Um, yeah...let's get into it.
Liked:
* I liked that (and i've said it before) the sex was realistic. I hate reading about ppl having 12 orgasms before they have sex and another 5 during. Or is it 5 before and 12 during? I've read it both ways. Makes me tired.
* Michael, the most interesting man in the world. He doesn't romance you/open doors/protect/cater to every whim/cook/clean/massage/think/talk about his feelings/speak other languages/profess his eternal and undying love/plan dates/sweep you off your feet (sometimes literally)/give you the best sex of your life/put up with your ridiculous rebellious streak often...but when he does, he prefers Dos Equis.
Didn't like:
* This story unfolded s-l-o-w-l-y. Oh-em-gee, i started skipping pages just to get to it. I also didn't need all the technical jargon. I'm not interested in the dictated letter to the judge or the visit to potential donors or how they're gonna restructure services! Just acknowledge that the heroine is gonna do it (if it helps move the story along, which it didn't seem to...we know she's competent or she wouldn't be running the place!), and move on.
* The dialogue. Really?!?! No one says they "reside", they say they "live"...and i don't care how "proper" you are. Also didn't like the cheesy Spanish endearments. Dude speaks French, Japanese, Spanish, German, Arabic, and Russian...but the best we get is "mi amor" and "mi corazon"? =\
* I didn't see what was so special about the heroine. As previously stated, Michael is perfect. She's pretty and dresses nicely, but i didn't get a lot of personality from her. I didn't feel the attraction. Hell i'm more interested in getting to know April.
* The heroine. She can't get her head out of her ass and commit to Michael. Riiiight. Her quickie relationship with her ex hubby didn't work out so she wants to take things slow. OK, but i don't understand why she kept snapping at him when she thought he was trying to tell her what to do. That would have made more sense if her ex was controlling.
* We went from "not wanting to commit" to "unprotected sex" rather quickly for my taste! That was irresponsible on both of their parts.
* Liked that the heroine was capable of defending herself, but someone tried to kidnap and/or kill you yesterday (bearing in mind that this someone knows how to find you...let me reiterate, HE KNOWS HOW TO FIND YOUR IGNUT ASS) and this morning you're gonna traipse off to the gym? Alone?? Good times. In all fairness, i dislike the "i can take on the entire world without any help from anyone" attitude in all books, across all genres. I particularly hate that it's almost always a woman who thinks this way and runs off to do something stupid that puts her life and the lives of others in more danger than they were already in. This girl got lucky, the guy only gave up because he heard sirens...and he had a gun. Which brings me to my next point.
* I hate characters who hate guns soooo much they can't stand to be in the same room with a gun, even though (1) whoever's after them has guns and (2) they're with someone who knows how to use said gun. Get over it, when ppl are after you (and not for a damn date or a job), you need a gun. Welcome to Earth, enjoy your stay...try the veal. I don't own a gun, but if someone was after me i'd get one and learn how to use it! And at the very least, i'd alter my daily routine.
I'd give this 2.5 stars but i don't know how. I reserve 1 and 2 star ratings for books that i pretty much hate, and i don't hate this but i don't like it either.
