem good? Who and what is Maddy? The big question is still out there, waiting to be answered, but if she is killed or captured, will it really matter? Is MJ’s closeness more like a bad guy magnet than a safety shield? People are never who they truly seem and Maddy is finding that out in the most devastating ways.

Truths can hurt, but lies leave scars and right now Maddy is scarred and scared. It doesn’t help that Justin is creeping around again, but has he changed sides, too or just his demonic game plan to control Maddy?

I thought Unclaimed had me balancing on the edge of my seat, growing dizzy from all the twists and turns, but Laurie Wetzel’s second addition to the series, Ignited has upped the tension another notch! Once again, changing POVs, we see Maddy’s world from the hearts and minds of Maddy, MJ and even Justin and still, things are not looking great for Maddy.

Laurie Wetzel is a powerful writer, her imagination and patience in only dribbling out small portions of information is almost torturous, but, I love it! Every page is like stepping a little further in the world she has created, so tread carefully through the maze of this incredible tale! Ms. Wetzel has raised the bar for herself, once again!

Oh, every emotion Maddy has affects the weather; think about that the next time a huge storm blows in…that thunder? It may be more than angels bowling.

I received a review copy from Laurie Wetzel in exchange for my honest review.

I thought this book was ok. Most of the time I only read books in order, but sometimes you can read one out of order and it's fine as a stand alone. This was not the case with this book, you really need to read the first book. Most of the beginning of the book makes references to the first book and with the in-depth storyline you need to know what all is going on.

You have Maddy, who is a human and MJ, who is an angel that she is love with. Something really major went down in the first book so I was kind of lost most of the time.

There were other people, angels, demons in the book. They kept going in and out dreams using essences from the demons and the angels. They can also alter your reality as well.

I do believe this is a good book in general, it has the potential to be a good trilogy or series. So, don't give up on the book by my review, just start from the first one. I'm intrigued enough to read the first one at some point and then this one again.

**I would like to thank NETGALLEY and WISE INK CREATIVE PUBLISHING for giving me the opportunity to read this ARC in exchange for my honest review.**

I didn't know this was the second book in a series when I received it as an ARC and I didn't read the first book so my review is based purely on the second book. I enjoyed this book more than I thought I would after the first few chapters. The romance between MJ and Maddy annoyed me because it's way too sickly sweet and they've only known each other a few days so as someone who doesn't really like romance in books I couldn't accept it. I loved the mythology of the angels and demons and each castes roles because it incorporated new things in with accepted mythologies which I always enjoy. The mysteries of Maddy's powers and the serial killer were fun to read and were my favourite parts of the book. The pacing of the book was good for the most part, the romantic parts dragged a little though. The last thing I wanted to say in my review was about the idea of the essences of angels and demons being able to influence and control the emotions of humans. I loved it when it was used by the demons because it made sense and their characters used it well but the idea of MJ using his essence to constantly make Maddy's fears and worries go away really annoyed me. It felt like she wasn't allowed to have her own feelings and that their entire relationship was controlled by his desires. Maddy is this helpless victim the entire book even with these amazing mysterious powers she has. I hope this is dealt with in the third book which I hope to read to answer my questions still unanswered about Maddy and the murders.

This is book 2 in the series.

Seeing as how the first book was my first paranormal which didnt really feel liek a paranormal until closer to the end this one kicks it off pretty much from the beginning. For me this was a slow kind of book. One that kept my interest but yet at the same time I was not trying to finish it in one sitting like most books I read.

But do not let that discourage you please because this book was good. I think paranormal are just not my thing personally. I will say that I would like to read the next one that does come out after this to see what ends up happening and where things go. There is a mysterious Demon girl that we find out about in book 2 but we dont know who she is or anything,

With Ignited you get more attached to the characters than you did in the first book. which for me is always something I love. I like being able to feel like I am there and could be friends with the people I am reading about.

I received this book in advance through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you NetGalley and Wise Ink Creative Publishing for letting me read this book in advance!

When I first picked this book up, I was really confused about why Laurie was starting her book the day after the major action. I went almost a quarter into the book before realizing that it was actually book 2 in the Unclaimed series. However, this should just tell you how great of a writer Laurie is. Someone honestly could pick up this book and read the entire thing without knowing what happened in the previous book because she fills you in whenever she can with what you need to know. That is something I love to see in series as it allows new readers to follow along without having to pick up the old books. While I bet it makes more sense if you read the first book, Laurie did a great job of catering to new readers in this sequel. Props to a great writer!

That being said, I do have a couple issues with the book, all of which are focused on timing. The book itself travels the course of a few days, which I don’t mind. I’ve read plenty of books where all of the action occurs in a very short amount of time. However, we are somehow supposed to believe our two main characters – Maddy and MJ – fall in love in just a matter of days. Not just that, but that she broke up with her boyfriend Ben a day before he died and is already dating someone else. Even with supernatural forces worrying them both, I just can’t realistically believe it. I still enjoyed the kissing scenes provided – there are plenty of well-written ones to go around – but it was harder to accept this romance as realistic.

The other timing issue was the ending. I felt that it was just way too rushed, considering everything else that had just happened. I’m not going to give away the ending at all, but the last few chapters just seemed to be thrown in there to get us to go into the next book. And while I loved how Laurie made the bathroom scene go down, I just felt that it was all too much, too soon. I don’t know how else it could have been written, but I just wished we had more of what happened to Elizabeth sooner (without the big reveal) and a prolonged version of the final Maddy action. I mean, it would have been nice to see how Justin figured out her weakness! It was his dilemma the entire book and then bam, one of the last chapters and he just knows it – a little bit of a letdown for me.

As for character development, I didn’t see much change. Maddy seemed to just be a puppet the entire book. While she did stand up for herself once (it was my favorite part of the book when she finally told off MJ for keeping things from her!) during the course of the story, the rest of the time she just let it all happen. I especially hated the whole part of MJ using his essence to calm her down. It was weird and creepy and totally controlling of him. It was almost as if he didn’t think her emotions were valid enough to be felt. He totally idolizes her for allowing him to feel emotions after so long, yet cuts hers down by forcing her to calm down whenever he feels like it. Totally controlling. I also hated how she didn’t even fight MJ’s orders about what to do on that first day of school. What gave him the right to tell her what to do for the entire day? For a good guy, MJ was totally bad. MJ wasn’t the only one controlling Maddy either. It seemed every person in the book at some point told Maddy what to do and she just did it without question. I’m just really hoping she takes a stand, shows of her independence, and protects herself in the next book instead of continuing to cower in the corner and need everyone else to protect her.

I think the best aspects of Ignited were the lore of the supernatural world and the writing itself. Laurie created this whole different image of angels vs. demons that I just haven’t seen before. The different castes of both the demons and the angels were interesting to learn about. I hope we see more about the 12 different demon castes in the next book and learn about what the bracelet glowing gray meant. I also LOVED how she added an almost Greek-god mythological twist into the typical Christian one by having the archangels act, well, human. Instead of being these perfect beings who do everything in the name of good, we see them feel emotion; we see their anger, their pride, even narcissism if you count how they went down to Earth and had statues made out of their likeness. Even the supernatural elements were fantastic, especially the mystery of how Maddy got her powers. All of this drew me in so quickly that I’m actually really excited to read the next one.

The writing itself was pretty enjoyable. Laurie adopts multiple points of view throughout the book to make it interesting. I especially loved reading from both Maddy and MJ’s perspectives on the same event, especially when the perspectives conflicted. She also made the jump from real-time perspective to the visions/dreams relatively easy to follow. There were a couple instances where Laurie was a little listy in her descriptions (for instance, when telling us about the different types of angels – it was just thrown in there in a listy fashion instead of blended in nicely) but for the most part, she intertwined the information, action, and description in a way that made it easy to imagine what was happening. And as I said earlier, she writes in a way that caters to everyone: new readers can pick it up, follow along, and still enjoy it, but old readers can continue the story they fell in love with the first time around.

All in all, I had some issues with the realistic nature of the romance and the pacing of the book itself, but I loved the plotline, the world and its lore, and I enjoyed her writing. I HIGHLY recommend you read the first book in the series before diving into this one, but if you don’t, I still think you can follow along in the story. I can’t wait to see where the story takes us in the next book, especially finding out more about Maddy’s ability and her past.

Maddy's popularity is increasing ...but is far from what she wants!

The Unclaimed saga continues as Maddy's and MJ's relationship continue to push the "boundaries. How much longer can MJ keep her hidden and protected? He has failed countless times.

New characters are introduced un this sequel who are described effectively and feel just as real! Along with new characters come more intense challenges. Also, Maddy is given the painful opportunity to witness a different facet of evil characters she never considered before. Will anyone be
able to stop the negative forces? Will Maddy learn to control her abilities in time to save herself..to save others?
Evil forces prevail. Can Maddy prevent self destruction and an Armageddon?

The reader's interest is kept and it has some interesting twists and surprises, yet, some of the story feels beleaguered and the ending weak. The
reader feels like he/she is left slightly "hanging" although the desire for the continuation is still strong.

The Book Cover and Title are appropriate.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for a honest review....

.... Um, I hate you? Is that honesty enough?

I definitely had a live hate relationship with the first book and its now completely turned hate.

Yes, I mean hate - not just dislike.

It's had all the downfalls of the overprotective 'Twilight-Edward-Bella' relationship going except, Madison actually had bad arse power and just chooses to be a whiny little brat-tastic victim.

Not to mention, it just sucks.

Have I said how much I hate it?

**Thank you to Netgalley, Wise Ink Publishing and Laurie Wetzel for the Digital Advanced Readers Copy of Ignited. **

Ignited starts right where Unclaimed ended. Maddy and MJ try to get to know each other a bit more. After going through that whole Justin ordeal, their feelings for one another have grown stronger. MJ wants to keep protecting Maddy, she is his everything. So he gets his fellow Protectors to help him protect Maddy, Amber and the town.

Let's just say that when Maddy meets the crew of angels, things don't go well, there's threats, fire, earthquakes, yeah it didn't go well.....Maddy also meets a Masked demon, you don't really know what are the demons motives. Demons are bad but this one says that her and her master are there to help hhmmm, I don't know, seems fishy.

We learn more about MJs past, which was the big mystery in the first book. He didn't want to say anything about himself, but now we know how he died and who was responsible. MJ was a friend/warrior/Protector in the past and now he's fighting to protect Maddy even if he's going against the heavenly rules. MJ also explains the difference in every angel (Archangel/Protectors/Guardians/regular angels)and how a color tells them apart. He also gets a cool new weapon. He really cares about Maddy, I think that's sweet.

In Ignited, once in a while we also read through Justin's POV. We get to see what he really feels towards Maddy. If you ask me its more like an obsession. Some times you learn good things about him and it confuses you and other times you remember that he's a demon and a bad guy, and nothing good can come from him. Along the way we learn about his past, it really surprises you. You never know what people go through. He was a good guy once but something terrible happened to him and he did something that led him to where he is. You feel bad, so that's where the confusion comes in play. You just want to like him but he's up to something, you just never know. Oh and he likes to watch Maddy sleep, creepppyyy!!!! Okay MJ does the same,, double creeepppyyy!!!

In this book you don't really get many dreams about Elizabeth and Damien. I liked learning more about them, they are still a mystery and now Elizabeth is missing. Dun dun duunn and where's Damien? We haven't heard from that guy.

Maddy and MJ have their good cute moments, even though they've only known each other for six days, they are in love with each other. Okay that's just not realistic. I think MJ loves her cus he never had loved someone before and because Maddy's touch is waking up all these feelings in him, maybe love is the strongest. But I still think it's too soon, especially after what happened to Ben. There's good moments and there's also bad ones. Yeah they fight mostly cus they lie and keep secrets right after they promised each other they wouldn't, doesn't that always happen. But wouldn't anyone want a cute, cheesy, relationship. Yeah they have their cheesy moments.

We also see more of Maddy's abilities. No body understands them. They don't know why she has them. MJ hates that's he can't help her when she dreams. He is in pain watching her suffer. When Maddy gets mad, there's thunder and lightning and ground shaking, even the angels get scared. She's something they've never seen before. I think her abilities are pretty cool, she can change the weather with her emotions, that can help her but it also sucks that everyone can see what your feeling. Sometimes you just want to keep that to yourself. We learn of other abilities but I'm not trying to spoil it. It's kind of like she can do anything. From the emotional weather, to visions and dreams and hey many more.

Maddy wanted to fight for herself, she's had training by her uncle Duane, so she can if needs to but she also does become the girl that wants to give up and doesn't believe in herself. She has abilities so she can use does but she still doesn't really know how to control them. MJ, he is very protective, I mean very, but things do happened even on his watch. I know that he wants to help Maddy and protect her from pain emotionally and physically but sometimes Maddy wanted to feel pain, she wanted the scars to remind her of what she's been through but MJ was there taking that away from her with his essence, a bit controlling if you ask me. It's something she should experience , she can grow stronger and know that she can get through it on her own, and that's why she gets mad at him, for using his angelic abilities not only on her but on humanity.

In this sequel we find out many things, new abilities, new beings, new threats, new revelations. I did enjoy reading about Maddy and MJs forbidden love. It's cute :) and i also like reading about angels, they're all different, they all have their stories to tell. The ending was crazy, I wasn't expecting that. It was painful. It just makes you want to get your hands on the third book to see what happens to Maddy and learn more about her abilities and about the angels. Will Maddy and MJ be together? Will Justin change for the better? Will there be more killings? Will that killer be stopped? Dun dun duuunnn.. :-) :-) :-)

Review

'Ignited' is the second novel in the 'Unclaimed' series and one I was REALLY looking forward to. Why should you continue to read the ‘Unclaimed’ series or even pick it up? Because it’s an EPIC continuation of the series. Needless to say, there’s lots of action, adventure and tragedy. ‘Ignited’ has a beautiful and gorgeous world that absolutely enchanted me.
The relationship between Maddy and MJ continues to grow; they really DO make a GREAT couple. MJ is ever the gentleman and always so attentive to Maddy. He harbours really deep feelings for her and I admire the fact that he doesn't act like some hormonal filled drunkie who lusts for her JUST because he has finally got the ability to feel and experience emotions. I think what would have made the story even more dramatic was if Maddy and MJ did not experience that insta-love which is so typical of novels such as these. I would have actually enjoyed seeing them grow as a couple and I think I would have ‘shipped’ their relationship more if they GREW into their love and relationship.
One thing I realised about this novel and the previous is that they take place over a very short amount of time. For example, 'Unclaimed' takes place over only FIVE DAYS! But there is SOOOOO much content! A whole HEAP happens in the first (P.S. Of you haven't read it, go do it NOW! There is a reason I gave it a five star!). I really didn't realise that it took place over such a short amount of time until Maddy tells MJ that they only met six DAYS ago. ('Ignited' starts straight after the end of 'Unclaimed'.) This really reinforces my wish that the insta-love that they experience did not take place. I really wished that the period of time was lengthened. Or at least the author could have put "Day 1" or something similar at the top of each chapter so that readers are able to remember how long ago these events happened. It really boggled my mind.
Even MORE shocking secrets and surprises are revealed; I started to find this tiring. The steady pace allowed me to process all the information the author was giving me but I found that the many, many, MANY revelations to be exhausting. Maddy literally goes through SO MUCH! It's like at every turn something else happens at EVERY DAMN TURN! Phew, I don't know how she does it!
For some strange reason I was left less satisfied with this novel than the first. I was so absolutely CHARMED with the first but the second just seemed to loose its attractiveness around a third of the way through. As I previously said, soooo much stuff happens that I found it distracting and just...too much.
The novel is told in first person narration with three different perspectives: Maddy's, MJ's and Justin's. Their perspectives alternate every chapter. I enjoyed reading from Justin’s perspective as it gave me a new insight into who he is. He seemed like such a villain through and through in 'Unclaimed' but I realised that there was more to him due to his chapters in 'Ignited'.
Whilst reading I spotted no grammar mistakes or spelling and typing errors in this ARC. The writing was excellent; I was pretty impressed with its quality - just like the first novel, 'Unclaimed'.
The ending was okay; not too shabby, but it wasn’t a wowser in my opinion. There was a definite cliff-hanger but it didn't incite a "NOOOOOOOO!" from me.
The author had also kindly replied to my question from my previous review. I asked her if by any chance she was actually using a pen name and that she had already published before. I thought maybe that was why she wrote so well! To my dismay, she replied that Laurie Wetzel was her real name. I guess I'm no Sherlock Holmes after all. :)
Congratulations to Laurie Wetzel on the publication of her second novel!

Rating Plan
1 star : Strongly did not like the book, writing and plot was bad. Idea of the book was against my liking.
2 star : Didn't like it, didn't find it interesting or gripping. Seemed to drag on to me.
3 star : An average book. Wasn't bad or good. Everything else was well done. Original idea.
4 star : Like a 3 star but has potential to it as a series or the book grew on me as it progressed and certain scenes captured me. I Enjoyed it and read it in one sitting.
5 star : I LOVED IT! I stayed up late until 3 am. Author is a genius, characters, plot, idea, development, EVERYTHING was EXCELLENT. Nothing else can possibly be said except that its 5 STAR!

Maddy and MJ are back at last in the second book in the Unclaimed series. I read the previous book a few months ago and was really looking forward to this one. While I enjoyed the first book it left a lot of questions unanswered and I was keen to get to the truth of who or what is Maddy?

The story picks up immediately after the first book with Maddy recovering from her ordeal at the hands of demon Justin, starting a relationship with angel and Protector MJ and learning how to control her newly discovered powers. While she could probably have done with a bit of down time to adjust to all the changes the action kicks in again almost immediately. Justin's obsession with her is growing and he's even more determined to get her to sign over her soul to him. In addition, her inability to keep control of her powers starts to bring her to the attention of more angels and demons and possibly the serial killer from the first book.

To top it all off her new relationship starts to run into problems as she finds out some things about MJ she doesn't like and he becomes overprotective, controlling and secretive.

Overall I think this has the potential to be a really great book. All of the key ingredients are there, a strong female lead, forbidden love, discovering powers and heaven and hell on the brink of all out war but it just doesn't quite work yet.

For me this book suffers from a lot of the same issues as the previous one. The beginning is confused. There is too much thrown in, a lot of different characters, new words and new worlds and not enough explanation. I'd read the first book and I was a little confused with this so I'm not sure how new readers would cope. This is probably not helped by the narration switching between the characters of Maddy, MJ and Justin. If this was simplified it would be so much better.

There are a few characters that I think could be cut quite easily such as her group of friends whose names I can't even remember because they appear so briefly and there are so many of them. As Maddy is supposedly a bit of a loner who pushes people away it doesn't seem consistent to her character to have half a dozen close friends. There were also a few scenes I didn't see the point of but who knows perhaps they will be important in future books.

What I did like in this book however was some of the new characters. I got to meet and learn more about some of the other Protectors with my particular favourite being Alexander. I found out more about both heaven and hell and the hierarchy of each and through Maddy's dreams we found some answers to some of the questions (although there are still a lot more unanswered).

Once I got to the halfway point I have to admit I was starting to really enjoy it but I am frustrated because it could be so much better. I will still recommend it (if you've read Unclaimed first) and I will no doubt read the next one because I want to know what happens.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review.

This is the second book in the series and you must read them in order. MJ and Maddie are dating and in love, but will they ever really get a chance to just be? Maddie has survived an attack that killed her ex-boyfriend and left her very weak. Word about her is spreading and they are going to need more help than ever before. Justin has learned that just because the acquisitioner gave him the contract doesn’t mean that he is going to get what he wants. The acquisitioner is using him too. He really just wants Maddie for her abilities and how they will help him become the new devil. MJ is determined to do whatever he needs to for Maddie to be safe. They are learning more about the entities that help her and about her dreams. Maddie is once again faced with learning some painful truths about her past and her future. Will Maddie be safe even with all the help she has? Will MJ and Maddie find a way for the relationship to work and begin to tell each other everything even if it upsets the other person? This book once again has lots of twists and turns. Justin has changed since he learned that he won’t have the future he wanted with Maddie and the real reason the acquisioner gave him what he asked for. Now he is on a time line and has found ways to evade the angels. Everything is changing and heading toward a war between angels and demons. What will that mean for earth? Maddie is making everyone see things differently and not just because she can make them feel. This book ends with a cliffhanger that has me wanting the next book now! Things are just starting to heat up and I can’t wait to find out what happens next. Again this book drew me in and I didn’t want to put it down or for it to end. Great job Laurie.

This is book 2 in the series and you do need to read book 1 first.

This is a YA paranormal where Maddy is the main protagonist who in this book is just learning to deal with the supernatural powers she has, unaware how or why she has these powers, her supernatural Angel boyfriend MJ and his team of Angel Protectors try to solve the mystery of the demon serial killer who is stalking and killing girls the same age and looks as Maddy.

This is a typical YA Paranormal scenario - girl in danger, boy saves girl, girl falls for the hero... And it's also got the typical keep the facts and important stuff from the poor heroine so she does silly stuff putting her in danger!

Don't get me wrong I enjoyed this book and also the first book, but this keeping secrets scenario that is quite common in YA PNR is just getting a bit predictable, and I would love to read a book where the main characters are up front with each other... I mean come on... When you know that there are demons coming for the one you love and you get her a bracelet that will warn her of any in close proximity, wouldn't you explain this to her?

The book is a slow burner, and by the end of the book we find out a few more clues to why the demons are after Maddy, but the story will continue in the next book.

If you are a fan of the Hush Hush series, then I think you will enjoy this series, I want to know who the mystery demon girl is, why Justin is so hell bent on trying to get her soul, but at the same time save her!

Not much time is lost from when Unclaimed ends and Ignited begins, one day later we get to dive back into Maddy's story. MJ and Maddy are becoming closer than ever, after everything that's happened it's hard for Maddy not to realize how much he means to her. She struggles when the town's memory has to be modified in order to cover up Justin's presence, she opened up so much to her family in such a short amount of time, and now they too have forgotten what happened.

Maddy and MJ have become inseparable, and MJ has brought in reinforcements to protect her at all times. We know both heaven and hell would kill Maddy on sight, or worse in the case of hell, use her abilities against heaven in order to gain control and power over everyone and everything. Maddy is challenged a lot in this book, both mentally and physically. She's trying to open up more to MJ, and she's also trying to figure out her abilities. She's so used to everything coming so easy to her, that not being able to control them is driving her crazy.

But her one constant and one of the only sources of happiness Maddy has is MJ. But there are evil forces at work that they don't know of. Forces that want her to sign the binding agreement she narrowly missed before. Justin is back, and he will do whatever he must to get to Maddy.

Couldn't be more thrilled with this sequel! I was so enthralled the entire time reading, it's just as addicting as the first book. And we also get to learn more about the visions Maddy has and what that could mean in the future.

Firstly I would like to thank the lovely Laurie & NetGalley for kindly providing me with a copy of "Ignited" to read and review

I must admit having an "Angel" as your boyfriend sounds pretty amazing, I mean com'on....HE'S A FREAKING, FEATHER WINGED, GOWN WEARING, OTHER WORLDLY ANGEL!

After learning of the abilities and the fact that there getting stronger by the day Maddy is being hunted by demons who want to use her and the possibility of being hunted by the Angels too, well that's if MJ can keep her hidden any longer....?

We are introduced to some new characters in "Ignited", who are described effectively and feel just as real as they would be if you met them like every other Joe blogs on the side-walk...

Will Maddy be able to handle her powers/abilities?

Can she trust MJ and his fellow Angelic friends?

Will she finally find out the truth of her parents?

What will happen when Evil finally catches up on her?

I would highly recommend this book and series to any reader.

There is a lot of suspense and supernatural things going on, but I don't want to give anything away. Just be sure to read it and create your own imagination.

Ignited has a lot of twists and turns, mystery and intrigue, always one to keep us readers on our toes.

Thank you to Netgalley, Wise Ink Publishing and Laurie Wetzel for the Advanced Reader Copy of Ignited.

As the second book in the Unclaimed series, I could not wait to get my hands on it and it did not disappoint. With Maddy now aware of her powers, I loved the power play that comes into affect in this book. The fight for her soul becomes much more real and present in this story, and I thoroughly enjoyed delving into the angel/demon sides more.

My only negative thought behind this book is that I wanted the story to move faster. I was expecting a bigger event at the end, but it still was a satisfying read. Also, it made me much more excited for the next book and I can’t believe I have to wait awhile for it considering this one isn’t out yet.

I became much more attached to the characters and their story in this book than in the last. My emotional investment was tripled in these characters and my desire for their success was a very real thought throughout this book.

I would highly recommend this book and series to any reader. I felt the writing is very well constructed and the characters are complex, all of which made a very compelling story. If you are slightly interested, definitely check it out!

4.5 Stars

Maddy has been through allot in a short amount of time, but even more heartache is coming her way. In order to protect not only herself, but those around her she has to figure out how to control her powers. As more and more of them present themselves to her figuring out those powers becomes harder and harder.

Learning more about herself and her past is only the beginning, there's also learning more about MJ, and those around her as well as who and what it is that is after her. And everything combined makes for an interesting and hectic life.

We see Maddy happier than she was in book 1 but we also see more of the sadness and sorrows she faces as she learns to trust others and acccept who she is.

MJ is a sweetie and is still learning what it means to have emotions and sometimes he choses to do things the wrong way, but he does it for the right reasons and it endears him all the more to me. He is a protector and that's not just his title, but an ingrained part of who he is and he does whatever he can to protect those he cares for.

We learn more about those after Maddy and why and it has made me even more excited to see even more of this series. With twists and turns around every corner just when you think you know whats going on you get another surprise!

I struggled to read this book which was really disappointing since I was such a huge fan of Unclaimed (Book 1). It just didn't captivate me and pull me in, I found myself bored and felt as if the book was going on and on. The book starts off and you are thrown a ton of information, as in if you didn't read the first book within the past month or two you are going to be lost and confused. Regardless you are going to be confused.

Then the book picks up pace but then you start changing chapter perspectives. This was bothersome because there are already over 20 secondary characters you have to keep straight in your mind. This is obviously a fantasy, angel versus demons book. For some reason in this book, Laurie thought to repetitively use the phrase "the Father" as a reference to God; however, this never happened in book 1. The angels kept thanking the Father and praying to the Father and it got to the point where I was becoming annoyed with it. Needless to say this sequel fell flat of my expectations.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review. This book was definitely better than the first in the series. I liked the characters better and the mystery of Maddy and all her strange powers is great. I absolutely loved Justin as the villain. He was so creepy and evil that he literally made my skin crawl. While there were great things in the book I didn't absolutely love it, but I really can't say why. The only thing I can think of is that maybe it is because of how dependent Maddy is on MJ. It is great how much they love each other but Maddy seriously needs him touching her to feel complete. I get that it is an important part of the story line but I wish it wasn't quite so extreme. While I am far from a feminist, I also don't like girls getting the message that they cannot be complete without a guy in their lives. Girls need to be told they are enough on their own. Maybe I just couldn't get passed this enough to rate it higher.

A Good Read That Should Be Read AFTER Book 1 in the Series!
"After surviving an attack from a demon that killed her friend, Maddy Page thought the worst was over.
It’s not."
This was a good read overall, I was told that this book can be read as a standalone, but I really thin that if I had read the first book I would have been much more in tune with everything that was going on. That being said the book was very interesting and I do fully intend to go back and read the first book. I usually don't like to read books out of order whether it says that they can be read as a standalone or not. I was able to grasp what was going on and really get into the story. I really enjoyed the authors writing style and the story itself. As I said I will be going back to read the first book in the series and was left hanging a bit by the ending of this book and hope to read the next as well. I was provided a free copy of this book by NetGalley for an honest review.

Laurie Wetzel is a good story teller with a great imagination coming together in this story about a girl who has a tremendous amount of power that she just came into but doesn’t really know how to control. Due to this power she is being hunted by demons who want to use her and would be hunted by the Angels as well if she wasn’t dating one of them. In the midst of this, she is trying to cope with the fact that she is adopted, her family’s memories were wiped for their protection, she has no control over her new life or her new powers and she is being stalked by a demon intent to claim her soul! Needless to say this is an interesting book and is written so well that everything flows together even from the different viewpoints of the characters.

I have to warn you though that before you read this book, you need to read the first book in the series called Unclaimed. I recommend this book.

The author had reached out to me to read Unclaimed early last year and fell in love with Maddy & MJ's story. It was truly emotional and I love a good supernatural romance of Angels & Demons.

When I was asked to read the Ignited, I read Unclaimed again to refresh my memory but then realized as a good writer as the author truly is, she already explains what happens in the 2nd book to keep you up to date of the previous adventures that took place and continue the series.

MJ is still fighting to protect Maddy from his world and secrets are slowly revealed as more powers to develop through Maddy as well. I cannot wait to continue the story for the next book!

**I received an ARC of this story in exchange for an honest review**
Maddy was dating an angel, MJ. MJ is a protector who has broken a lot of rules, but some he had to keep. MJ told Maddy she was his heart and he would fight before he would let anyone take her.
Maddy had some special powers of her own. The characters were good, especially Maddy, who was overwhelmed with powers she couldn't control and the love she couldn't state and MJ.
The plot was good as was the overall story. It dragged a little bit, but overall a good story. I recommend, although I didn't like the ending.

I grew pretty bored to this book. After reading a third of it I decided to read something else and after that I couldn't really get into it anymore. The book has so much romance and fluff I feel like the action is missing.
In a way I love to fluff. Sometimes. But if there's too much it makes the book feel like it's been badly written. If there had been more action and less fluff this book could have been very good.
At first I even was in love with this book because of all the fluff, but now I'm not feeling it anymore.

Some people could really enjoy this book.
Not me, at least not now.

I received a copy of this book for a fair and honest review. I enjoyed the book but really felt that I was missing something. It was a good storyline but somehow I just wasn't getting it. Since searching for the book on Goodreads I have found that this is the second book in a series and I didn't realise this. I would definitely have preferred to read them in order. I am assuming there is a third book, otherwise there is a lot left unexplained. A good, but not great book.

This is a good sequel. I loved learning more about the characters (especially the bad guys), meeting new characters, and exploring more about the workings of this fantastic realty. The book has great pacing. So much happens that it's hard to believe the story only spans a few days.

The teen angst thing bothers some of the other reviewers, but frankly, you’re dealing with teenagers. That’s what you get. The characters are believable and accurate, especially when you take into account discovering she has special abilities, the self-doubt involved in the discovery of being adopted, and the very real uncertainty of “Is this love?? Can I love properly??” that a surprising number of people actually struggle with. Maybe it doesn’t bother me as much because I don’t usually read YA romance. I was a teen. I didn’t enjoy it or the drama that surrounded those years – especially the “romance” drama, so I avoid books about it even those with a “happily ever after” unless there’s a REALLY good story that surrounds it.

There was fantastic momentum and I loved every page ... right up until the cliff-hanger ending. I don't mind a cliff-hanger that 1) wraps up the action set into motion in that book, bringing that segment of the overall series to a conclusion while 2) leaving you dangling at the start of a new cycle of actions that sets the stage for the next book. This is not one of those cliff-hangers. Ignited has all tremendous build up. You get SO invested in the story as the stage is set and the conflict is presented, and then – Bam!! No resolution. Seriously!?!?! It really upset me. A lot. I cannot understate this. I personally think it’s a bad idea to end a book in mid-arc when the actual confrontation/resolution part of the story is set into motion. I want to take more stars off the rating to show how unhappy I am with this type of cliff-hanger, but that wouldn’t properly reflect all the other elements the author excelled at.

Of course, I want to know what happens. I’ll mostly likely read the next book, but I’ll feel strong-armed into doing it, because I want to finish the story in book 2 that I was denied instead of doing it because I can’t wait for the next installment of this series >:-(

So, enough griping and casting dirty looks at the folks responsible for this inappropriate cliff-hanger. This book is fast-paced, well-written, and has great characters with exciting overall development.... and if you want to read it, wait until the book 3 is available, so you can just continue the story without an ill-timed break.

I received an electronic copy by Wise Ink Creative Publishing and NetGalley, in exchange for an honest review.

As a direct sequel to book 1 Unclaimed, I highly recommend reading Ignited only after reading its predecessor. This book starts immediately after the last one, without any background information to allow the reader to settle into the story. To put it plainly, Ignited will not make much sense without reading Unclaimed first. Maddy is trying to recover from her ordeal at the hands of Justin, a demon whose obsession of her grows during this book. Angel MJ, Maddy's love interest, is trying to help her cope with the situation of the recent past and with her gifts. If you break this book down to its core: strong female lead struggling with self awareness, new love, and the realization that she now has to see the world in a good versus evil framework, the formula for a great YA paranormal read is there. However, Ignited suffers in the execution of those ideas. There are too many characters to keep straight and the switching viewpoints only serve to confuse the reader. This book is not successful as a romance book, nor as a paranormal, because neither genre is strongly represented. Ignited did not hold my interest and I will not be looking for more books in this series.

Okay, I liked this book as much as I liked Unclaimed. I probably read it even faster, as I needed some answers! The story of Maddy and MJ flows easily to this second book in the series. It's almost as if they are one book, which I appreciate. Sometimes you dig into a sequel and you are either inundated with information you already know, or you are completely lost from the start. That doesn't happen here. It is a seamless transition.

Wetzel's writing is still on par. In this book Maddy and MJ are still desperate to be together while at the same time unable to completely trust each other with their secrets. Maddy is trying to learn more about herself and her abilities, and MJ is trying to prevent all out war on earth.

When I got to the end of the book, I was shocked. Not by the story (although there is plenty of tense moments), but because I wasn't ready for it to end! I actually went back a page and then forward and couldn't believe I was staring at the Acknowledgements! I wanted, no, needed to know what happens next! Quite a cliffhanger we are left with. I am sure the 3rd book will be worth the wait, but time will drag on until then.

Another great book by Ms. Wetzel. Please hurry with #3!
